  1. Wow!! Just .... Wow! Nuke em, that is frickin awesome, congrats. I would be a friend for life if you could tell me what VDI those coins produce! Im guessing maybe a 16 or 19?? I need one of those sovereigns Sooooooo .. bad ?
  2. Found a handful of silvers last week. I was wondering if anyone has been lucky enough to find a gold soverighn yet? Fair enuff if you dont want to discolse that ? But would be interesting to know if they are out there. From what ive researched, the Victorians did seem to have them in their pockets at times, after all, a half sovereign was worth 120 pence, or 10 shillings. Of which ive found loads. If only i could get in my delorean time machine and go exchange a few shillings for a few half sovereigns lol. Or a full sovereign, worth only 8 half crowns, again which ive got a few of. Oh how i'd die if i found a sovereign, Its a bucket-Lister for sure. Cheers! Andy.
  3. Hi Nuke em. Awesome matey! Beats a pension fund that's for sure! Good on ya brother. Andy.
  4. I find American coins stunning. Your doing well there matey, congrats. Andy.
  5. Oh and gold ladies ring 22kt = 16 at depth / and =17 @ 3-4 inches depth
  6. Hi TedinVT. Quote - "Now I'm looking for a high tech way to automate digging targets." Now that would be an interesting thing to see! You mean like a little ASIMO with shovel in hand?? ?
  7. I have realised that know one can rely on VDI numbers alone. But as we know, working together with tone response, we can at least give give ourselves the best possible chance of digging a good target. Tones are very distinct and take time and patience to learn, for example coins are very clean tones which have a unique but subtle signature. Target size is another indicator (Again as we know). This is a list of VDI's tested in soil and at depths i would expect to find certain coins. For example a 1 penny at 3 inches max. A 1919 Penny at around 5 inches. (All depths from my own experience, yours may be different of course). There are lots of disclaimers involved with this experiment. And the following can all effect VDI: 1. Soil type/Wet/dry conditions 2. Depth. 3. Program type, i.e park 1/2 - field 1/2 etc. +other settings. 4. Masked with other targets. 5. Local EMI. Therefore to try and give as accurate data as possible, here were my settings for this test. Park 2 - 5 tones - sensitivity 19 - Recovery speed 4 - Iron bias 0 - and of course ground balances manually and EMI checked. BAD TARGETS: Modern Penny = 24-25 Modern 2 pence = 27-28 5p = 11 Ringpul = 15 1 Pound (out of date) = 20-21 Old Ten Pence = 13 GOOD TARGETS: Small silver Victorian sixpence = 21-22-23 (A nice little unique signature, as it skipped between the 3 VDI's. NICE!!! Large George third sixpence = 26-27-28 (Again a nice signature) 1900 +1800 Penny = 22-23 Half penny = 18-19 Lead bullet (Bad tone) Threepence = 22-23 Two shilling = 15-16 One shilling = 13 Roman lead weight = 16 Roman bronze = 11 These were my results which i will stick (via sticky label) to my detector handle. Would i not dig a target if its on the bad list? Well again together with tone, i may still dig it. Whether or not this is a good thing to do - (the sticker on my detector) , it still gives me an indicator, and that's fun and nice to know, and that's good enough. Happy hunting.
  8. Yeah i found a site where it overlays with google earth, and you just switch it on/off at will. I have also found forts where officially they say they are 500m metres away. A bit conspiratorial - but perhaps they do this to keep people off the land. Check it out guys. https://www.lidarfinder.com/
  9. Hello Sittingelf, good to meet you. Glad your interested! Here is the UK site to give you some idea of its features etc. https://www.lidarfinder.com/ Im hoping you chaps over the pond will have a similar resource.
  10. And so my research led me to LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) in the UK. Its incredible! Some sites are just reworked modern changes, but roman/medieval furrows are unmistakable, so are forts, mounds and village earthworks. Currently im scanning the landscape all around my area (within a 15 mile range at the moment). That's why i'm loving this hobby, because its not all about the cool detectors, the kit, the fun, the challenge and the exercise, but also much more about deep research, which involves a lot of thinking, and true history we can touch. Its got a lot going for it that's for sure! But i'm preaching to the converted i suppose ? The hobby has it all! and LIDAR is just one more tool in the research arsenal. For other noobs like me, give it a try, its an excellent resource. Happy detecting, Andy.
  11. From some research so far: Feel free to add more knowledge, would be appreciated. Factors of items going deeper into earth 1. Worms (LOL) 2. Leaves organic matter build up over time 3. Moles 4. Drainage Is that it?? I know its a noob thing to be obsessed with depth, but i keep wondering how deep those medieval/Roman/or pre-1800 coins/relics are. Thanks.
  12. Hya Nuke. Good to meet you Yeah buddy! I settled with the NDT Ghosts, just got em yesterday evening. I had to buy the very costly "equinox adaptor" at £40.00!!! But it is a quality adaptor, screws into the WM-O8 and of course the ghosts has a lovely clip in socket. They are very nice. The sound is awesome, simply stunning. I tried em on my laptop last night (without adaptor) and i could hear the mic tones, and background noises like i was sitting in the room. Yesterday i found more coinage than i ever have in a day, whether that was luck, or better tones?? Im inclined to think it was better tones. I take it you had to buy the adaptor too then? I assume you use em with the nox? Andy.
  13. Hi Nightforce, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302778200124 Hope he can get you one!
  14. The Nox is bringing much needed happiness to the world ? Nice finds Aurum. Andy.
  15. Howdy GB, Now that is interesting! My life has been full of synchronicities and coincidents, almost as if there is a puppet master ? I wont get into that one .... heheheee!! But that is really cool GB! Do you know at first, i thought it was a roman with that big fat head on it, then i realised, oh nope ... its just fat George. Probably my nicest coin to date that one. But yeah ... defo a very small world ? Hi Happa, good to meet ya buddy, thanks for your kind words, I got it off ebay seller, it was his last one, but if you look around online under molle belts, there are a few options. I like it cus you can add more pouches as you need them. I use one for a water pouch - which i have a tube going straight to my pie hole so i can detect and slurp at the same time. Hhehehe. I have one for my trowel, one for the finds, profind attaches easily, and thats about it really, i would carry a nice colt peacemaker too, but over here we have ninnies in control ? Cheers matey! LOL ... Now youve done it, you'll never get rid of me now ? Cheers Steve, you've got a great friendly forum here, nice to be part of it. thanks. Cheers Matt! Good to meet you bud, Indeed, this machine is bloody AWESOME. Wishing you the very best finds too!!
  16. That is uncanny, this is what Joan Allen sell, for around 40.00 pounds. I only just mentioned this on another thread, and low and behold, i just seen this, LOL. Joan Allen dont have it on their website, but they do have them in stock. Spoke to them today ? EDIT: Joan Allen UK now have them on their website.
  17. Appreciate that info Steve, thank you. Yeah this relates to the compatibility issue of the 3.5mm headphone jack as well I believe. I wish minelab would standardise their ports, because it seems i now have to buy an adaptor for £40.00 from (Joan Allen) if i wish to use with grey Ghosts. I am going to look at these sun rays now, cheers Steve! Andy.
  18. Apologies if im posting a lot, but im really into this hobby. My finds arent stunning by any means, but it does show that this machine is very capable! Its only a matter of time before the treasure is found, hehehehehe. Cheers Peeps! Edit: You may think this is a lot of finds for the amount of time ive been hitting it, but kindly take note, i was informed one location was the spot of an old wishing well. LOL. Andy
  19. Hello there Foreverteachable, Good to meet ya, Some nice finds there matey, I always love the silver ? You raise a good point about the sensitivity on the nox. I was wondering whether lower sens has a negative effect on depth. I try and run it as high as possible, but never seem to get past 20 or 21 without naughty behaviour from her. Anyways, nice pictures, nice finds and long may it continue. Andy.
  20. Hi fellow detectorists, I used the WM-08 for the first time yesterday. Before this i was using 2 methods, the Bluetooth supplied e phones (Very slow lag) and then the wired setup directly into the nox. Trouble was with the wired, i kept getting tangled up, and ripping the phones from my noggin! The WM-08 setup was great, fast, comfortable and defo thew way to go!! And so im looking at getting some new "high quality" and "high performance" Head phones. In the running so far are: Grey Ghost NDT Black Widows And this one intrigued me .... Clear sound Sovereign (sold at detecknicks) Although it makes me wonder, as the company that makes them seemingly based in the netherlands, however another company "C-Scope" seem to sell the same phones, but with their own brand?? Weird, perhaps generic?? If so... where are they made?? China??? HELP!!! lol Bose Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, i did do a search, but couldnt see too much about this. Thanks guys n gals!! Andy.
  21. I was baffled by the waiting lists over the last few months in the UK. A certain UK vendor had them coming in every week, and had them sitting on the shelf most weeks, whilst people were still on waiting lists. No harm in saying it was "Spin a disk metal detectors". I have no affiliation with them, nor do i wish to advertise for them, but in saying that Carl at the store was very helpful, so i can recommend. Dont know if ive broken a forum rule mentioning this, but if so apologies. So i spoke with detecknicks last week, James i think it was, and he said the 6 inch coils would be arriving anytime now, and the 12x15 inch some time around September/October. But yeah it seems that cus people paid upfront, they were indeed locked into the sale to some degree, and perhaps couldn't be bothered with the hassle of cancellation. I got some good advice early on from a great chap - Craig from "Relic hunter wales" off Youtube, whereby he advised this noob (ME) not to pay upfront if i could help it. Good advice Craig! He also mentioned 10% off at detecknicks, when mentioning his Youtube channel, so its all gravy! Anyways I hope everyone pretty much has their machines now, just got to go find the treasure now, Oh and them darn coils!! Common Minelab, pull ye finger out ? Andy.
  22. Hi Buick, Have you used one of a friends, or do you own one? The multi-frequency is the thing i love! Besides, this hole digging is getting me back into some kind of shape ? Andy.
  23. Hi fellow detectorists, Well i got back from my permission about an hour ago. Always feel good after exercise, but feel even better after detecting ? Anyways it was a crazy day, bleeps and chirps on almost every sweep. I kind of got a tad despondent after digging about 10+ holes and finding lead, wire, bolts, door handles, an old ladys lighter etc. They all seemed to reside in the 10-17 VDI range in Field 2. As i carried on, the vdi's kept matching the previous trash, and that made for the despondency. I found myself skipping good signals in that vdi range, and now back at home im kicking myself for not digging them. Especially when on one 16 (i think) i dug up a nice french centime 1969. Not a great dig, but nice to see a shiny coin. So my query is, should we really dig them all, because today i would of tore up the whole lawn with about 100 + holes. Its a dilemma, but im still sat here reminiscing of my digs. Oh and on advice from Steve, im going to ask this with the Brits in mind: What ground balance method do you chaps/chapess's use in the UK on fields please? Auto, manual or ground track? God i love this hobby. All the best peeps! Andy.
