  1. I've got two SDS's and they both act differently. One runs a lot smoother then the other. I've had other guys listen to it that have SDC's to verify. Thought of sending the more frantic one in to minelab but it has found lots of nuggets so I'm just going to live with it for now simply because I don't want to be without. I'd appreciate it if you let me know what minelab says when you get it looked at. Glad you broke the skunk Bado! strick
  2. OK I'll bite. How do you know you have a meteorite? Does it jump to the magnet on your pick? Are they all magnetic? strick
  3. I'm with you on that one. I've treated quite a few dogs and horses bitten by rattle snakes ( another horse yesterday) although rarely fatal it can take weeks to recover. I have no problem "offing" a venomous snake in the vicinity of people and pets. strick
  4. Thanks guys and sorry for the late reply...work and trying to get ready for our Nevada trip has me running around. I only found one 45 slug so it must have been a clean shot lol. I thought of turning in the slug to the police but the cops in my area are lazy and probably would have just thrown it away and no recent crimes that I've heard of. Rick- there are 6 other trees in that park I still need to check out! I'll be checking out some sage brush Thurs-Sun this week! strick
  5. Headed out with the trusty CTX Sat evening for a couple hours to a near by park. Found this under a nice shady tree on the side of a grassy knoll. Still have some cleaning to do but the rocks are low quality. Last time under this tree I found a 45 slug lol strick
  6. Nice work Rick and good on you Lunk. Looking forward to being stuck in a rut soon. strick
  7. Nice work Lunk. One more week to go. strick
  8. Women and old wood saw blades? who would have thought... strick
  9. The back will get better. I've had to crawl several times and thought I needed surgery...in fact the ortho doc said I needed surgery and that was 10 years ago. The more active you stay the better your back will be.... AFTER you heal. Just take it easy for now. We need those informative posts of yours! strick
  10. Yep that's it. And I will take you up on that offer Adam. Thanks a bunch.... strick
  11. Nice work Ray and what a way to break in that new detector! strick
  12. Having it permanently affixed to your pack is a great idea. I've been using the supplied Pro swing harness but have been looking for a small fanny pack that I can attach to the pro swing harness and have not found anything that I like. When I'm done for the day the Wireless module gets clipped to the arm strap on the 7000 so I don't loose it. strick
  13. Hey Adam that's possible. I used to stop at the old post office when it was a store as well years ago. I used to enjoy talking to the guy that ran it. Keep forgetting his name. I think he moved to Montana or Wyoming. Thanks for the leads in that area. I'm thinking I need to make a run up there this Summer with the wife and detectors. The more I look at that country the more I miss it. You live in Gods country. Don't ever leave! strick
  14. It's funny as I've been going up there for 34 years. We miss a season here and there due to work, family, and life in general but mostly because the hunting is not nearly as good as it used to be. In the mid 80's it was unbeatable for bow hunting. Rifle season was hit and miss due to the migratory patters of the deer but we did have some great hunts. Imagine a black tail buck that scores net 158 BC. Another in the 135 range if I remember right. Plus many other smaller 4x4's The old topo maps had long gulch and trail gulch backwards so I still call Long Gulch Trail gulch out of habit. During hunting season we usually bypass the lake and camp over the top into S. Fork head waters so this fall I did not make it down to the lake. I don't think the glacier is there any more. The pictures below were taken in Spring 06 when Lisa and I packed in on one of our first dates. It shows whats left of the glacier back then. Another pic of a nice little 4x4 taken that Fall. We got about an inch of snow opening morning. That beer sure is good after a long back pack trip! I have lots of Trinity pics! strick
  15. I packed my 2300 with me deer hunting this year. We usually go into the Alps from Long Gulch Lake over the top of the ridge and down into South fork Coffee creek. We camp at the head waters of S Fork at about 6500 feet. Never found a piece of gold nor did I get a buck this year. I'm not surprised because my pick was clanking around on my pack were ever I went. But I was more after gold then Deer. You should have seen the look on my buddies face when I pulled out the 2300 from my back pack when we reached our base camp. That was worth the price of the machine alone. I only saw evidence of one digging the whole time I was in that region of the alps and that was close to the truck. Years ago we used to go into the Hayden ridge area directly behind the Callahan store. Wish I was into gold back then. It truly is vast and beautiful country over there. Pic 1 is the top of dead man peak looking east (Note Mt Shasta in the background) Pic 2 is looking south into dead man gulch Pic 3 is looking North down Long Gulch toward the Marble mountains Pic 4 is a bottle of whiskey we left in a hollow log 12 years prior. It was still delicious Strick
  16. Jason, Thanks for taking the time to film that and experiment with the settings. The only thing I need now is the coordinates of that particular nugget ! All kidding aside keep posting so the newbies like me can reduce our learning curve to the bare minimum with this new machine. My favorite part is when your dog heard you get excited and came over to investigate. My little dog (the one in my avatar) goes everywhere with me 24/7 strick
  17. Thanks fellas, This spot is in the lower oak dotted foot hills (between Fresno and Sacramento) but closer to Jackson has lots of old workings from the Chinese. I cant find any info about the size of the gold in area. I guess I'll still keep plugging along. Was going to head up to Plumas county this Friday for the day Weather permitting. It's fun even if they are small I guess. I've been working close to the old workings but it's time to go on a walk about with the powerful ZED. strick
  18. Yea and we all know which one the lady gets strick
  19. Had the day off so I went back up to the foot hills. Second real hunt with the ZED and I'm really liking it. Today I was using Lunk's settings...and it worked! Even on high smoothing I was still able to hear these dinks. Thanks Kieth for sharing your settings. I dug so many deep bullets today. It's so disappointing when you hear that deep solid target and then it comes up a mushroomed bullet. When am I gonna find that big nugget? strick
  20. Nice work! Mountain Lions and nuggets...it don't get any better then that. If it were me out there the lion would have ate my terrier and all I would have found was the tobacco can lol. Seriously that is a nice nugget. I have yet to get anything near that size. strick
  21. My wife loves her AT Gold Thank You Mr Garrett RIP strick
  22. No need for Rye Patch when you have That Patch! nice work Rick! strick
