  1. I did like his video...prolonged suffering?...maybe a tiny bit...you need to put the hours on the machine just as with any other. The 800 popped and farted on tiny objects just like the M-core does..neither were a beginners machine in my opinion. The graph on the M-core may be a little more confusing to those not used to using a detector such as the CTX. The one place where I wanted to use the M-core the most is one of the places where I have had the most annoyances with it. It's a fresh water beach loaded with black sand and bottle caps of all varieties. I'm thinking this will change when we get the small coil cuz sometimes there are multiple targets under the large coil. There has been some talk of wide range of TID's on the M-core...I think this has a lot to do with depth and high soil mineralization. Very deep targets over 10 inches mild soil inches like where @phrunt hunts are probably the reason. I can usually accurately predict targets in the parks that I hunt even though the numbers may vary 2-3 digits so I've not found that to be too much of a problem. I've not picked up a detector in a couple months due to other projects but will get back to it soon...there are two kinds of serious treasure hunters those that have a M-Core and those that are gonna get one...😊

  2. From the NF web site:

    ABS Housing

    Polycarbonate Shaft Mounts

Polycarbonate Triple Sealed Cable Entry Point

    External Gore Breather

    CoreCell Foam

    Litz Wire

    Water Sealed to IP67 Standard

    2 Year Warranty

    Minelab Approved

CoreCell is the best and most expensive foam coring that I know of having bought this product many times myself I know how much it costs...its used in the boating and aircraft industries on high end builds...there are cheaper coring materials you could use but they choose to use the best. I asked the guy from Coiltek (Trevor I think) on this site what they specifically use for coring on their coils and he would not give me a direct answer. There is no substitute for quality.

Setting upper tone breaks where you suggest will not change the fact that clad dimes and copper pennies are reading from 68 to 98 on the 900 depending on what direction the coil approaches them and if they are 3” or deeper.

I remember someone asking me early on if I was able to differentiate a copper cent from dime with the  M-Core and my answer was I did not think so they read bout the same usually in the high 70's to low 80's most of the time where I hunt. Zinc pennies will be in the 60's if they are good condition..I can see your frustration with such a large spread between copper cents and clad dimes. The only thing I don't like about my M-Core is.... I ONLY HAVE ONE COIL FOR IT MINELAB!

That's assuming it is bundle wound, nobody knows as for some strange reason the advertising of coils for the 6000 no longer includes winding types.  We know Coiltek as Trevor said but NF has not said, and Minelab kept it quiet too with only strick and his X-rays showing it up, so maybe if strick buys one at some point we'll find out, performance characteristics is indicating bundle wound with similar traits to the Coilteks.

Simon I have this coil sitting in my shop in plastic bag for a couple weeks now and I promise I will get some x rays of it and the little Coiltek this week...

  5. Gerry That was a fun trip... even snowed a little if I remember right. Lisa was very happy with that chevron nugget. We have not been to Rye patch for a long time. I remember looking at your trailer and thought this might just fit a side by side in it so I found one just like yours lol. We still have it and it makes trips to the Sierras now mostly. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

If  I hunted along side of you with the 900 or lets say a Tesoro could you guarantee that you would out hunt me with the M-core?

Both of us using the same sized coils in a trashy park that neither of us had been to before..that would be fun.. but heres the clicker we hunt for gold only... everything else is considered junk... if neither of us finds gold then it's considered a draw and we both pay for our own lunch..now who buys a plane ticket you or me 😁

disclaimer I've not picked up a detector in about a month and a half so I'll need some practice and my watch may be off a little so don't get mad if I'm a little late.

  7. Couple years go I was hunting a busy park. A young man came up to me in a bit of distress...he was with  big party and they had one of those huge blow up jumpy's for the kids...said he lost his gold chain with a pendant that had his mothers ashes..he had been all over the park and inside the jumpy as well but try as I could I could not locate it for him...felt bad for him and I'm thinking he must have lost it while jumping up and down....the company had already removed the huge blow up jumpy. Got his number and went back several times but no luck.

I look at it this way Strick, New machines always come out claiming to be the best but after a while we find out they are about the same as the previous great detectors. I have not tried the Manticore but I have watched a lot of video's . I know you'll laugh at that statement. That said, my 800 and 900 have located silver dimes at the 13'' plus mark. Thats not to shaby for old detector technology HaHa. As for the price of $1600, Sorry but for most guy's that's just way too much to take a chance on it being WAY better than older models. This inquiring mind wants to know if you  sold your CTX because the manicore is that much better?? It sure is lighter. I'll give the Manticore a thumbs up on the beach because it looks like it has an advantage. I'm not earning a living off of detecting, I do it for fun. Last note I ran my little compadre a few months ago and found a few silvers I missed. I asked myself was it luck or the machine? Honestly I could care less, I'm only in competition with myself.

No laughing here.. still got the CTX probably for the same reasons you have your old compadre. Although I don't use it that often I keep it because its proven and a good back up..Manufacturers come out with new detectors due to advances in technology mostly.....you can call it "hype" or what ever you like.... maybe it's possible there really are advancements made in technology that produce a faster and deeper machine...I noticed this early on with the M-Core...ask yourself was the Nox 800 all hype? is the Deus 2 better then the Deus 1 or was it all hype? I do tend to place some trust in the engineers and keep a somewhat positive out look...take a look at the gold machine's for example. If you have used any of those then you know what I'm talking about...

While I wont speak for "most guys" I do agree detectors are expensive and people should just buy what they can afford and go out and have fun..have you noticed that there seems to be a price cap that some people will place on a detector purchase? These same people have over a dozen different detectors..... they will buy any detector that fits their "price cap"   and then have the gall to bash the $1600 detector because it's out of their personal selected maximum spending cap and then they go out and buy expensive carbon fiber shafts and other accessories....good discussion... I considered the 900 but have since held off but having sold the 800's here I sit with  nice 10x5 coil all dressed up with no place to go..

It is my Experience that an Expanded ID range to 100 scale is a hindrance to idenification of aluminum to gold ratios.

Example: My equinox is AWESOME at locking in tabs where I hunt at 13-14 for 95 %.

My Deus 2 is HORRIBLE at locking in a range of tabs. I run numbers from 49 to 64 for 95%.  This is absolutely unacceptable and makes skipping tabs impossible.

Don't run air tests, they are worthless. Run ID tests on the wet sand. The dynamics of wet sand and black sand will change ID numbers, especially at depth.

Yes I am in some agreement with you in that it seems the Nox was easier...

In the photos above that Jeff posted the targets from 10-17 he mentions then the corresponding targets from 20-34 on the 900..does it separate the gold from pull tabs better? maybe round 32-34 but then there are gold rings that fit in that bracket as well that re not pictured........do you dig every target on the beach...most of the time? I've never detected Mexico beaches just curious.

The Manticore in my opinion is over priced and in dirt preforms the same as cheaper machines. Do not get lost in all the hype of whats the best. You will do well with a 800 or a 900.

Do you own  M Core? Which cheaper machines perform the "same" in your experience? Inquiring minds want to know? 🙂

Can you give an example of why this would be true?

Park hunting and beach hunting are two different worlds entirely. The trash never goes away at the park...it's not subject to winds, tides or the actions of the surf...therefore having the expanded ID range can allow one to make a better "guess" before the dig...note I say "guess" I love park hunting for gold jewelry but it is a tedious and difficult process of constantly bending down on your knees and digging out a target in the turf... then theres Beach hunting 🙂
