Manticore @ The Drained Lake
strick replied to Daniel Tn's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Nice report...better hurry up before they fill that lake back up! π strick -
I have some fresh water beaches and swimming holes where there are 2-3 bottle caps to the scoop at times...This is a big deal for me. My CTX would disk them out OK but it was slow and the black sand killed the depth. I hated the way the 800 sounded and acted when running the f2 at high end which is what I had to do to make it kinda work. The Deus 2 I never really gave a chance (my fault) because I'm not fond of the antenna which turned brown after the first dunk and I don't like that style shaft for water hunting....I bought it for relic hunting anyways..The M-core seems to be doing a good job so far...I tested a bunch of gold rings and none of them read into the bottle cap reject area... strick

Thanks 350 That tree trunk is hard to describe how big it really is...it's hollow on the inside. And it landed perfectly up right? after my photo a guy and his wife stopped to take pictures with him standing on top of it. An interesting thing happened...I was detecting minding my own business and here comes this dude walking toward me with a concerned look carrying his detector (not swinging it) He wanted to talk. So I take off my head phones. He had brand new 800 said he was learning how to use it. I told him that I had one as well. He had zip lock bag with 3 pennies a quarter and a dime that he had found. I asked him where are your headphones as the waves are crashing..I did not bring them he says lol.. So I start going through the menu showing him how to use the functions and I set the detector up the way I would be using it....I could tell he was getting nervous at all the buttons I was pushing lol. I told him how to do a factory reset if he wanted. He thanked me and took off detecting...a few minutes later I find the gold pendant...hmmm..... About 30 minutes go by and here he comes again looking much happier this time...great now he's going to show me a big fat gold ring Im thinking...(he was hunting about 75 yards in front of me) I asked did you find something good? He says he just wanted to thank me again as he was leaving and he said "I don't know what you did to that machine but I was finding stuff left and right after you adjusted it" π a few minutes later I find the nice silver woven mens wedding band...hmmm strick

As mentioned it happens with the nox as well. It's and interesting thing maybe the target is sinking or the orientation is disturbed...I don't think there is a halo because stuff gets moved around on the beach...maybe some "beach expert" can educate us on how this happens... strick

Edited: I did not use the pin point once on the beach...it's funny you ask the question because I've had the machine for over a month and dug many 100's of targets with it and cant remember exactly.....in the beginning I did use the pin point when turf hunting a lot but not much anymore.... from memory the hot spot seems to be just forward of the shaft a bit. strick

800 Choppy And Chatty In Water? Please Help
strick replied to Gary985112's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
You can auto ground balance any time you wish...this is also referred to a ground grab. You can do a ground grad while in tracking as well. How to tell if your detector is out of ground balance...just raise and lower the coil without pushing any of the ground balance buttons...if the machine is making weird sounds like a low/high or the opposite a high/low itβs out of balance. You should check your ground balance frequently..some places will be more frustrating then others as you try to keep the machine in balance. You can actually Hear more targets by lowering your sensitivity if your machine is making too much noise at higher settings. The goal is to have the machine running in a way that is comfortable to your hearing. Some people like to run their machine a little more chattery then others. The equinox is a noise machine to begin with but you should have it figured out soon enough. Test your machine at home by burring some targets to get more familiar with it. Strick -
Equinox 800 Question About Noise While Moving
strick replied to Gary985112's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Tracking for me is usually a last ditch effort when Iβm having to re ground balance every 5 minutes when in manual...I do find myself using it more at the beach when in black sand that changes in density frequently and moving in and out of the salt water. Nothing works well in those conditions so I just throw it in tracking and as long as Iβm finding deep targets itβs working adequately enough for me. Strick -
I had time to make two trips to the beach since our storm's started a few weeks go. You really have to live near the beaches and have the time to take advantage of these opportunities which I don't but at least I got there. Two hunts about 10 days apart. The manticore really shines on the beach. I was using beach General in the deep audio tone. Tried prospecting tone but it was a little too noisy for me....Most of the time I kept the sensitivity at 25 or below if things got to chattery. The beaches here have been stripped clean down to black sand in most places...a lot of the targets are now washed out into the surf. In my limited time I was able to scrape up a few targets and finally broke my gold slump with the manticore with a nice little pendant and probably the ugliest gold ring I have ever found...god only knows how long it has been buried. Most of the targets were not too deep... foot or less. Some were much deeper and many scoops down...The manticore ID's these targets correctly and with a faint whisper but then after the first scoop or two the target may entirely disappear...never fear it's still down there just keep scooping till it's out. Good luck..happy hunting.....and may the good lord save you from digging too much iron with your new Manticore...π

What Would Old Hank Say About The Manticore?
strick replied to George Kinsey's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Thanks for straightening me out Chase I've been guilty of using the term loosely and often have referred to sensitivity/gain as power in the past and dont want to confuse people about what it actually is.... Brad- I don't think Minelab is ever going to tell us what they mean by %50 more power. There is something different about the manticore thats for sure..Had a nice beach hunt with it yesterday and it is a blast to use with it's new deep tone enhancement. strick -
What Would Old Hank Say About The Manticore?
strick replied to George Kinsey's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
It has to do with where you hunt...mild ground cranking up the power will get you some extra depth. Cranking up the power too high in hot ground will get you frustration. Itβs not a one size fits all type of thing. Strick -
There was someone on facebook that posted an image similar to yours. Mine is cleaner then that for sure...but not knowing how they are actually sealed to be made water proof it's hard to say if there is too much silicone or too little on there if you get what I mean? You got 3 years. strick

Manticore Screen Backlight And Programs
strick replied to longbow62's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
A four hour hunt should not drain the battery that much. strick -
I would hunt in general mode try to manual GB the machine if it becomes too unstable than switch to tracking. The coins in #2 and #3 are easily detected by the manticore. Those lower conductors in #1 if deep are going to be tougher for the machine to hit and you may want to try the low conductor program (it works) also I would use the deep audio or prospecting audio. strick

typed in does UPS deliver on MLK day in google "There will be no mail delivery on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. FedEx and UPS will be delivering, however. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will be on a modified service schedule."

How old is the park you are hunting? The clad find is similar to where I hunt. The dirt around here has been turned over many times with re construction over re construction...so in my area I'm mainly looking for lost jewelry the coins are incidental finds...every quarter or dime could be a silver ring...every pull tab, nickel or piece of can slaw could be a gold ring...every zinc penny could be a really big gold ring...we are all a product of our environment each of us have different scenarios but the one thing we have in common is detecting is our therapy...jeez that last part sounds like a pep talk time to stop...nice hunt π strick

Your cracking me up lol ....He probably already went over that spot with the Deus 2 π strick

Nice most the nickels I've dug so far (a lot) have been in the 24-28 range where i'm at. I still have yet to get a true gold ring with the machine and I've been digging everything 10 and up most of the time. Not the M-cores fault just haven't got over one yet. I got a gold ring the first hunt I took the 800 out on.... but not the first target! π strick

Nice work abenson looking forward to your unbiased opinion of the machine at some point. What did the 1.7 gram ring ID at? strick

So The Beach Hunts Start Again
strick replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Well you want to talk Idiot...heres one for you....several years back I was all gun ho to detect after driving 2.5 hours to the beach so I hit the ground running...signals were everywhere...darn ground noise from the recent erosion/black sand I figured so I turned the sensitivity down and re ground balanced.....the machine was still falsing a lot. It was then that I noticed it was every other time I took a step and finally realized that the new rubber boots I had recently bought had steel toes π strick -
Friendly Metal Detecting Forum
strick replied to SeabeeRon's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Nothing else from here as I have not been able to get back there since we last spoke (work and commitments) but might head over there Sat am despite the crappy tides and have a look around the main beach and surrounding areas on that north part of the bay. I'll be in touch if I do. strick -
Not Watching For The Manticore Boat Anymore. ;)

Looking forward to your impressions. strick -
Steve it does not flex with the 11" coil. The diameter is smaller than what was used on the Nox. I don't know what the thickness is but I could measure it and get back. I was saying "some" may think that so maybe the surf guys? I'm careful not to lean on it...I guess we will have to see how it does with the large beach coil. strick
