Silver bars.... gold rings what else would a pirate dream of. strick

Yep it's not deep nails falsing that are a problem but there is some falsing on shallow iron targets that may require the operator to make some adjustments to the machine for a comfortable hunt depending on the ground they are hunting. If you look at the first picture in this thred there are only 2 nails that I dug and one was a roofing nail that would give anything fit. That was in a nail infested area. Heck the first time I took the Deus 2 into the foothills hot dirt it was falsing left and right till I figured out how to correct it. There was the video posted by a youtuber which Is why I started this thred...showing them digging out a 2 foot deep target that ended up being iron and them stating that the machine had a iron falsing problem. If they were paying attention to the iron audio and red line indicator they should have had it figured out easily...We still need more users to get all the quirks figured out but my feeling is that people will slowly gravitate toward it.....after all the Manticore replaces the etrac... strick

That last pic...New Zealand is looking better and better...looks almost tropical! strick -
Never heard of nickel silver. I’ll have to have it looked at. It did not shine up as well as I thought it should after tumbling so I know it’s alloyed with something and appeared home made for sure..Big surf coming later this week so relic hunt may have to wait. Strick

Nice write up abenson....so I understand the lower shaft is different the the nox 800. I got in the habit finally of mating my coils with their own shaft on the 800 as it makes switching coils easier. Are there lower shafts available yet for the 900? Sounds like the physical changes alone are enough to switch out the 800 for the 900 eventually. strick

One last photo shoot cuz I wanted to show how well that belt buckle cleaned up.. pretty sure it's silver...I have seen old silver that looked like garbage but cleaned up nicely before. The little silver earring I'm showing for fun. It's little over a gram and was an honest 7 inches deep...the M-Core sniffed it right out. strick

Nice work. I once found a seated dime in my junk change...dark, discolored and in the roughest shape any seated dime deserves to be in ... you could barely make it out...how it managed to stay in circulation I’ll never know. Strick

So The Beach Hunts Start Again
strick replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Nice assortment this time. Glad your jiving with the M-Core. Your feeling that it hits harder then the Nox and loosing some depth due to EMI I have experienced as well. I hve felt in some places where I can get the machine to run quieter with the noise cancel there is still a depth loss. The M-core hits high conductors better then the Nox... I'm still trying to figure out the mid range stuff...Nice to hear input from another M-Core user as it seems we are scarce group. For a hot minute Cabellas had them in stock yesterday.. strick -
I wish I could help you Fishersari but I have not been able to run the sensitivity nearly that high in the area where I live. I've only had the machine to saltwater beach once and that was my first time using it and found that if I did not turn the sensitivity down when in the beach modes it did chatter from the salt water. The most I could run it was up to 23. We also have lots of black sand here on the west coast beaches. strick

A Summary Of My First Season With The Deus 2
strick replied to Brad Plohman's topic in XP Deus II Forum
I dug a pretty small gold ring with the deus 2 this year and If I remember right it was a 32-34...Notching out to 28 makes good sense to me except maybe miss gold chain..Thanks for giving us your settings. strick -
In the stock settings it falses more than the 800. I have yet to take it to the foothills where the ground is hotter. Maybe this weekend. The only iron I have dug with it are of the rusty bolt with big head variety. Roofing nails will give any detector a fit due to the composition of them. Yesterday i actually dug a iron bolt that hit well all the way around and did not false at all. Thats when I decided I needed to rise the iron volume and raise the upper limit ferrous zone from 9-11. I think most including me have been running in too high sensitivity. The machine is faster than the Nox 800 the target trace easily eliminates bottle caps. If one falls outside the blanked out zone it's easy to tell. I've dug a bunch just to keep proving it to myself. The manticore is going to be a great turf hunter for finding coins in and around trash. I don't know about gold rings yet...have not found one lol...I'm starting to think mine is cursed. The machine like nickels well enough and finds pull tabs in all various stages of decay. So it should find the gold you would think... For me the machine is keeper. I most likely will get rid of my 2 800's....upgrade to a 900, keep the Deus 2 and most likely get rid of the CTX finally after all these years. Or not... strick

I went on another hunt today. A ball field built over a old home site with lots trash can slaw and some deep iron. Started out like I normally do in the general mode noise cancel manual ground balance sensitivity at 24. Recovery at 5. Machine was falsing a lot. I dropped the sensitivity to 20 still doing the same thing. Moved the ferrous limit (top line) to 11. Helped some but it was not till I dropped the sensitivity to 14 and recovery to 6 that it stopped falsing and was what I would call a smooth running machine. I’m not sure how much depth I lost as the coins still hit hard but most were shallow and this park is only about 10 years old...it was finding some deep can slaw still. I also increased the iron volume a little and had a low hum on the threshold. Hunting wide open screen which it what I prefer as I want to hear everything if not too noisy... I’ll have to try these lower sensitive settings at an older park where the coins are much deeper and see how that goes. The machine as it stands right now will require fine tuning for specific sites as it runs differently per site, today I was hunting in sandy loam type soil. Strick

I can’t speak for him but my buddy bought one just for relic hunting in hot dirt here in the Calif foothills. Couple years later he was wanting to sell it I don’t remember the reason..he may still have it. I got to play with it a bit..hit deeper easily over the Nox where we were testing it but I just could not get past the tones, strick

Nah just swing the coil over it...easy enough for me. Small round objects like coins and rings hit more precise then can slaw which I have dug my share of but still do just to make sure 🙂 strick
