I’ve tried the enhanced audio mode and find it too quiet for my ears....I’ll keep revisiting it. Strick

One more thing I will add quickly. I have not found any difficulty judging the size of targets such as tin cans and low conductor pieces of can slaw in the mid teens etc...I think it’s a little deceiving looking at it on videos as compared to in person actually running it. Also the bottle caps are easy to identify... most wont even give a tone when hunting in disk mode just like the ctx....yeah there are a few stragglers that will read just outside that lower limit zone but if it’s not on the center line it’s most likely a junk target. It’s been great on bottle caps when hunting in parks. Even the steel caps covered with foil are not a problem once you have dug a few. We need more users right now.. strick

Table topics is when a bunch of professionals with advanced degrees get in a room and voice their opinions and experiences on certain topics...you can sit for hours discussing something that is totally apparent to some and outer space to others. Someone threw jet fuel on this thred when I wasn't looking lol. I started using the CTX in 2014 and have countless hours on that machine. If one is familiar with the CTX then they will have a shorter learning curve on the Manticore. The Manticore is also related to the Nox 800 and those that have used the 800 will have a shorter learning curve as well. But I feel the machine is closer to a super sensitive CTX than it is to the Nox. That being said it is not a perfect fine tuned machine in most environments as of yet. My feeling is that it could still use some work...I have been posting positive on it since I've had it because it's been working very well for me so far...EXCEPT for today. I hunted two spots..Urban areas with lots of EMI and old dirt with lots of iron and trash...Look at the quarter below with the eagle button and how much it's deteriorated in that soil. I really struggled with the machine today. Even did factory reset. The problem for me today was not deep iron targets but rather lots of falsing on shallow targets. I honestly don't know if there ever is place where you could max out the sensitivity on this machine. The highest I've ever been able to run it was on 26-27 and thats pushing it. It gets too chattery if you run it any higher where I live. This machine is very sensitive to iron and ground conditions. So far I have not had many problems with deep iron it's the shallow falsing that is an annoyance. I have not been running the sensitivity lower than 24 which may be my problem. I manual ground balance frequently. Below is a picture of iron nail/spike with large head. It was close to 12 inches deep. The TT was pegged all the way to the right and read 99 on the VID and gave clear high tone signals 3/4 the way around the target but did give a audible iron grunt with red line...I knew it was iron but dug it anyways just to prove it to myself... i'm out of time...I'll be back...tumbled some finds and a couple surprises. strick

It's hard to go wrong with the Nox...would go with the 900 it would be a good first detector. The Manticore is just out.... the 900 is the offspring of the 800 which is proven detector. strick

Looks like you are training him properly.. strick

Nox 900 Has Dead Horseshoe Button Out Of The Box
strick replied to Chase Goldman's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
I have to say it because no one else has...did you try a factory reset? strick -
Well I was trying to bring up an important point... He was comparing the Deus 2 to the Manticore and showing how the Deus could hit a gold coin between two nails but the Manticore would not....UNTIL he made adjustments to the machine...then it hit the gold coin easily...He was saying that the settings he was using on the Manticore in that test were unusable out in the field because of iron falsing I simply asked the question why is not iron falsing in your test then when the nails out of the ground? It's an interesting topic about VLF machines...He said he did not know...I replied back my answer to him as to what I thought...but it's just what little I know and don't know on the subject. I know it's Christmas and Steve wants us all sitting around the fire with our family 🙂 but the wife the dog and I already opened out gifts and were waiting for my Son and his wife to show up now...your think I'd have better things to do lol. strick

Well Thanks GB thats great Christmas gift...I found that coin several yers ago...Heres another Pic of the same coin better light...(I know you like studying coins) ...it was after my first Rye Patch trip..I have @Gerry in Idaho to thank for putting me on the gold. Merry Christmas strick

I don't think he showed the sides of the nickel that was mated to the silvers. Salt water finds I'm assuming...Yea dry ground preferably with lots of sand is kind to coins it seems. This coin I found about 20 yards from where the three that were mated together at the begging of this thred were found. It was by itself deep... sniffed out with the CTX. There are areas on this site where the coins are toast due to the differences in soil composition. strick

Bringing this back to the top.. I just quoted a couple of you to get some attention as to what can happen when dissimilar metals are in contact over long periods of time. I got to watching some of Carters videos after he posted that latest Manticore vs Deus 2 comparison...In this video he finds a old coin purse with some nickels and quarters inside fast forward to 11:19 strick

Bbs / Fbs / Recovery Speed Questions
strick replied to Digalicious's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Well you caught my attention with that last sentence. You're talking beer caps right? One of the reasons I like the CTX so much was that I was able to disk out bottle caps and still find the tiniest of foil and gold rings of all sizes. So am I fooling myself in thinking I'm not missing gold rings by disking out bottle caps? The Manticore is doing the same for me...tiny foil no problem and I'm not digging any bottle caps to speak of besides those covered with foil and they are easy to tell as they sound off like a bomb going off with the Manticore. strick -
Still a lot of stuff at that old camp...might be worth a camping trip when the weather permits... strick

Manticore Deus 2 Side By Side Hunt Video
strick replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I did put one iron target in my pouch that had a blob on the end of it...sounded good all the way till I dug it..maybe washer is on there or something. quote #2.. so you were just looking a for the red line to determine if you were over an iron target with the audio off ? strick -
A Few More Equinox 900 Tidbits From A Beginner
strick replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
So it looks like the 900 and the M-core will have the same VDI range. This is good if one wants to have both detectors using interchangeably. I cant see myself keeping the 800 and having to re-remember the numbers for given targets. But yea the numbers do jump around a bit. Thanks for the report. strick -

Manticore Deus 2 Side By Side Hunt Video
strick replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
They said the park was full of trash so other non ferrous targets near by could effect the TT. The machine is fast but honestly in some of these trashy areas the 11" coil has no business being there but you have to use what you have. I seriously doubt the iron audio would not alert the user on an iron target at depth...I have not seen that happen yet where I'm detecting. I can only see that happening with nail with a large head oriented perfectly vertical and deep. strick -
Manticore Deus 2 Side By Side Hunt Video
strick replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I just watched it before I logged in here. My take. The coins they are pulling are in the depth that I’ve been seeing. The manticore user is still learning his machine...the guy with the Deus 2 I’m forgetting his name right now....You don’t want to mess with as he’s a real pro with just about any detector he uses...what I’m still not seeing is good hunting technique..the guy with the Manticore does not turn on his targets...watch his feet maybe once or twice in the whole video..I have not dug a iron target that did not give some hint of it being iron prior. One of the better videos I’ve seen yet though... Strick -
I guess you dont hunt salt water beaches? You have to go when the tide is low and that can be whenever..The red light would be a good thing to have for that. I've seen guys tape red plastic over the screen. Don't forget the 44 as it might be a good idea on some of these beaches in the middle of the night lol strick

Nice but it seems it should be out in the open somewhere to get the full effect. I had never heard of these till you posted...nice work! strick

The $500 screen on the Manticore will pay for it's self easily the way I see it. strick

I've been running it at 5-7 and have not noticed much difference but I will pay closer attention to that as I go...Thanks! strick
