Nice work 350..If I used my Deus 2 more often I would get the 13" coil and rig it up with a strait shaft...Yours looks about perfect... A wise man once said "Never Waste A Good Zip Tie" 🙂 strick

Big Clad Haul With A Nice Relic Too
strick replied to UT Dave's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Do a google earth historical imagery search on it and see what the area was...I did a post on here a few years ago where I discovered an old ball field that a modern park was built over..I was hunting the park and started finding some old stuff...got intact old pocket watch and a silver dollar from the 1920's ...Nice work Dave! looks like the small coil is working great for you. strick -
funny you brought this up..a friend of ours just got a job at this place. They make giant batteries that can help run a factory out of carbon blocks..not sure how it all works...or how efficient it is as I have not looked into it. they use solar energy to charge the carbon blocks https://antoraenergy.com/technology strick

Two Big Silver Coins Hunt With Manticore
strick replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Nice shooting Jeff...love the play by play...old parks over here are few and far between...most have been built over...I can think of one park that I can hunt close by...lots of over burden from eucalyptus trees which would be a minor deterrence..the risk of getting mugged slightly probable...but you have inspired me to give it a try as I have not hunted there in some time...thanks for posting as I pay close attention to your endeavors.. strick -

Had the person or persons who designed the Profinds been avid detectorists it might have been a good pinpointer...Mine is still sitting in a box of extra junk I never use...one should not have to look at the pinpointer to turn it on...in doing so you take your eyes off the target zone and loose the target. Kinda like if your gonna pull a pistol out of your holster you don't have time to look for where the trigger is on the hand gun before you shoot...this is simple stuff that I cant believe gets by the engineers... strick

strick replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Nice work 350..those old medallions are fun to find...looks like you have one of the other pieces there next to it in the first photo...It would be worth it to go back and look for the other pieces.... strick- 24 replies

Which flir camera do you have? I used to have a t360 used it in my practice handy little tool but I found its use limited for what I do and eventually sold it...The battery is in that grip and I don't know if it generates much heat..but your hand certainly will so lets experiment....turn on the machine set it down and walk away for 15-20 min and then re take the same pic and show us what you found...I'm sure some of that heat is from the electronics as you can see it travels up into the pod...thanks for posting something different ! strick

The only things I’ll hook up to voltage are iron objects...if your just talking about doing it with out voltage then you may be ok but I’d keep a close eye on it...I ruined a nice Barber Half when I first was experimenting with electrolysis... strick

If I were hunting specifically for a small a gold coin in a sea of nails then the 9" Deus 2...if I were hunting for a small gold ring in a sea of bottle caps the 5x8" M-Core.....that being said if you see me with the M-core 5x8" at that one spot it's because "Im trying something different" lol. I'm no expert with the deus 2 or the M-Core by any means and I've only been on one hunt with the 5x8" ! but I do have a general idea about what works (disclaimer: for me 😊) in different environments... Gotta have more then two detectors 🙂 strick

Exactly. For me it's not really this coil vs that coil...it's more like this machine vs that machine. The iron audio and speed of the D2 is hard to beat for relic hunting in the nails...not to take away from the M-core's speed it moves fast enough...but the target trace on the M-Core is great for parks which are loaded with bottle caps. I don't dig beer caps with M-Core... it's similar to the the CTX...you can disk out the beer caps and still hit small pieces of non ferrous without fear of missing gold. Both have their own place...each for a specific scenario. strick

Can't Find A Backpack I'm Happy With
strick replied to Gold Dozer's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I took a small hydration pack and riveted it to the minelab harness...I don’t like water bladders so just put water bottle inside..has room for snacks pin pointer and other stuff. The xp deus pack is a great pack if looking for something a little bigger. Strick -

M-core M8 Coil Draws Blood On First Hunt
strick replied to strick's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
I didn't even look it’s so rusty. The dark ring has no markings. I’d like to get out again soon thanks 350. -
Man I haven't posted a hunt in a long time...been doing lots of projects and just haven't been going out at all. I was able to secure a M8 coil the other day and that amped me up to go out and see how it performed. This morning I hunted two different basket ball courts in two different parks. It was raining and hardly anyone was out... I got wet and muddy but I had a good hunt and I'm happy about the M8 coil it performs really well. The gold ring is 10k and rang up a solid 31 which is where some pull tabs tid...so dig those tabs! I was hunting in all terrain general sensitivity below 20 most of the time , all tones 5 bin. with disk on most of the time...nice easy digging and back home by 11AM strick

Should I Get Started With This Hobby?
strick replied to streak's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
This and what 350 said "Just get out there" ... this can be the hardest part if you have a demanding job. Will you be able to drop everything and grab your detector when the conditions are right at the beach... Are you willing to sacrifice money that could have been made at work if you are self employed? my boss can be a real prick sometimes when it comes to giving me time off... detecting has long been considered a hobby for old retired grey hair guys lol wait too long and you may be too old to bend over and pick up a target...it's been one of the best hobbies I've ever taken up.. strick
