  1. Nice work Jeff. As you know I jumped on the M-Core early...I had been waiting for a faster and lighter CTX for a long time. Here in the east bay we have mostly modern parks so I'm looking for gold and silver jewelry only.  This post made go back and look at the early threds I started... "a stroll in the park" and 'M-Core in nails" by my third hunt I realized the machine was deeper then the Nox 800 and said so in one of my posts. It was fun going back and re reading those threds.. the iron falsing thing and all the talk about it...

I'm still on the fence about doing the up date as I'm still using the machine as it came out of the box and doing well with it.. I have one fresh water trashy black sand beach on the delta where it gives me fits... seems that it doesn't matter which program I try...the deus 2 is actually easier to use there. I will probably try the up date soon just so I can see if it will work on that particular spot now that I have the small coil. The equinox actually worked great there but you dug a lot of bottle caps. The dealer I got the m8 coil from said he thought the up date was a good thing...

In my opinion machine is a park hunters and salt water beach hunters dream..once you learn how to use it.

What could the CTX have been with a coil like the M8 or the Nel snake or an iron volume control ? Hoping that minelab will give us a better coil selection, that’s what makes a difference in most detectors is the coil selections. Fingers crossed

Minelab makes a 6" round for the CTX and Coiltek makes a 5x10... I have both... so not sure what you are getting at with the comment on the CTX but I do agree it would be nice to have a 6" round for the M-Core as well..

I don't know the failure rate of GPX 6000 coils, but many people have had at least one fail, many have had two or three.

I sent my first 11 round back to them and they replaced it but said that they could not find anything wrong with it...then a few months later came the admission of the speaker interference which most likely was the whole problem after all...back to minelab the machine went...since that fix its a dream machine to run the only problem is I've not picked up the ZED since...

They worked out their 6000 coils fail too much so what better way than to have less warranty returns on them than give people a free Coiltek with their 6000 purchase. 😛

yep people will just use the coil that works best...then the warranty will run out 🙂  nice way to treat your clients Minelab...I'm unlikely ever to use the 3 minelab coils I have for the 6k and was thinking that I should clean out the closet the other day..lol

No, unfortunately my brain is not that powerful. I used the R statistical program to fit a sigmoidal curve using a least squares regression. I use R for work, so I had everything handy.

Thanks for the graph..I used to think the numbers were just doubled for the M-Core say a 15 on the 800 would be a 30 on the m-core but looks like the split starts to happen at around 20 and 10 lines for both machines...I wonder if this divergence was intentional (by the engineers) or is this just the way the physics works out?

Here in the UK as our silver hammered coinage can vary by a massive margin ie silver content, quality of silver and various sizes of the coins and also i guess the same could go for artefacts as well,TID is in my mind a waste of time and audio is far more reliable especially when hammered coinage is concerned,of course if the coinage is a consistent milled coinage then one can rely on the TID and what the screen is telling you.

For me Audio is and always will be king, its far more reliable at depth over a screen and also that very last indicator which is often overlooked is the audio threshold.....on my machines that have screens on i just dont look at them as i use my ears instead of my eyes to make that 'dig/no dig decision' if you rely on just using a screen to make the decision then you could/would leave some desirable targets in the ground.

Yep nothing wrong with that...but doesn't hurt to have more features does it? and what if you are a deaf person?

The good old days when kids were kids and shop teachers were parolees.🤯

I used to go duck hunting before school and show up to school with the ducks and my shotgun in the back of the truck...my wood shop teacher would come out to take a look lol... not any more...

that company has a place in the central valley where they assemble stuff I guess which is our friend works..

  8. Do a google earth historical imagery search on it and see what the area was...I did a post on here a few years ago where I discovered an old ball field that a modern park was built over..I was hunting the park and started finding some old stuff...got intact old pocket watch and a silver dollar from the 1920's ...Nice work Dave! looks like the small coil is working great for you.

Just found this reference to “graphite” in one of Jim Straight’s book on prospecting & detecting,  “…some highly metamorphosed schist containing graphite…can act as electrically conductive material.”  Graphite is carbon. A google check confirmed the electrical conductivity of graphite. After passing some graphite removed from a drafting pencil over a Legend coil sure enough TID 11 (LG24, Park,M1). Iron Pyrite can also occur in schist.

funny you brought this up..a friend of ours just got a job at this place. They make giant batteries that can help run a factory out of carbon blocks..not sure how it all works...or how efficient it is as I have not looked into it. they use solar energy to charge the carbon blocks

  10. Nice shooting Jeff...love the play by play...old parks over here are few and far between...most have been built over...I can think of one park that I can hunt close by...lots of over burden from eucalyptus trees which would be a minor deterrence..the risk of getting mugged slightly probable...but you have inspired me to give it a try as I have not hunted there in some time...thanks for posting as I pay close attention to your endeavors..

  11. Had the person or persons who designed the Profinds been avid detectorists it might have been a good pinpointer...Mine is still sitting in a box of extra junk I never use...one should not have to look at the pinpointer to turn it on...in doing so you take your eyes off the target zone and loose the target. Kinda like if your gonna pull a pistol out of your holster you don't have time to look for where the trigger is on the hand gun before you shoot...this is simple stuff that I cant believe gets by the engineers...
