It doesn't look like you ground balanced the detector yet, or are your gravels 50 50? Curious if the ground balance shifts the TID around too, and how much if so, if you get a chance to look at that later.

May have missed it in the video but did you try the pin point over a bare piece of ground and see if it gives you a tid number? Just curious

  2. Because we are off topic.. my biased opinion....The 2300 was my first real PI that found me lots of little gold nuggets.....I found it very stable in all the places I hunted in the Sierras...but I did find it to be sensitive to EMI and was never really able to run it at max sensitivity...It was also my wife's favorite detector to run and I think this was because it was so easy to run..yep the ergonomics kind sucked  but you should have seen the looks on my buddies faces when I pulled the 2300 out of my back pack one year on a deer hunting trip in the trinity alps...I didn't get a deer that year but sure had fun prospecting in some remote places...I've had 2 of them and ended up selling both once the 6000 got all sorted out...I'm not doubting what you are saying @Jeff McClendon just saying you must have some really bad ground up there or maybe there was a problem with your machine or EMI?

Most of us are still just waiting to get one.  One user who has had one quite a while now and used it quite a bit is @abenson and his reviews have been good.  He's done some videos with it on his channel at Relics & Rings - YouTube

I'll get one.  Someday.  But I think it's a race to be last between me and @strick.

lol....I've hardly been out detecting so I'm not pushing too much...I did finally pre order one a couple weeks ago...but now that I did I wish that I didn't as the place falsely advertised that they expected to have some in by mid Jan and all I've heard since is crickets...so pre ordering can be tricky...some will try to lure you in with a nice big fat worm and see if you bite...no biggie though it comes in when it comes in..... I have other fish to fry rather then detecting right now...

This is probably the most interesting thing I've ever done, and it's great for health.  It is odd that having been in other parts of the world and seeing some great history does not compare to bringing it home. 😎

I can see where it's addictive like gambling without the constant risk of financial ruin unless I get too gear crazy. 🤣 I think I have my detector. I'm hoping some day I'll find something that financially rewards my investment like others I know, apparently those things are a hard win.

Its a great hobby thats for sure..its the only one that actually pays back.  I got a late start as you...think I started back in 2014...Gold nuggets were the main focus and then I got into jewelry and relic hunting....Gear crazy lol I know what you mean...I lost count of how many detectors but been lucky to sell some of them and get some good value back..The gold machines are the most expensive so your lucky there are not many nugget places where you live lol...Keep posting Bob we like looking at your finds...I hope to find a Spanish cob some day so yea its inspiring...that gold coin might show up some day...

I seem to recall reading some comments from you about the Manticore's capabilities in black sand(?) that were pretty encouraging. Since this was only my first real "beach" hunt with the detector, chances are that I still have a lot to learn before I get the optimum performance. Even though I've yet to find my first Manticore gold I felt that I was really close on this hunt and that it won't be long before I can make that claim.

Forgive me if I ramble some...I'm not a big salt water beach hunter due to work and distance to the nearest beaches which are about an hour and a half from me. I've maybe used it 10 times on salt beaches a bunch on fresh water beaches. For the  amounts of black sand I've ran into on the salt beaches I've mentioned above the machine does fine. I like to run it in tracking and will depress the tracking button once in a while while pumping the machine up and down and that will quiet it up if it gets too chattery...or if conditions permit run it in Auto GB and re balance every so often..I am paranoid about all my machines being ground balance as best they can be so I do a GB often with what ever I hunt with and where ever I hunt.

When I mention  the depth compared to my TDI pro there was no formal testing done just an observation  I made and these were different sized coils so I hesitate to mention it. It has been mentioned before on this forum that a good VLF will perform every bit as good as a PI on inert ground and the salt water beaches I've hunted have areas that have mixed areas of black sand....more in some places and less  in other places so again take what I say with a grain of salt.

I have one beach (fresh water with lots of black sand) where the M-Core gives me fits but it is full of trash and you have to use a smaller coil which I do not yet have...when I get that coil I will do much better at that beach. Long story short your gonna love using it at the beach I'm confidant about that... ramble over lol

  6. Deep mode in general or low conductor...swear I was pulling coins out almost as deep as my tdi pro...this was at Pismo last Summer. I was using both machines one one day and the other  the next...

In Santa Cruz last year after the storms I got into a big patch...couple other guys detecting far off were eyeballing for a long time then finally they had to come investigate...at that time nobody else really had a Manticore as there were few out...It is for sure a salt water beach machine in the least of things...

Good point, but how do you find out?

The rightmost ring in my 'junk' photo was a particular surprise because of how attractive it is.  My eye said it would contain precious metal (more than just the gold plating).  I haven't tossed it (or sold at a yard sale) so it still could work out that I've misevaluated it.

Nice work as usual Chuck. That ring reminds me of one I found a long time ago clearly plated but stamped 925 under the guilt.

I've saved it Because I liked it so much. I have seen it worn by one other woman on the check out stand at Lowe's  🙂
