I'll Have Two Scoops, Please! Beach Scoops
strick replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Nice... I'd like to try titanium but have three ss scoops with CF shafts one I don't use any more. I really like my Starve the best as it's light for a ss scoop. I will add one thing if you have habit of placing your scoop over your shoulder while detecting the pointy edges of the Raptor grip can dig into your shoulder which is annoying. Also the bolts want to rust on the one that I have. I prefer this instead. They can be hard to find. Happy B- Day! https://sitoscoop.com/product/motus-t-grip-lift-handle/ strick -
Exactly just like the Nox you hear the the iron or not if you wish. I will add that I have not used the vertical bars (notched) out anything yet as I prefer to dig most targets by how they sound and ID stability. Also I am still using the presets ferrous limits for the most part with some slight adjustments mostly on the top line once in while...there is a lot to learn with this machine and I'm just barely digging into it. I've tried the enhanced audio but found it too quiet (probably a deep target) so quickly switched back to normal now people are saying the enhanced is great so I need to re visit that again. I really like the deep audio but it does not allow you to hunt by tone. I wish that machine would get to you.. strick

I don’t hunt salt water beaches nearly as much as you do. I’ll use the big coil for more coverage although I prefer the 11 inch. My experience with the larger coils in not much more depth. If things are boring then I enjoy using my TDI pro with the clean sweep coil. I have never used that 6 inch coil on a salt water beach. Strick

Your reviews should be in a magazine. Very thorough..I read it the other day on the other forum. You mentioned you thought it was deeper than the CTX. I also read in an old post where you said you would never get rid of your CTX. I don't know if you still have a CTX but I do and have considered selling it but but I'm still on the fence right now. strick

Here Is What I Told A "nosey Karen"

Iron is silent for the most part when you engage the ferrous limits. When hunting in all metal anything in the pre set ferrous zones will give an iron grunt. Does that make sense? From the Manual: FERROUS LIMITS AUDIO Targets detected within the Ferrous Limits grey area will give no target response or ferrous indication In All Metal, targets will give a ferrous tone as defined by the Ferrous Tones setting (page 46), and the Ferrous Indicator will be displayed Targets detected outside of the Ferrous Limits in the white area will give a regular target response as defined by the Target Tones setting (page 44)

Yes it loves nickels and smacks them easily and deeper then the Nox for sure. A lot of the coins I’m finding are on edge and easily detected. The machines frequencies seem to be tuned for coins more so then the Nox 800 was? I’d like to see how it compares to the 900 Nox and if someone who has both will prefer the 900 over the M Core? I just sold one of my 800’s today. I have one more to sell...then may get the 900 just to have...with the coil assortment I have for the 800’s? Or just get rid of all of it. Right now it’s hard to put the M Core down and we are handicapped without the smaller coil. The machine will be a real sniper with that small coil. Minelab hurry up please... strick

Well Mitchell after looking at your finds I think it would be best to switch back to the large coil with the sensitivity adjusted as needed. 🙂 strick

Here Is What I Told A "nosey Karen"
strick replied to George Kinsey's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I was on the beach one day. Guy and his wife are stopped watching me dig a target in the wave wash. He asks me is it legal to do that? I smiled and told him this was the United States of America not Russia. He looked at me and walked on. It goes to show you how people are getting trained that everything is illegal as they take our rights away one after the other. There is one park that I have been confronted in twice by the city employees who work there and I've only been there twice! The first time the guy drives out in his truck onto the grass and tells me I'm not allowed to dig. I tell him I'm not hurting anything and you just left 2" ruts 50 feet long in the field to tell me this? I did not leave he was not happy and that was the end of that. Went back one more time and different guy with leaf blower tries to tell me the same thing...Says he could get fired for not telling me and he has a family to support lol. Well you did your job then I tell him. He did mention that guys with shovels have made a mess. Shovels are a bad look in public park. It will get us all banned. Once had another city worker pull up at a different park and was watching me dig a target. When I got done I walked up to him and told him I was being respectful and not making mess. He said I know I was watching you. Said he has a detector too and likes to detect. We had a good conversation exchanged some info on good locations to hunt and everything was cool. These guys don't like seeing shovels in their parks they have to take care of. I haven't had any Karens yet lol strick -
Here in Calif we dont even have to pay that much..crazy charging by the hour.. strick

I have not dug a coin yet that read 99 and pegged all the way to the right as a very tiny dot on the target trace. This is usually iron wrap around. Often there will be an iron grunt but not always sometimes there will be a faint whisper high tone. I got fooled by a big square nail today and I should have known better. There was no iron grunt. Sometimes just a scrape with the pick will help you in deciphering the target. The machine is trying to tell you what it’s seeing. You gotta get used the language just as with any new machine. People did not come out of their mothers womb knowing what the sounds meant on the XP Deus...they had to dig 100s of targets to learn the machine. Same with the M Core. This falsing thing is a user issue For the most part. Calabash was fooling around again in that video he planted the zinc penny’s in the iron laden ground...did you see how broad his swing was...he never honed in on the target to make it stand out just kept swinging over all the iron on either side of it. I dug a rusty bolt today that had a Stainless washer in the middle of it. The machine heard the washer easily...iron falsing I’m tired of hearing it... people just get a different detector if your worried about it. Strick

Ever Regret Buying A Detector?
strick replied to strick's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I'm going to revise my first thoughts that there was one detector that I regretted buying and traded/sold soon after I bought it and that was the Garrett ATX. I thought the build quality was poor (cheap battery holders) that broke easily if dropped...the cam locks were a tough to operate and easily gummed up. ...I did not like the tones and it was a tank. I also bought my wife a Garrett AT gold..she loved using it with the speaker...there was no volume adjustment on the machine only the headphones so it was always loud s heck...thankfully the speaker broke soon after we bought it and I did not send it in to be repaired. Trying to connect the headphones to the machine was difficult with my fat clumsy fingers...It was about that time when I discovered Minelab's stable of machines and have never looked back. strick -
Deus II Finds Nice 1500's Spanish On Treasure Coast
strick replied to JRJR's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Thats super cool...do you think any other detector could have found it? 🙂 strick -
I look at the TT on every target...It takes no more time to do that then to look at the VID...I don't sit there and study it. I have lots of trash and I find it very helpful along with the way the target sounds to choose to not dig or dig. If you want solid numbers stick with the 800, Ctx or deus 2... All detectors will lie to you. The 800 is one of my favorite detectors. My M-Core will sometimes jump 3-4 digits on deep targets, shallow targets are mostly solid in 1-2 range. I was digging some very deep targets at the beaches that were solid ID 1-2 points. It really depends on the type of ground, the amount of EMI and target orientation. It's not like it's this way or that way. I pay very close attention any time numbers are solid with the manticore or any detector for that matter. For your last question...does anyone know what Minelab is going to do but Minelab? 🙂 strick

When I watched his first video I was thinking this was his best act yet...it’s all an act even though he says he is looking for the truth that is one of his acts as well. Acting for viewers.... I mean no teacher is that ignorant to not do some basic research before slamming minelab like that and mocking the head engineer the way he did...I do give him an A+ for getting minelab to respond to some joe blow on the internet..I haven’t seen that before. And I’ll bet Lawrie is getting a good razzing from his fellow engineers at work about that lightning bolt super hero thingy lol. Strick

Can’t say that I have really...the 6000 was the closest I came to regretting purchasing but it’s problems seem to have been sorted out now and mine ran great on its last couple hunts. There are a few coils I don’t really use that I probably should sell...I have sold some detectors but just because they are just sitting not being used. What say you? Strick
