  1. One thing about these forums is that you can often get a general "feel" how someone is. Paul certainly gives off the "Good Vibes" and though I have not met him yet I hope to someday. Now that I think about it this past summer I've had at least 2-3 people ask me if I have met you yet... Congratulation's Paul! ..... and nice work as usual Steve... strick
  2. Nice nugget. It should clean up well. I haven't eaten in a long time. Congrats on the gpz nugget. Your not going to want to put that thing down now!
  3. My ears prefer the low hum of the threshold usually around 5-10. 18-20 on the sensitivity. I know I've walked past gold...but who hasent ? strick
  4. I guess I'm digging all overload signals from now on lol strick
  5. Spencer is a real nice guy! When I bought my first gold detector from Gerry (2300) he gave me a little tutorial and helped me find gold! Seeing that vid makes me want to jump in the truck and head for Rye patch! strick
  6. I can just see it now.... " Move over kid let me try that thing...." strick
  7. Another thing to consider. El Nino is coming (so they say)......this is an outdoor sport. The MXt and CTX ready for battle. strick
  8. Nice work...the first ones seem like the hardest. Strick
  9. I'm far from a professional when it comes to gold..... If I could figure out their language then I could figure out the country and I'd be on my way... I have a passport that I've only used once but I would be happy to join in on the gunny sack brigade under the excavator as long as Klunker was at the helm. strick
  10. Am I the only one having a hard time with this? giant hand fulls of gold,.... Nuggets that are larger then the palm of your hand ...... using a hatchet to clean a giant gold nugget? And I have trouble finding a tiny speck of a half gram piece after covering hundreds of acres of steep rocky terrain. What gives? Please somebody make me feel better...... strick
  11. Scott looks like the the dogs had fun and that's all that matters. The guy your talking about has tried to help me...he even let me swing his detector for a bit just so I could hear what he was hearing on his settings. Let me know if you figure it out. I think (know) I have passed over more gold then I have dug. strick
  12. She usually gets tired after a while and calls me over to help dig a deep one out. At first I used to get annoyed ...especially if it sounded like trash. Then she would get upset that I was annoyed with having to help her. She threatened to not go any more. I brought up the fact that I bought a expensive trailer just so she would be comfortable. And that I would have been happy sleeping in the back of my truck eating frozen burritos. It did not go well. So now I'm happy to help her dig her deep trash targets. And it's all worth it when I see the look on her face when she finally digs a nugget. She has gotten better at digging and target recovery and I have to say that I enjoy that nice warm trailer and her home cooked meals a lot more then the back of my truck and those frozen burritos. strick
  13. I'd like to see the 2300 in a light version for the wife. Maybe with a slightly bigger coil. strick
  14. And here all this time I thought just Bruce Candy worked for them lol strick
  15. I've come to the conclusion that metal detecting is the perfect medication for people with OCD. Doctors should write a prescription for a metal detector instead of one for Ritalin. The world would be a better place except for the fact that we would have more competition. It's not a game for people that get bored or disgusted easily. Finding gold is not easy. As the saying goes "if it were easy everyone would be doing it" strick
  16. Those little ones add up quick. Nice shooting. I would need a pick with a 10 foot handle as those big rattlers give me the ebiegebies... strick
  17. Nice work Norm... I like that heart shaped nugget upper right. Let us know if the ground thaws out up there....still need to do the update. strick
  18. The chain made a solid beep. But it was shallow. One thing I've noticed with the ctx is that the target trace is very helpful in determining how dense a target is. Anything that shows up in the 12.05-12.22 range and shows some density I dig. Since gold is more dense then aluminum you have a better chance. The little gold wedding band (2.8 grams) in the photo above showed up well on the target trace even though it was about 6 inches deep. There is a program that I really like you can find it at Findmall in the CTX section. It's called "Doc's Ferrous coin" The low tones hit really well with this program. The only problem is that zinc pennies sound like dimes and quarters so you have to watch your display. I've notched out the zinc a little and it helps but I'm still digging a few very corroded zinc pennies below 12.30. Jasong- Like Ivanwho says most people dig the high tones and I don't know that there are all that many serious gold hunters that visit the parks. The little gold pendant above was a weak 12.04 but showed some density so I went ahead and dug it. I sounded just like a lot of small aluminum trash that I dig. It's really a numbers game. The more you dig the more you find. I found a small virgin park today (with a basket ball court) off the beaten path. Already got lots of coins, one silver ring and a few other little trinkets. I was only there an hour and a half. There are so many high tones around the basket ball court that I need to put on my small coil for the next visit....tomorrow strick
  19. More treasures from the local gold fields with my trusty CTX 3030 sniper rifle. You can always tell when a park has been hunted by others..... not that many high tones. But that's ok because none of the gold rang up high. The cross is marked 925 on the back and weighs close to an ounce. The 31 diamonds appear real as I looked at them under a microscope and there are no scratches and lots of glitter. The bottom rock is missing. What I'm not showing is all the trash I dug for these few good finds. How does one get diagnosed for OCD? strick
  20. My well is not dry yet and the golf courses around here are still green so I was going to be selfish and hope for more warm dry weather. But judging from the looks of those pictures I think I'm screwed. And I was just beginning to learn some of that country. Thanks for posting that Scott. strick
  21. The GPZ loves big roots...hot rocks and a wet salty dessert. Reminds me of a lady friend I used to know...It's a beast that takes some getting used to. I have not had a chance to use it in the wet high sierras. strick
  22. I saw an article a while back were some kid did a science experiment on that subject. Cant find it. strick
  23. More hard earned gold from the high Sierras. I'm glad I'm not doing this for money because I would have trouble making the fuel bill. Biggest nugget is 1.5 grams. Lisa got 3 of the five with her 2300. Lots of ground covered for these 5 little nuggets but it was fun and we cant wait to get back to it. Maybe Nevada next time ? depending on how the ferrite ring lands... strick
