  1. I heard we have one at work in our Toolroom, BUT they will not test any rocks for me with it, no matter how many times I beg!  I heard it costs like $40,000+.

I wonder if one of them pistol type laser thermometer things would be worth owning as a prospecting tool vs checking the temp of your coffee? Do hotter parts of the ground have anything to do with potential rock types or mineral deposits I wonder?

  2. I about screamed when I saw you guys using a toothbrush on an OLD silver coin in the video !!!

Major league NO NO .A toothbrush will leave micro fine scratches on a silver or gold coin and RUIN its collectors value.I learnt this the hard way . sold a quarter for 25 bucks to my coin dealer who told me it would have been 50 bucks IF I had not rubbed it to see the date.Rubbing a silver coin also leaves micro scratches on it ( like using sandpaper )which a coin collector will see right away with his loupe. My dealer told me another local guy brought in a 1916 D dime in poor condition BUT he also rubbed it to see the date.Value plunged from $500 to $50......my dealer told me to always look at the edge of a silver coin 1st thing. If the reeding on the edge is sharply defined, pocket the coin in tissue paper and do NOT rub it. soak in olive oil or soapy water at home instead.

  3. I guess I better stay outta the deserts without a local guide then. There are no signposts on a lot of the dirt roads out in Arizona I noticed a few years back.Your truck breaks down on a 110 degree day, 30 miles from town,in the hills...I don't even wanna think about it...at least we don't have that kinda heat to worry about back east BUT we don't have gold patches or much public land to explore either. I will just have to sit back and drool over the hot yellow gold photos you guys post here for now...

  4. I once found a coin spill of Lincoln cents in a school playground under gravel by the swingsets. It sounded exactly like a pipe, a long narrow signal. I dug it anyway cause of the loose gravel just was curious. It was mostly wheat cents. If it had been hard ground, would probably have left it. It musta been a broken coin roll. Sometimes kids bring stuff to school for show and tell ya know...

  5. How can an old man hold a 70 pound nugget in 1 hand? Heck, I can barely lift a 50-60 pound 5 gallon bucket of gravel with 2 hands?

Maybe its a replica made of foam? I heard it was sold to a Las Vegas casino for a million dollars but only a replica was put out on display for security reasons...the stuff that dreams are made of for sure...at least he didn't clean it with a hatchet like them dudes in Africa...here are 5 photos..looks like an old Garrett Master Hunter ADS TR detector...

  6. I got the major parts of the dredge tack welded together today, hope to test float soon, maybe this weekend, sposed to be 55 on Sat.Guess I better attach my pull rope so the river don't take it. I had a lift handle installed at the discharge end, wonder where to put one by the engine? Are side rails helpful like on Keene frames? Where/how to mount tool box / 1 gallon gas can holder?

Current weight with sluice, frame, floats, pump approx 50 pounds, hoses and etc will add another 20-25 perhaps. Sluice detaches via 2 wingnuts and bolts or can be slid up /down frame for more or less angle thanks to the slotted angle irons I used ....will try to get a river photo soon..I don't like pumping water in our local river as it smells like dead fish for some reason...wonder why my 2 photos refuse to open now?
