Hello all Found a really nice 1964 Gillette razor buried about eight inches deep on my parent's land in Cape Breton. I would love to know how it got there since it was well away from any old foundations and such. Maybe it was discarded out a car window some time ago. It is still fully functional so I am having it cleaned and will install the proper handle on it once it arrives.

I looked into getting a one-piece shaft but I realized it would defeat the ability to break the Nox down for transport. I think then that having a super-stiff lower end (where all the lateral forces are) would probably help to reduce or eliminate any shaft wobble. I know my girlfriend appreciates a super-stiff lower end too ?

I recently purchased a Quest Scoopal. I chose it mainly because it has a chisel point on it and it's available with a break-down aluminum handle. It's still being shipped so I haven't been able to field test it yet.

I weighed the two-way systems pretty hard a few months ago and they were my original choice actually. I like the idea of being able to send a quick message from the boonies to say I was ok. If it was twenty years ago (and if they existed then), there was no doubt I would have got one because I was in the deep bush far more often that I am today. Then I thought about paying a monthly subscription for something that I would use infrequently now. There are plans where you can deactivate the device while you're not using it, but then they nail you with an "activation" fee when you want to use it again. I decided that the beacon would be more cost-effective for what I was going to use it for. The beacon's battery is good for five years so I figured the one-time fee to purchase it was a good deal after all.

Good advice actually. My elderly father may join me on one of those trips and I'd hate to think what would happen if I couldn't get word out during an emergency. I think I'm sold then. I can get the ACR ResQLink for $350 from a dealer in Calgary. Not too bad. Edit: Done deal. Peace of mind has no price lol.

Thanks Steve! I was actually thinking of the ACR ResQLink 406 or the Ocean Signal RescueME. The one I purchase has to be coded for Canada. Unfortunately, they are pricey. While I don't put a premium on my life, I just don't know if I can justify the expense for the few times I will be cut off from civilization. Of course, Murphy's law states that's exactly when I would need it.. :D

Hello all. I'm planning to do some serious digging about in Cape Breton next summer and some of the area I'm planning on exploring has no cell phone coverage. I'm wondering if it may be prudent to consider investing in a PLB just in case. I can't help think about that poor guy in the US who had to self-amputate a few years ago. Has anyone purchased one of these units for themselves?

Hello All I wanted to share another case solution. This is a Plano gun case that I purchased from Amazon Canada. Nice case for $100. It took a little time to pick out all of the plugs but at least all of the parts have a place now. The left over plugs will be good for padding other stuff too so I'm saving them for now. Edit: I just realized that there is not much room for headphones but I don't use them and I'll probably go with ear buds if I ever do. Nice. I assume then that this means from the coil to the cuff then? I ask because the picture on his website looks like there is a connector for the coil shaft rod. Thanks!

Thanks! I'll keep looking then. The point about stealth mode is good too. When I receive the case, I'll see about removing the sticker first. Edit: I received my case today and unfortunately, the logo is silkscreened on. I'll be covering it with a sticker after all. The case is pretty awesome though. Once I get the NOX fitted inside, pics will follow.

Hello all I just purchased a hard gun case to transport my Equinox. I would love to cover up the gun company sticker so I don't excite security too much if I fly with the case. Is anyone aware if Minelab makes logo stickers and are they available to us? I couldn't find a vendor on the 'net just now. Thanks in advance!

This is why I'm so excited to get back to Cape Breton again. I've tramped through plenty of back woods in recent years and came across many undisturbed stone foundations, well off the beaten path. While I understand that homesteaders were not wealthy people, the chance to detect in "virgin" ground is pretty awesome. There are old stores and post office foundations on the shores there too that undoubtedly have home old history waiting to be found yet. Fort Ste. Anne (older than Louisbourg), in Englishtown, has never been excavated, who knows what's in the ground in that area? Baleine is "undetected" ground too as far as I know.
