With the GMT 24k and the QED would of helped a lot but they needed a good VLF and ditch the MXS because of it's past history plus the fact it looks like a Chinese knock off,

The VX3 would of made a good MXT Mk 2 if it had of had manual adjustments instead of pre sets and given it the MXT's Tracking system, To this Day the MXT's tracking system is a force to be reckoned with,  with these 3 machines whites would of had the machines to retain market sales but because they would not listen to those of us who knew over the MXS issues until after the damage was done Whites signed their own death warrant,

And all of their machines that have come out in the past 4 or 5 years have been built with a total lack of pride and inspiration or resemblance to what people were asking for and as sad as it is they deserve every thing that happens.

LiPo rechargeable battery, and USB up-gradable alone could have done wonders. (Also free scuff covers. Can't expect people to buy Cadillac parts after buying a Jetta.)

This site is like an encyclopedia of detecting information, Facebook can never match that.  If I have a query or want to know about a  detector or how to do something I google it and more often than not the search result turns up DP forum with a bunch of useful information on my query.  Social media doesn't work that way, I'd never even think to use Facebook or another of those new nosy websites to learn something.  I call them nosy as they seem to be more about seeing what people are doing than they are about information.  "Oh I went out for dinner, here is a photo of my meal, and the waitress and the table we sat at, and so on and so on". I don't care about that stuff.

I have seen so many use FB as their own personal diary. It’s irritating. Anyway it could have potential with the right layout and rules, I suppose. But there’s too many ways for persona non grata’s to get your information.

  3. Facebook seems to be made up of 60% Voyeurs, spies, gossipers, vanity, trouble starters, keyboard warriors, and keep-up with the Jones' types. There's a bunch of good to it, but a lot of unnecessary BS. I mainly use it to keep in contact with family myself.

I've thought about getting the machine for the same reason - I do a lot of travel and there have been so many "I wish I had a detector right now" occasions but I hesitate letting a high dollar machine bump around in the truck as break ins aren't exactly an infrequent thing here in California.

AUPine, I understand. I grew up in Modesto, CA area. Definitely have crazies down there! But, out of the all the places that I have lived, Idaho was the worst for break ins, from personal experience. And now from Covid-19, break ins have doubled here in Oregon.

  5. I knocked the Idea around to find a Tesoro Silver Sabre or Eldorado, some thing in the 10-12khz range, so I could have something not too expensive to throw in the trunk, just in case. And if it gets stolen somehow I'm not out the price of an Equinox 800. After researching, I purchased a used Simplex+. I think it will fill the bill nicely!

    I asked Notka/Makro if there was more selection on coils available. I got an email back;

    Dear Randy,

Thanks for showing interest in our product.

Simplex compatible only with SP28 Search coil (11''). In the near future, we are planning to launch more coils for Simplex.

Hopefully, the product will be added to the accessories soon.

    Best regards!

Both very steeped in Roman history,as the romans lived in the UK for 400 odd years those 2 areas that you have mentioned would be considered today prime hunting ground. Its a pity you could not turn the clock back and of hunted the area with a modern day detector.

But alas time stops for no man,but at least you did live in the area. Its nice to go back down good old 'memory lane' and think of some of the happy or possibly unhappy times. Thanks for sharing some of your interesting past must admit i always find those types of things very interesting.

I bought my first detector there. It was an old beat frequency oscillator type.🤣

I found a few old schillings and large one pence coins.

Suffolk area is very steeped in history, and i best you had been into detecting back then, without giving specific town location i guess to give you some idea i am about 25 miles north of Roman Londinium or London as its commonly known as 🙂

From my house i can see the famous great North Road that was one of the main roman roads going from London up North, steeped in history from before Bronze Age right upto modern milled coinage.Must admit we are spoilt and if i am honest we take it for granted our history going back many thousands of years and very or almost no bottle tops 🙂 I can walk just a very small distance from my house and we have all sorts of history ie roman, saxon, celtic, georgian and modern day Victorian.

Rick, I lived in Ipswitch (Chantry Estates), and Bury St. Edmonds.

Sad to see a couple older forums closing. The excuse tends to be social media but this forums rapid growth says there is more to it than that. In any case, MyTreasureSpot is closing by the end of the month.

And Treasure Depot sometime in June.

Some of those other forums on the net seem to bicker a lot and should shut down.

That is Sven1 website and is a forum member infact he posted just 1 post above you, thats a superb source of information on not only older classic detectors going back decades but also new ones as well, and of course his detecting DIY protects which are also very interesting.

RickUK, What part of UK are you in? I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge, Suffolk. 80 miles NE of London in 1977-1980. I left just before the Rhendlesham Forest incident with UFO's. I used to walk my dog through that forest.

Yes the frame is removable.  If you take the frame off it makes it more like an assault pack.  I liked that medium ruck when I had one in the Army.  There have been issues with the full sized polymer MOLLE frame but I never heard of any with that one.

Thanks. Hopefully I’ll have some shoulder room left to carry my 30-30 Winchester 94.

Any pack will do. If you are in good shape and can carry the weight, a strongly made, heavier backpack would be optimal, make a GoRuck, Hazard 4, or even some of the Maxpedition packs. But if you are not travelling far on foot or don't want to deal with all that weight, a lighter pack would be the way to go, just remember they are liable to wear out faster.

A lot will depend on what you plan to carry in it. Standard gold pans of 14" will have a problem fitting inside and will have to be strapped or otherwise attached to the outside. If you want a pan that fits in the pack, you are probably looking at a 10" pan.

Don't forget room for your tools and lunch!

    Hope that helped a little.

    Thanks for the reply!

I picked up an Army Molle II Rucksack, padded shoulder and waist belt. Several compartments inside, a light polymer removable, (I think), frame.

Looks good! I did  mine with the same layout, but added a charger port at the end away from the original contacts, and added a battery management board in the center, and hot melted the batteries in place. I just remove the pack to recharge, plugging the charger into it, and install my backup while the dead one is recharging. There's enough room for all that in the case, using the thin cover. Lots of wires though...LOL.  You did a nice, clean job on yours. You'll like that added voltage.

    Jim

Does the battery management board put a limit on the output voltage or just for charging purposes?
