Here are my best finds from my last two trips with my new Equinox 800. The site is an old plantation that has been under continual cultivation since the 1830's. All detecting took place in plowed fields with over 180 years of accumulated nails, iron farm implements, and assorted trash. Running the 800 with no discrimination sounds like machine gun fire due to the massive amounts of nails and other iron (I wasn't searching this way though!). I was running the 800 mostly in Field 1 and occasionally in Field 2. Field 1 was a touch quieter. I found 6 Tax Tokens, a V nickel, a buff, and one Jefferson nickel; 5 pennies including one IH; one merc and one 1876 Carson City seated liberty dime. I was very excited about the CC dime since this is a Mississippi site and I have never found one before. Unfortunately both dimes have plow marks. This is not uncommon considering the amount of cultivation. Additional finds included a nice flat button, bridle boss, several brass rivets, heel plate, and other whatzits. The smaller rivet was fairly deep. Considering the amount of trash I was very impressed with the 800.

Civil War Buttons - Field 1 Or Field 2?
groundscanner replied to groundscanner's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
I am hoping that the weather will be nice after Christmas so that I can hit some of my more productive sites. I can't wait for deer season to end so that I can get back in the woods and hunt a couple of civil war camps sites. Currently I am restrict to hunting open fields with sites that are full of trash. I am really looking forward to seeing what the 800 will do on a camp site with little or no trash in both park and field 2! -

Thanks for posting your finds!! It really has me cranked up to hit my sites. Unfortunately rain and the holidays will prevent me from going for several days. -

Thanks CG!! Your info is very helpful! I used the 800 for the second time today. I found one clad quarter and several pennies in heavy trash. I also found an eagle button, a Indian head penny, and a cartridge box finial. These items were away from the trashy area. -
I am curious to know which mode the relic hunters prefer for finding buttons and why. Field 1or 2? Thanks

My New Equinox 800 Arrived!!
groundscanner replied to groundscanner's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Well here are the results of today's hunt. I was running the 800 in park 1. I found one nice eagle button. One small button (WWI or WWII). And what appears to be a cuff link with a touch of gold wash still visible. I also found a brass plumb bob and part of a spoon. I also found the usual assortment of lead and brass items. My son was using his AT Pro found a 1964 silver quarter. I was very impressed by the 800!! The site was filled with nails and assorted large iron trash but ran very quiet. The cuff link had half of a square nail in the same hole. I also dug a dime size piece of beer can at 10+ inches. I just knew that I was digging a large piece of iron. I was quite surprised!! -

I am going Tuesday to a plantation site where I found an eagle button and military band button last week. Found these with my AT Pro using the smaller coil. Can't wait to go back over the site with my equinox 800! -

My New Equinox 800 Arrived!!

I was going to head to the farm yesterday but it poured there. So I ended up going to my brother 's to show it off. Heading to the farm tomorrow and will play in the mud.? -
That would be the perfect size for my sites!
-
I hunt mostly in plowed fields with old plantation sites. These sites are full of nails and iron. While the 6 inch coil would be great an 8" coil would be a good midsize solution.

Has there been any talk of an eight or nine inch coil for the nox in the future?
