  1. Terry, Yep, I'm Retired US Air Force! You know during my GP/GPX days, I had to have two of every coil, my Wife had to have the same as me...lol. I've owned them all except the new ones that are out today. When, it all came down to the most used GPX coil was the stock 11" Mono. Nowadays, your stuck with the coil that's on the end of the stick with a SDC and GPZ and they are good. GPZ, isn't much for pin pointing dinks in your pile, but they end up in the poke! Rick
  2. Roughwater, This time of the year, it's sketchy at best! First two days very windy and spitting some rain. But my hunting party had no skunks and seen some new coils leave dirty with smiles! Ms Peg, You had a great trip, yourself...with some of the same weather we enjoyed too, lol Rick
  3. Robin and I, had another fun filled hunt at Rye Patch! I've often been asked if I'd like to find a single one ounce nugget or dozens to equal and ounce. Well, I like big nuggets just like the next prospector! But, I'd rather find dozens of nuggets to equal that ouncer...more smiles is my reply! There are countless great placers in our Western States. If your close to one, spend the time to learn it. It will start to give you its secrets and your poke will grow to that one ounce mark, one nugget at a time! Enjoy, this hobby of ours, picked up crystals to share and watch out for then buzz tails, we got one on this trip! Until our next hunt LuckyLundy
  4. That's a nice haul of goodies! Keep swinging Rick
  5. Paul, Glad your back home safe and sound! Plus, it finally sounds like your getting dialed in with your GPZ for some Nevada nuggets. See ya soon, in the goldfields Rick & Robin
  6. Tortuga Every goldfield will have rocks (minerals) to look for to determine likely ground to swing your coil on. One rock that is on that list is Quartz. Rye Patch, is a known Rockhound spot for Quartz Crystals and we just pick them up as we watch our coil swing...I always leave a few towards the end of the day...lol Rick
  7. Gambler, LoveLock, NV is the closest Hotels and its around 40 miles from goldfields of Rye Patch, NV. The Rye Patch Reservior Recreation Area charges a daily fee to camp. But, there is plenty of free camping on BLM. LuckyLundy
  8. Paul, keep swinging, your getting close to the end of your trip! Rick
  9. My Wife Robin and I, spent several days at Rye Patch at the end March and Beginning of April with some horrific weather that kept us busy at the casinos for two days and then fighting the wet ground noise after the snowmelt. We ended up with a 1/4 ounce of hard earned nuggets, but discussed we need to find some new spots, which I agreed. Well the weather looked great, so I loaded up my truck and headed out on 15 Apr and back home on the 18 Apr. This trip was getting back to the basics as I know them, as to finding productive ground. Sleep in the back of my Mega Cab Dodge, swings my coil for as long as I could stand it, eating cold fried chicken and a treat myself to hot coffee in the morning...I try to keep it simple...lol. I was joined by a couple of other prospecting Buddy's that stayed in town. They arrived to my spot by the time I washed down plenty of hot coffee to fight the morning chill of the high desert. We swung our coils low and slow for miles and ran into 3 small patches, that we can expand and piggy back off of for the next hunt(s)! I'm happy to be home where I can fully stretch out for a good nights sleep...getting old, for the Back to Basics hunt. But they can pay off in the long run. Below, is Joe from Colorado (Colorado Joe) SDC 2300 and my GPZ 7000 on the end of the first days hunt and then my end of trip poke, which just got over 1/4 ounce. I'm recharging for the next trip and more good times with our friends. Until the next hunt! Rick
  10. Is bigger better? It will cover more dirt if you have the open space to swing a big coil! Will it have the sensitivity of the 14" for the run of the mill nuggets? You'll have to know your dirt if it holds large deep nuggets. The GPZ, is awesome with out of the box stock coil...I still have 8 different GPX coils and don't even own one...lol. Seeing this coil in the field running against the stock 14" coil will tell me if its worth a few nuggets out of my poke to purchase it! Until then, keep swing'n Below, is Robin and my last hunt at Rye Patch Rick
  11. Paul, if you read between the lines, we do tell some secrets to fill your poke! Rick
  12. Fred, If that turtle was following you, your correctly swinging the GPZ in the Q. Find a fat one! Rick
  13. Many of you know my Birthday is on St Patrick's Day! I usually have a Birthday hunt, but this day I'm going to be busy and had my hunt a day early. I wasn't having much luck with the extra wet soil and it seemed the worms wanted to dry out a little in the morning sun. Well I tossed one on my coil for a ride to some dryer ground. It didn't take long before I had a bite and out pops a dink, lol. I took a picture of my lucky worm and dug up three more for the poke, before I headed back to my truck. Well now you know what I use for bait...but not how I hold my mouth! Happy St Patty's Day, and have a beer and my your poke be full. Until the next hunt LuckyLundy
  14. Being on the cutting edge of technology will draw blood from your poke! I swung VLF's for years before I bought a GP Extreme, it ran circles around my MXT, just as the GPX 4000 model was coming out. Didn't take me long before I upgraded to a 4000, as the GPX 4500 was released...I never upgraded my 4000 to the newer GPX's as I didn't see no hugh leap in technology between then. When the SDC 2300 can out, I was all over that after I witnessed its magic in a hunted out hydraulic. This machine (SDC 2300) is just simply awesome! Yes, I have a GPZ 7000 also, and I will say the best machine I've swung next to the SDC! Now, I still own a couple GB2's and will never get rid of them, it's all about kHz to me. Each, detector has its place and each detectorist poke is only so big for the current technology available. Make the most out of what you swing and do your Due Diligence before you take your cap off you poke bottle and enter the bloody edge of technology! Happy hunting is all its really about...until the next hunt! LuckyLundy
  15. Lunk, Great shooting! Love that sound of them deep sweet targets and a missed section of and old patch. Stay where your at, we just got a ton of rain up this way. LuckyLundy
  16. Californiagold, I have a many scars from beating my way into a manzanita patch...the Eye instead of Rye is and Eye catcher! Today, I have to finish unloading my truck and such Rick
  17. Peg, it's open country out there, follow those ruts! Every nugget I find is for sale, if I ever post something you like drop me a PM. Rick
  18. Four of us loaded up and hit the much drier dirt at Rye Patch for a 4 day hunt! Our last trip was mid January to this area and it was the worse conditions with snow and mud throughout the goldfields. This trip had much better soil conditions, as I followed my month old truck ruts to my hunting spots. Sure, the soil was still moist and far from prime hunting in my preferred dry soil settings on my GPZ...but, my wet settings worked fine for me on this hunt and I just missed my 1/4 oz goal. Until the next hunt, LuckyLundy
  19. Chasing gold is so much fun for me! Sometimes, I have so much fun hunting it with no luck my fun meter gets pegged out and I call it a day, with a skunk in tow. Today, was a Funner day with no skunks for our hunting party. Here's one I pulled out that hit the scale at 2.53 dwts...enjoying the Daytona 500 and a couple racks of ribs in the smoker! Until the next hunt LuckyLundy
  20. Peg, Hey so glad, you scored some good on you hunt! You just never know who you'll run into out in the goldfields. I know you hunt hard for your gold and you earn them. See ya soon Rick
  21. Good shooting Buddy! Still a little wet and chilly at Rye Patch rick
  22. Norm, Checkout some of them unfenced deep mine shafts, turtle death traps! Should be a nugget or two to detect close by. Rick
  23. Sweet nugget, Brother Prospector! I'm still stuck with the dinks. You keep ridge running Rick
  24. Klunker, Chilly in your neck of the woods, them Big Foots are down in the Flat Lands now! Rick
