  1. Chuck, Now your talking! The 2300, is fun and very capable...but, that bigger coil on the GPZ make the 2300 to take the back seat. Rick
  2. Spencer, There's plenty of nuggets to dig there! Just a very slow coil swing to make them give you a little bark to your ears. LuckyLundy
  3. Art, I always leave a few! To many bushes out there. Now Rudy finds the Big ones and doesn't bother with the dinks...lol Hope to see ya soon, Rick
  4. Steve, no Quartz...it's the cliche stuck in the Cheverons! Strick, Robin couldn't get them in her hands either...GB2 was the only ticket for these little guys! Better hunt that high country before it gets snowed in...just drop me a line we are only a couple hours to that area. Scott, those where some awesome Rib Eyes! Hope you yanked a Chevron out of the dirt. Rick
  5. We had a great club outing at Rye Patch, NV. I tell you the heat was on, fighting lite hangovers, extra full stomachs from the great foods and the open vastness of Rye Patch to find a nugget. Robin & I, finally got to meet "Doc" after years of phone conversations and many other new friends. Well enough of the mushy stuff...the hunt was fun and we all found some color. I've said it before and I will say it again! The SDC 2300 will put up a fantastic fight against his bigger brother the GPZ 7000. But my choice is the GPZ and my Wife Robin's is the SDC, the best of both worlds. I did a couple of test with both detectors. One of my tones with the GPZ is a guaranteed sound of a nugget. This was a hardly audible one but good enough to call Robin over with her SDC for a listen. Well she couldn't hear it, I had to kick the dirt down a couple of inches before she heard it and on the GPZ it was now a solid nugget tone. Now, I didn't reverse this test with the detectors. But in one tight spot, another partner pulled 5 nuggets out with his SDC and swiping it very slow with my GPZ, I could hear little nugget tones but could not get them in my hand...got tired of chasing them around. I told another fellow to hit that spot with his GoldBug 2 and he ended up with a smile on his face! Bottom line is, learn your detector they all will find what your looking for...I hunt for gold and here is our hunting parties pokes. Until the next hunt LuckyLundy
  6. It's been the Summer of spending Pokes! New carpet through out the house, new flooring in the downstairs bathroom with a new fancy Toliet. Now tackling, my moved out college Daughters bathroom! Took out the tub and replacing it with a shower, then some new flooring & New toilet. This is no hobby of mine, this keeps me from my real hobby...I need a new patch of gold, running out of cold beers in the garage frig! Rick
  7. Strick, That GPZ, is the ticket! It's hard to put that SDC down cause it's so much fun. But for the big meal the GPZ is the Chefs choice. Looking forward to seeing that nugget in person. Rick & Robin
  8. I'm sure the current SDC can be made with a much better user design. Vast majority of the time (99.9%) I don't need a heavy waterproof metal detector. The SDC, should be a little heavier than a GB2 and easy to swing...I hope ML is working on the Dry Land Base Model SDC for the 99% of us that use it on dry land...don't care about a bigger coil. It finds plenty of gold with current 8" coil. Rick
  9. Calmark, For them tough spots or shallow bedrock, I use my Wife's 2300...if I can get it out of her Paws! Rick
  10. Dan, is a great guy and I look forward to something besides cold Sandwhiches from my cooler...lol Rick
  11. The SDC 2300, is a fantastic detector and I lost count of the nuggets I've found with it. I sold my 2300 and upgraded to the Big Brother GPZ 7000. What I noticed with the GPZ, it finds the same nuggets...but deeper and it has a bigger coil to cover some ground with. Now, a bunch in our group still swing the 2300 and I don't push the 7000 advantage on them. I know the 2300 can put up a mighty good fight with its Big Brother 7000. This mornings hunt was one of them days, no skunks just smiling faces! Until the next hunt. LuckyLundy
  12. Do not quit your day job for this hobby! I like a can of baked beans as well as the next guy, as long as them beans are sharing the plate with a juicy Ribeye...lol. One great hobby we have and yes Stamp collecting is easier, until the next hunt. LuckyLundy
  13. My old muscles still are recouping at home. This hill side was one that you had use your pick to cut foot holds as you worked your line. Then you had to dig a hole below your target so it wouldn't slide down the hill to the old patch...where have all the easy patches gone to...lol Rick
  14. Four members of our group met up for some hot August gold hunting in some rugged country. SDC 2300, was the choosen nugget Slayer vs our heavy GPZ for the hike up the steep hill sides that we needed to scale with the use of our hands to reach the exposed Acient channels of the hill sides. Plenty of nuggets, but to steep of and angle to keep your feet under you and swing a coil without sliding down to the bottom of the hill and working you way back to the pay zone. Tuff earned nuggets, dirty tired prospectors and some cold beers at camp...perfect hunt! Until the next hunt LuckyLundy
  15. I don't have one! Do I want one? Does it work better than my lucky poke bottle! Rick
  16. Norm, Hey great trip you had, to beat the skunk! I too, had some maintenance for a couple weeks at my house. Except my maintenance cost me several ounces out of the poke with new carpets, tile and a hot tub. All good now and back in action! You keep swinging and see ya in the woods...until the next hunt. Rick
  17. I haven't posted a nugget in a while...don't get me wrong I'm out 4 to 5 days a week and having a blast at this hobby! Today, I felt like a hike and some patch hunting. So I, tightened my boot laces and loaded my pack up with water. Well as you know not every patch hunt will end up in a new patch. But you can mark some ravines and saddles off your to detect list. Lucky for me, on the way back to the truck I was able to swing through and old patch. Now just like the GPX's the GPZ coil needs to inch along when swinging over some hard it dirt. Your targets may not even make a squeak, so listen for a nosiey spot that won't balance out and bust that dirt a inch or two for enhancing the possible target! Well this nosiey spot was a good one, at 10" deep and past the trash layer I was starting to rise and eye brow and the target was screaming through my Black Widows. I had to dig out 5 or more inches and the target was overloading and not feeling like making my hole wider to find the exact spot to dig, I pulled out my pin pointer. It's a great tool and has aided me in numerous deep target locations. The pinpointer was telling me, I was on target, but was a couple more inches down. So, I cut out some more dirt and then used the pin pointer again...this time it nearly vibrated out of my hand. I fingered out a little dirt and seen a glint of gold. At least 17" deep the 1.45 dwt'er was in the poke and I headed home for some lunch...until the next hunt LuckyLundy
  18. Rye Patch and surrounding area is tough! Don't give up there's gold there and I'm sure a small patch or two to fill your poke up in a hurry. Rick
  19. Condor, I always leave gold to find for the next trip! Some steep country in them woods. Keep swinging and learning your new GPZ. Rick
  20. Scott, Hey great shooting and putting your boots and coil to the ground! Due Diligence, does payoff...WTG Rick
  21. There's good on that island and a few UXO's...have fun! Rick
  22. Steve, I read your Garret Pinpointer article a couple days after I lost my Minelab Pinpointer somewhere in Northern Nevada's goldfields! I recently, received a new one for them pesky deep GPZ targets. The new Garret has the lanyard loop, but Minelab Pinpointer does not...I hope my tape job holds this one in the holder...I haven't heard of anyone loosing the holder, but I do have and extra one just in case...lol Rick
