  1. Oh, another thing about the RZR 570!  Seems funny being the smallest of the models that it has the largest back storage of them!  Motor is in rear and not under you so you can have a regular conversation without being drowned out with engine noise!  Cover all open spaces under the seats with good duct tape to block dust (at least I think it helps 😂)

If you get back out in the next couple days look for a silver jeep with black cargo pod. Plugging away for those elusive nuts. BTW, yesterday was crowded for Rye Patch. 5 or six other rigs scattered around.  Mike

I left yesterday mid day!  I did pass a Jeep closely following another vehicle on the main dirt road as I was heading to the Damn Dam!  Good luck

Glen being in CO do you find it has enough power?  I really wanted to get a 570 but all my friends are saying I need to get some thing bigger engine wise like the 800. Or maybe it’s the 900 now I’m not sure. I thought that the 570 would do just as fine for dinking around and exploring. I’m not into sport/racing or going fast to tear shit up. I just don’t want to have two large adults in the machine not make it to the top of the hill LOL.

The 570, is small two large guys fit nicely or Wife and two small Dogs.  I have mine with and aftermarket Rack on the rear for added storage!  I have my gun rack on the Racks Bars with hold my 7000 with a death grip.  I can set another detector between the Rack and the top roll cage...of course must have cooler.  Tusk Storage bags inside keeps dust off things that don’t need to get dusty (TP).  One of the most important things on any Side by Side is maintenance and service.  One thing Polaris has is easy access to change your Drive Belt.  I have other Buddies with different brands and to change a bad belt in the field is a major deal.  The shocks on the 570 make it ride like a tank...that’s my next upgrade.

How do you find the RZR for prospecting?

I know there is a premium price for Side by Sides down in your parts!  To me they are just as important as your vehicle you use to get to the Gold Fields.  I use my truck now as base camp, saving the fuel and wear and tear on it sitting.  I got a 50” wide model so it fits right between the fender wells of my truck.  Being so small, it will get you thru the trees of Northern California and wiggle in between the Sage Brush of the High desert.  The engine in my RZR is a 570 goes plenty fast and gets crazy good gas mileage.  Carries a ton of gear and hasn’t let me down.

What are you using for a black light?  That one seems pretty powerful.  They supposedly work real well for agates too.

It’s Called the UVbeast 2.  It did a good job, I think they make a #3?  But, not sure it’s in a Flashlight form?  Must be a reason I didn’t get that one.

Do you have the larger coils or just the small one?

Yes, I have the next size up one!  And yes!  Has more depth than the small one!  But, My Wife likes the small one and when she isn’t Prospecting with me, I use it as my PinPointer instead of fishing around with the GPZ 7000...if the 2300 is in easy walking distance from the RZR.

  7. As a few of you may know October in the High Desert is the time to be there!  This October, I hardly seen another prospector!  Seen, more folks scouting for hunting season than anything.  I gave a few Chuckar & Antelope Hunters a pointy finger.  But, the Goldfields pretty much empty and to myself.  Well, with the Sun setting earlier and 7 pm, just a little early to rack out.  I bought a big Black Light Flashlight, to hunt some glow in the dark rocks for our new rock garden area of our backyard.  It was fun, riding the RZR around the desert at night shining that light off to the side. Seen all kids of stuff that reflects at night.  Some I didn’t bother picking up as you can see.  I need to find some other glow in the dark minerals other than Orange, lol.  But, my 2 days was spent collecting a few nuggets also.  There’s gold out there, just need to get your coil over them...Until the next Hunt!

  8. Phrunt,

That Little Coiltek is the McDaddy!  I’m the type of person, that has to see equipment preform in the gold fields. One of our group members went ahead and purchased it and he was finding nuggets on a Patch that we pounded with the stock round.  Plus, believe, it or not!  Makes the awkward 2300 nicer to swing with a straight coil, verses it being kicked off to the side.  But, it’s just My Humble Opinion.  I will tell you I like Ribeye 🥩 Steaks, lol.

  9. Not that I wanted to see if it could be done, it’s only 130 miles!  My Wife Robin, needed to dig a nugget...she hasn’t been out since our move to Reno.  Now, you always have a mental note of stuff to pack.  We loaded her Grand Cherokee, for this adventure off we go!  Arrived to a location, I figured she’d have some luck at with her SDC 2300.  Gearing up, I’m looking for both of our new Doc’s Scoops...What the Heck!  Left them both at home!  Well, I know I’ve used my hand as a scoop a few times!  But, onetime I forgot my scoop and as I was recovering a nugget I opened my hand to see the target and a Scorpion crawled out of my hand and the nugget went sky high, I later found its landing spot.  Since then, I’ve learned that a cut water bottle will get ya by as a scoop and save you from tossing good target to the wind.  Well, needless to say Robin got her fix of digging/finding some gold with her detector in and old patch, that both of us and countless others have swung on before!  Nuggets are funny, some days they are like fish biting all day and other days not a bite!  But, the Hunt and adventure is the most important to balance your inner self, Gold is just the bonus in our hobby!  Until the next hunt!

Just goes to show nobody gets it all, maybe people have detected that big triangle before and dismissed it as junk.  I would consider all of your gold there big bits 🙂

Phrunt,  anyone, can find gold right behind me!  No one gets them all and I’m at the top of that list!  Makes me go back to old patches and rework the good ones...always something left to keep you smiling 😁

  11. With Landscaping the new backyard at a stand still (needing a break 😂).  I packed up for a trip to Rye Patch to met up with some friends for a hunt!  We had a great time chasing nuggets down and enjoying the nice but windy weather!  Another hunting party text me and enticed me with Whiskey and Steaks for a pointy finger hunt.  Well, it was a great dinner, but the next morning hunt wasn’t what was expected!  Feeling the steam leaving my body, I knew it was time to head home to recharge myself for the next hunt!  The nuggets are out there just have to get your coil over them.  I found some old Levi Strauss Buttons and wondered about the fellow of yesterday wondering around without is jeans 👖 on 😳.  Until the next hunt!

  12. I was back out to Rye Patch for a short hunt with Condor, Steve from Yuma!  It was in the mid 90’s for this hunt and needless to say it takes a toll on your mental ability and cold water supply!  But, we both found some color!  Here’s my slim pickings poke and looking for cooler weather and more quality time behind my coil on some of my favorite grounds.  Until the next Hunt!

You know Rick, Reno is just your first step on your way to Wyoming!  😁

    Mitch,

l’ve traveled thru Wyoming a few times and must say, I like that State!  But, currently, there is plenty of leg room here in Rural outskirts of Reno.

  14. Ghostlands,

Ridgerunner, is correct!  Doc’s Products are field tested, which drives his manufactures Nuts.  Rest assured his quality standards are as good as his name and he stands behind all his upgrades to aid us in our Metal Detecting endeavors.  That battery pack, will prolong your day in the field as it is much lighter than Minelabs Stock Battery.  Good luck in your search.

  15. It’s been a busy Summer for Robin and I.  We wanted to Escape, Flee the once Great State of California.  We hardly recognized it any longer...well in order to do that we needed to spruce up our home to put up for sale, same time find a home in the greater Reno area.  Since Reno, was only a little over 100 miles from us in California, we rented one then two storage units and I made runs to storage units using my pickup truck.  We only needed to rent a U-Haul for the big stuff when we closed on the home in Reno.  We closed on the home in California for perfect timing, thought I was going to have to dip in my Beer money and make two mortgage payments, lol.  Anyways, I know I personally move Home Depot, Lowe’s & RC Willey stock to higher ground...plus, we just had 28 yards of concrete work done!  I needed a get away and find me a nugget on some proven grounds.  Doc from Doc’s Detecting Supply from Henderson, NV sent me a Moving out of California Gift Pack and Welcome to Nevada Detector Bling gift. A New Swing Assist Guide Arm and his new Gold Spot Scoop.  I must say, I like the new Swing Arm and his scoop has ridges on the bottom like a Gold Pan...which I will say one of the nuggets I dug up, I seen it stuck on the back riffles like you’d see gold in you pan, which raised and eyebrow!  Anyways, I had Rye Patch to myself.  Not a soul was out there, so I made some big dust trails in my RZR and headed to a patch to get my Nugget Fix on.   Ground was dry and in some places very dry...so Adjusting your Sensitivity was a must to hear these squeaky signals.  Always a very slow swing when going over proven ground...when the ducks are all gone, only the smartest nuggets are left.  You have to out smart them warily guys to coax them into your poke.  Rye Patch, is like your hungry but, cant find anything in the Frig.  I learned a longtime ago, if your hungry there’s something in that Frig to put a smile on your face!  Sure, you need to learn a few secrets of Rye Patch and of your machine...or my favorite Whiskey 🥃 and Steaks 🥩.

June is as close to "lately" as I can report.

I'll try to get down there in October and beat Lucky Lundy to it, but last I heard, he moved so close he could use his spotting scope to see if I was swinging the new GPX-6000.

Gerry, as you and I, know there is plenty of nuggets to hunt, in Rye Patch!  Makes me wonder why folks follow my dust trails all over the desert! 😂. But, you still need to know how to swing a coil to fill your poke up and a little luck never hurts anyone either.  Yep, I moved to North Reno in Cold Springs, NV.  Great location, with BLM access just down my Block, from there I can ride all the way to Oregon.  Little warm yet for Rye Patch area...still busy getting settle in with Concrete being poured this Monday!  See ya out there soon.
