Sweet! How deep?

Well done Condor!

Well done, Alex! As you found out, it's not easy to find gold nuggets with a metal detector; it takes much time and effort to be successful. I have a feeling that you will be an old pro in no time.
-
Alex, it is frustrating to dig alot of trash, but just remember that every junk target adds to your experience and skills as a metal detector operator. May your next target be yellow!

Dude, two seated coins in one day...awesome!

Having known Ron for many years, I can certainly vouch for his sincerity and genuine effort to contribute to the knowledge base that makes this such a great forum. He has a wealth of experience to share with those eager to learn about our fantastic hobby. I for one am proud to call him a friend and have the privilege of serving with him on Team Nugget Busters for Gerry's Detectors, one of the best detector dealers on the planet. Anyone can check Gerry's track record and see that he is one of the highest volume dealers, second to none in customer service, and the fact that he doesn't even advertise in any of the gold magazines itself should speak volumes. Sorry Steve, but I just had to get my blatant plug in there!

Great job, Fred. As you have found out, the Zed loves to find gold on old patches.

Sweet finds, wtg!

Awesome finds Strick, and a lovely pendant for Lisa; El Dorado is a mighty fine goldsmith.

Good one CF!

You buying plane tickets Lunk?

Well I've been averaging an ounce a month with my Zed here in Q, so it may take a few more moons, lol

Just wondering. Different polarities from northern to southern hemispheres. ZVT switches polarities. Very interesting discussion. Way above my brain payscale.
Hey good thinking...is there a physicist in the room?

SS, not unless the coriolis effect is somehow involved, lol!
Jasong, sounds like a good excuse to go hunt Australia to me...

That does make things interesting, Jasong. I have also noticed that different combinations of Gold Modes and Ground Types can alter the tones; for example in High Yield\Normal and High Yield\Difficult most all the nuggets I have found respond with a high-low, whereas in General\Difficult most reverse.
-
I'm assuming we all have equally functioning machines so the difference is either in the nugget, the ground, or the machine algorithms iteself. And I can eliminate the ground in experiments easily enough by keeping it constant and testing different nuggets in the exact same spot with the same settings.
Have you considered that perhaps since Aussie ground is generally so much more mineralized than ours that the GB point for their ground allows more nuggets to reverse than it does ours?

Lucky, there's a fatty out there with your name on it too, bro; keep er swingin!
Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Indeed Norvic, I have learned over the years that trying to glean information about a target from the tones of the detector is iffy at best, and if relied upon can cost you gold.

3 ounces so far Mitchel.

Jasong,
The 29 grammer I posted about here: http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/1572-nice-lump/was initially a warbly response in High Yield\Normal; the warble solidified into a solid high-low response after I took about 8 or 10 inches of soil out of the hole. Passing the coil over the nugget in General\Difficult gives a reverse, low-high response.

Crumbing the old nugget patches with the mighty Zed has been a blast here in the Quartzsite regional placer area of Arizona this winter. Small, deep nuggets that the older detector technologies were unable to find abound in the long forgotten raked, detected and drywashed patches of yesteryear. And there are yet reasonable lumps to be discovered lurking in the depths, albeit far less common than the dinks. Case in point, Quartzsite nugget number 124: what initially sounded like another deep boot tack with its typical warbly response, turned out to be a sweet 29 gram lump at 18 inches. It is a porous, prickly beauty, which I assume is the reason why it was missed by the pulse induction detectors. Totally lovin' the new ZVT!

A medium sized mono coil has been wanted by every ATX owner I know; the falsing issue has also made detecting with the machine a real chore. Well done Garrett for acting on customer feedback.
Now if they would just put the whole thing in a light weight, ATX LO (Land Only) version...
