Video - Spencer Digs Unique GPZ Nugget!
Lunk replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Thanks for the video link, Steve. Gerry, Spencer, myself and a couple of others from Team Nugget Busters were all getting a feel for our brand new, just out of the box GPZ 7000's on an old hammered nugget patch that day...talk about kids in a candy store...lots of fun! I have seen lots of distorted octahedron gold crystals, but the one Spencer found is totally unique and different. -
"There seem to be days that you hear stuff that you normally do not hear." I know exactly what you mean, Ray. I call it being in the zone...well rested, no distracting thoughts, totally focused and ears poised to capture the faintest disturbance of the threshold. And it very well could be that the machine, for whatever reasons, is operating at optimum performance; perhaps it's a combination of both operator and machine being in their respective zones at the same time. Whatever it is, when it does happen, I can't help but marvel at the apparent magic of the gold nuggets that seem to effortlessly appear out of ground that was devoid of any more targets the last time through. Oh, and congrats on your Zed nuggets!

Sulfides That Burn By Themselves?
Lunk replied to tvanwho's topic in Rocks, Minerals, Gems & Geology
Here is a scientific paper detailing how it happens: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.tnmsc.cn/down/20130203/37-p0276.pdf&ved=0CCoQFjADahUKEwiJvPbp9-fIAhVX6GMKHdCHA_M&usg=AFQjCNGIWQ-4lxncsPAgSe7z46wwhkQ2Iw&sig2=n6PYcf9xnZz8kZnZB15Vsg -
Very nice! The real gold is the fun you have chasing it.

Back in action at the foot of the Majuba mountains, my newly updated Zed is shredding it by kicking off the winter prospecting season with a quarter ounce of heavy metal. It's going to be a great season!

Thanks for he invite Rick, I'll be sure to wander into your camp next time, and we can talk gold while munching on some of that tasty Gold Diggers pizza!

Glad those settings work for you, Peter. I continue to use the same audio settings as described in my post that you referenced; the only functions that I adjust are the Gold Mode, Ground Type and Sensitivity, as and when the ground conditions dictate. Welcome aboard the forum, and I hope those Zed settings serve you in the gold fields as well as they have served me.

GPZ 7000 Software Update - Official Release Information
Lunk replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Thanks Wes, I successfully completed the update. Minelabs' instructions of logging into XChange 2 as the first step on their update brochure should instead read: "1. Open XChange 2 and connect the GPZ 7000 to a computer via USB". -

GPZ 7000 Software Update - Official Release Information
Lunk replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
When I input my username and password to log in to Xchange2, it says "authenticating..." and then "must be connected to the internet to log in"...the only thing is I AM connected...what's up with that? -
Did you pan that material?
-
Thanks guys. Mitchel: PM sent.

Hey everybody, With summer officially over here in Idaho, it will be time for me to start heading south towards the desert southwest, hitting my favorite gold fields along the way. Between 70-hour work weeks and area closures due to forest fires during the past few months, I was able to hit the local nugget patches with the GPZ 7000 only a handful of times...far less than I usually do...but the new ZVT technology of the Zed more than made up for it. I have literally scoured these old patches for years with VLF gold machines as well as most every model of Minelab PI units, from the old SD 2100 on through to the GPX 5000; it was a rare event to find a buried crack or crevice in the bedrock that contained a few small nuggets, however with the Zed it has been a common occurence with half a dozen to 2 dozen nugget pockets being unearthed. I was lucky to find three nuggets in a day with the GPX 5000, but have been averaging a dozen with the 7000 - in all, 98 pieces of gold with a total weight of over 25 grams - not a bonanza by any means, but it's a real eye opener as to how much gold the new zero voltage transmission technology can pick up in an area that has been virtually cleaned out with previous technologies. Looking forward to more fun in the sun this winter...hope to see you in the gold fields and good luck out there!

Good post Condor, and nice nugget. Althogh the Difficult Ground Type does attenuate signal, it still out performs the Fine Gold timing of the GPX 5000. Don't be afraid to try the Severe Ground Type if the ground is really bad; I've been able to find nuggets in ground that was previously unhuntable even with the GPX 5000.

You totally earned that one, Condor!

Excellent swinging, Condor!

Wtg everyone!
