    Have you used the 6.5x9 concentric on it? I had the 9x12 which worked pretty well around iron but was bit heavy.

  2. 3d printed parts can be strong enough but depends on the design of the part, filament used and printer setup and settings. Advanced materials such as glass and carbon filled offer much more strength basic materials.

    Duplicating a part that was injection molded with thin walls with a fdm will not have the same strength as the parts are formed differently.

    CNC machining of parts is very costly and designs can have limitations.

    FDM has a good advjantage over cnc machined parts and injection molded parts when parts have thick bodies. CNC part will be heavy and an injection molded part will have suck back and ejector pin marks. Also injection molded parts with thick surfaces also suffer from fissures where the plastic doesn't cool evenly or flow evenly causing weak spots.

    FDM has the advantage of using infill patterns where you maintain strength and reduce material and use.

    Consider in the case of use for metal detectors with making a coil housing.

    Injection molded part would work but be expensive in tooling. Where coil ears are you risk suck back causing a weak spot.

    CNC part the cost would be through the roof.

    Vacuum formed (most common) is the most cost effective but the entire underside indcluding support ribs would need to be filled with epoxy to make it rigid to avoid knock sensitivity and then will be heavy.

    For short production a coil housing done with fdm will not necessarily have the suface quality of the other processes without post processing ie sanding or acetone vapor baths but you can take the solid support ribs and use an infill and internally add support structures to make it rigid with less weight.

    The part design needs to be adjusted for the process and material being used.

    Additive manufacturing and CNC have their place but not in a mass production demand.

    The Gold Gain has both gain and sensitivity and similar price. I think the GG would be the better machine in that regard. Again... unless they have a machine under 10khz or have concentric coil options, hunting around small iron can mask you out as it would with any other machine with vdi or not. High frequency machines are nice but depending on the area and type of hunting your doing can be very counter productive.

  4. Different style of hunting. Analog machines take time to learn the machine being used. Not all are the same or have same nuances. They can be difficult in high trash areas especially around can slaw.

    As for Deeptech they really need to have some concentric coil options for their lineup. All are above 10khz which can be a big problem around nails and sheet metal like can bits.

    Gold Gain looks like it could be a formidable jewelry hunter with that super six coil in parks and tot lots.

  5. What do you mean break? When hunting in all metal I listen for a rise in tone and keep base hum at a minimum. If the hum gradually rises or drops off I know I am out of ground balance.  I can often find faint targets that may not even have an ID and are just on the fringe of detection for the machine/coil combination.

    Useful in moderate and low trash areas for deeper searching.

  6. We are able to post 3d files here on the forum. Will be easier for users to access files that relate to the detecting industry.

    I just posted final files for the Cibola/Vaquero battery door that I made. Will be posting more models as I make them.

    Not a good idea to post files that others make without permission (duh).

  7. Surface is a little rough, have to fiddle with the settings on the printer but dimensionally accurate. Coil cover is semi solid so should be better around undergrowth etc, less hangups.

    Printed in PVA, ABS or ASA would be better. If anyone likes I can post a link to the cad file.

    Marks on top of my coil is from old glow in the dark duct tape, used to do a bit of hunting at dusk and low like, helped me see where the coil was for digging. Will put new tape on when I get around to it. 🙂

    I noticed that too. On the Multi Kruzer if I use beach mode and GB isn't spot on it will get noisy. I usually manually ground balance and can get the machine running super quiet.

    Might be worth trying a manual GB on the Legend and see if that does the trick.
