  1. I know there are many factors concerning this question but I'm wanting opinions from anyone who has experience with both units. I also know that the Deus2 hasn't been in the field very long, so much is still to be learned. I currently have the ORX with a X35 nine inch coil and was wanting to upgrade to either the D1 with a 11 inch coil so I would have the versatility of coil choices, or the other option of purchasing the D2 and lose the option of having compatible coils. I relic and coin hunt 100% of the time. Any opinions?

    Thanks in advance....

  2. Keep it simple is my opinion. Use Field 1 with just one tone and leave everything else as factory settings. When you do this your just listening to the iron low tones and the non iron tones. Doing this let's you focus on the one good tone. Once you get a good signal you can then look at your VMI and determine if it's hitting on a solid number or numbers that jump all over the board. If it's hitting solid dig it. I think this helps learn the machine and what it's telling you. Once you get comfortable with doing this you can add more tones and features. The Nox will find great stuff with just the factory settings. Good luck!

  3. Chase,

the targets were .58 caliber bullets and 1 piece of grape shot. I couldn’t hear the bullets at all and barely heard the grapeshot. The bullets we’re probably 4 inches deep and the grape probably at 8 or 9 inches. My ground is pretty neutral. I changed frequencies numerous times to get as close as possible to what the X35 was running. I also went from coin fast to deep. The difference was eye opening. Thanks for your help and recommendations.

  4. Does anyone use the X35 coil on the ORX? Any opinion on it compared to the HF coils? I got smoked today by a friend. He was using the 11 inch legacy coil (with the Deus) while I was using the 9 inch elliptical coil with the ORX. I realize coil size was a factor but he was getting tones on objects that I couldn't even pick up. We were running the same frequency, reactivity, etc,  just to compare. Any thoughts?

  5. And that's why I purchased it. I wanted a simple easy to operate machine. The only issue I have with it is the tones. It seems to me that the tones are somewhat slurred. In my opinion, it doesn't have that "dig me" tone when you get the coil over a good target. Is there a huge difference in tones between the 2 machines? Of course I'm still in my learning curve so it may just be me. ? Thanks for the information. The button you dug is in awesome shape!

  6. I found these buttons yesterday with the ORX. Two of the buttons were "D" buttons and one was a "V" button. While I'm glad the ORX hit the targets I'm unsure how I was able to tell if they were digable targets. Granted I don't have a lot of hours with the ORX but I'm having significant problems trying to identify good targets. The target ID numbers seem to be unreliable and the tones seemed to be slurred once you get past the iron tone. I'm not knocking the machine but was hoping for some tips on the "how to" of recognizing the "dig me" targets.

I have the HF Elliptical coil and I'm detecting in fairly trashy areas. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Any chance XP will push an update that may help with TID and tones?

I have Deus and Eqx 800.

You mentioned park type areas.  The lowdown.  Modern trash can be identified better generally with Eqx.  Eqx can keep a person off the more odds on favorite lower conductors like foil, etc.

Deus will give high tone on these as they deepen somewhat no matter your settings as long as you don’t get rid of high iD range,  it if you do this you’ll miss higher conductive coins.

You mention coil size equivalency.  Eqx with stock coil can do things Deus with 11” LF coil can’t do (likely more freq  driven).  Have seen this firsthand.  The Hf coils smaller than Eqx stocker.  So for coilmsize equivalency one must have 11” x35 coil.  I have run 9” x35 coil and returned to owner, I have not run 11 incher.

But ID capabilities if like the x35 9” coil lackluster vs Eqx with stocker.  Eqx gives tremendous ID on iron masked targets compared to many detectors.  Multi frequency use seems makes this possible.

Both detectors work.  I love both. Use both.

Thanks guys. I agreeTn, seems like the Nox desciminates better in my hunting scenarios. The ID seems to be much more helpful on the Nox also. The design and weight goes to the XP of course, it's like swinging a feather. I like both machines and I'm still learning each, but I'm leaning more toward the Nox at this point.

soooooo, you guys that have both Equinox and XP Deus/Orx,  which one has an edge in separation in trashy park-type areas, comparing same type/size coils of course.....

Inquiring minds (and me) want to know this answer. ? I know there's a bunch of variables, but I would love to hear opinions from people who own and hunt with both. I'm currently learning both machines and it's hard to have one in both hands for comparison. ??‍♂️?

Nice finds, they're all so close to the same date, maybe lost at the same time?

Possibly.... there was also a good bit of camp lead there also so it may be a small camp. We went back today to follow up on the site but the farmers had it freshly plowed. It will be after harvest now before I can get back in there.

Nice, that's the kind of site I enjoy detecting!  If any of thsoe are San Francisco minted, could be good news.

They were all New Orleans mint marks. I would love to find one with a San Francisco mark.

  11. Groundscanner and I stumbled upon a spot and I pulled these three 1850 era half dimes out. I’m guessing the flat piece of lead with the “X” scratched in it is some type of game piece. Pretty good day. I was running the Nox on field 2. Thanks for looking!

Here is a photo of the finds that I had mentioned in a previous post.  Nearly all of these finds were found on one small ridge that we had come to think of as being hunted out (using a variety of non-minelab detectors).

    Thanks for looking,

I need to work on getting an invite to that spot. :)
