  1. Interesting question but I'm still pretty new to metal detecting and don't have an answer, I do however look forward to what people who have more experience have to say about this. I've used three coils, a DD, a mono sniper coil and a Miner John's Folder Mono and each had their own way of detecting things. The folded mono took some getting used to and I still use a test target from time to time to remind me how it detects toe to heel and side to side while sweeping over a target. I dug enough "large" holes when I first got it to know I'm saving time and effort with my practice tests lol.
  2. I've lurked, and even posted a few times, I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Allen and I contracted gold fever in March of 2018 . I'm 56 years old and a computer analyst for a local law enforcement agency. I enjoy this and a few other forums, there is so much good information that is helping me in becoming both a better metal detectorist and prospector. Hope everyone is having a great day. Allen
  3. I have two that I use depending on where I'm at and what I'm doing. I have a green one (like in Steve's pic on the right) that is used for actual nugget shooting, where I'm not going to be digging into crevices. For crevicing I like to use a smaller Fiskars Transplanter scoop, it is much easier to get into tight spaces.
  4. Stolik333, I own a TDI SL SE and a GPX 5000. Both are great detectors in my opinion but the GPX has found targets deeper than the White's for me on a couple of occasions. I really like the TDI and actually prefer to use it due to it being so much lighter but if all I was concerned about were depth I would use the GPX. Kac is correct about them too, they don't have discrimination so you'll be digging all signals and after you've dug a few 20 plus inch holes and only come up with trash that GPX seems heavier than it actually is! I don't have any experience with the other detectors you listed.
  5. Aureous thank you for your time and effort in posting this information, I find it very helpful in making a decision between the GM1000 or the 24k. I don't think a person can go wrong with either detector but reading what you've written, and what some others have to say, I think the 24k with it's features might be the better choice for me.
  6. Cool find. I'm assuming it is a bucket loader tooth?
  7. Great story lol. Congrats on the nugget, awesome job. As for the penny I guess it could have been worse, lead birdshot!
