On the Kruzer and Impact with the 5x9DD coil at 5khz seemed to punch a bit deeper and I was rewarded finding some silver coins in some mineralized grounds.

I kept a post from keith Southern regarding the Kruzer Gen mode. I will repost here for everyone.

Gen mode is a threshold based all metal mode..Single channel,no phase shifting so no disc..Think of it
like a raw feed before its ran through a seperate channel and comepred to produce a disc circuit...
A raw signal..reports everything with no bias although the visual ID will still work as it is tapped from
the disc side. the Gen mode will report it all..The Gen mode is best used in less littered sites for depth
and or mineral punch where you know I.D .is not important or skewed so bad it's irrelevant..
The gen mode is the deepest soil punch mode when set up accordingly..that is highest gain possible
without threshold waver or chatter..to set threshold you want to have on headphones and adjust
threshold to be just barley audible..right to the edge of going silent but still buzzing in your
ear..Threshold is like a carrier.it rises and falls when targets come towards it and passes it...set it too
low below audible buzz and weak targets may not be strong enough to cause it to rise above null..Set
it to loud and weak targets from depth or small targets will also be ignored as they can reach the point
to overcome the louder carrier noise..set it right on the edge of hearing it but no drop outs while
holding it in the air..then once a proper ground balance is achieved that same threshold in the air
should be heard while on target free soil..Then as you sweep if the threshold wants to null or rise
where there's no targets then you need to reground balance..Offset ground balance is easy to tell
from legitimate targets..huge nulls usually...if you find the soil is all over the place use auto tracking to
help rapidly changing ground conditions and or back of sensitivity if its to strong for the soil from blow
back..you'll have to find a sweet spot for the sen's and even swing speeds will help..you at the thrshold
to run smooth and barely there..then as you cross a target it will rise and fall its a raw feed so you will
get a feel of size and depth by the width and modulation of the signal..nails will usually way wah
sound like two small targets close together ..you'll learn when to look at the ID by modulation and
roundness..if its stronger it will usually show up on ID screen weak may or may not..the ones that
don't show up on ID screen and sound smooth round and deep are the ones you'll want to cut the
cake on so to speak.pull some dirt out to get it to the visual ID reading at least..
All metal threshold based hunting is fun and a huge eye opener and a great learning tool to really
understand a machine to its fullest..You have the best depth if you stay in tracking off but if you have
mineral and such till you adapt to the sound of a proper running feel tracking on may be a great
starting point...
And today's all metal modes with DD coils and such and SAT controls and auto track etc are a whole lot
easier to learn on than the old days when we didn't have SAT or even auto track..Keith

I will PM you my electronics engineer friend's email  in Colo Springs, he would be one to talk to. His detector line up sounds like yours plus a bunch.

We have  beaches that contain black magnetic sand mixed in with the silica sand.

It's a headache for most detectors, loss of depth, normally good target ID's drop into the lower range. Iron will wrap around and ID in the silver range. Good chance your passing all the good targets and digging more trash. Better to dig all ID numbers that the sand causes the detector to drop 30 ID numbers that are normally 80-90"s. That's the reason why many claim all they find is junk on the beach.

The beach causes a loss in depth, very hard to find a coin on edge.

The only trick I find that works well, is a smaller coil and hunting in a true threshold based all metal mode. Listen for a sharp narrow coin size tone and dig.

The best detector here is a Pi or a Minelab.

Yup, that is after you do the Simplex update. It does make a difference. Especially now that the Simplex has better see thru in the beach sand we have here that has magnetic black sand mixed in. Videos are good, as it lets you see how a detector responds to different soil conditions around the country. What works good in your soil, may not work well in anothers. And you won't know for sure unless you are able to try that detector in the soils you hunt. I have had detectors that worked superb in Northern soils, take them south and they turned into dogs.  That's why it was always a good idea to seek out local club members or a local dealer and see what they are using, most likely the brand model that is working there.   Air tests-bench testing is really all its good for, doesn't give actual performance unless you take it out in the field  and add the ground matrix. That tells all.

It all comes down to the individual persons needs and likes that fall within their budget.

The great thing about Nokta/Makro, is the company (Dilek) makes every Nokta/Makro product owner feel like they are a valuable part of the company family and will listen to them.......Unlike other companies who just consider you another numbered customer.

That's a big draw, which also makes you feel good using their products.

Nothing is ever perfect for everyone, perfection is almost never unattainable. Its fun trying and can be rewarding.

But now isn't everyone looking for the perfect detector, how many have many detectorists gone thru 5-10-20-30-100?

You never find it...............I know I am a perfectionist, always looking to improve something. Anything I build far exceeds most anyone's  expectations.

I think Nokta/Makro is trying to build the "perfect" detector to meet the masses. Clearly taking in suggestions regarding improvements and implementing them with updates in record time. If the Simplex met 20% of potential buyers needs and the rest are on the fence due to lack of features or performance. Why not update the detector to meet the needs and wants of another 20%. And keep the price the same. Then try to grab another percentage of potential buyers?  All this within reason not to affect sales of the higher end models. Which are jam packed with features, performance, modes and multitude of setting adjustments. Kind of like an budget priced Porsche car and its big brother the Turbo.

Any Simplex updates is a bonus and makes a more adaptable and fun detector to use.

There will most likely be another update, using suggestions given by current Simplex users with current update.

Some complaints by those who want to revert back a version or two. Not recommended.

Also the new accessory coils will not work with any Simplex that hasn't been updated to the current version.
Guess this is why the accessory coils haven't been made available yet.

Who knows how far this Simplex project is going,on its way to being the perfect product? For the price this detector is getting better and better.

This is also being addressed for a future update.

Great Hunt!!! My friend in Oz a number of years back sent me a whole set of Aussie coins from early silvers/coppers  to modern clad.

When I bench tested the Impact, Kruzer, Anfibio, they loved those coins. Now your finding so does the Simplex.

Some have found with their particular computer, they have had to re-install the (Nokta/Makro) update program and do the update a couple times before it took. This as happened with the other model detectors  as well. Windows does not always like to play well with installs......

I have dual boot on my desktop. Main OS is Linux Mint. On my second hard drive I run Windows 7, that's the drive and OS I use for Nokta/Makro updates.

Just a side note, if running windows. After installing the updater program, it may have to install some drivers missing on your computer. This may take a few extra steps and clicks before you can begin updating. After that for me it was super quick and easy.

I think most will be very happy to update the Simplex. Simplex owners now get a free upgrade that turns the original into a much better machine without having to buy a new detector to upgrade.

Dilek has just posted an update regarding the Simplex update on Facebook, regarding the Covid-19 restrictions in Turkey.

Not much to see, two bundles of wire and possibly a small circuit board, provided you want to spend hours chipping away the epoxy filling. If you hunt around there are many pictures on line as to what's inside a search coil.

Also pictured are my Mirage Pi mono coils showing the wire bundled coil being potted with epoxy.

And the best thing you can do with the bad coil is take off the coil cover. Loosen up the strain relief fitting where the coil cable goes into the coil, then wrench off the coil fitting from the coil itself. Cut the coil cable down into the coil. Save the coil cable and fittings, for whatever, shame to toss it out. Then throw the bad coil into the trash. As much as you might like to save it, it's trash, get rid of it.

I found the solution to this shut down issue experimenting with several power heads and two coils.

I did relate my findings back to Nokta.

It was an easy fix when you understood what was happening.

Short version:

Part goes bad in the search coil, shorts detector. Powerhead goes "dormant". It will no longer turn on.

Unplug bad coil, will not power up. Plug in charger into wall out and Simplex. , Simplex blinks. And that it.

Plug in a known good coil. Powerhead will still not power up or turn on. Powerhead is not dead its dormant.

With good coil attached. Plug in charger into wall outlet and Simplex for 1 minute, maybe less. This re energizes the powerhead, re-establishes a brain connection. Removes short. Unplug wall charger. Press the power button and the powerhead fires back up, good as new.

This is the solution that worked for all three powerheads that failed when the bad coil was plugged in.

Just a note, if you plug the bad coil in again. The powerhead will not turn on again. You'll have to do the fix above with the new coil and charger.

By the way, many manufactured brands of DD coils have a very small circuit board with electronic parts epoxy encapsulated within the coil itself. So if you ever had a coil go bad, now you know why. Attached pix, for example is a Minelab Xterra coil.

Marketing strategy to get everyone hyping, speculating about appearance, performance and features. Stall potential sales of competitor machines...........All we know in the video they compare it to the Ace as a huge upgrade. Reading between the lines, it doesn't compare to the AT Pro or Max.  So price would be around the same selling price as its perceived competition-----Simplex, Vanquish, Nox etc.??

This will be interesting. Garrett dangling a carrot, who is going to jump.
Should be interesting to see if its another cellphone on a stick.
The new Apex is being compared to the Garrett Ace.
So competition will be the Simplex, Vanquish, Nox, Quest?

Please a small coil, not just another manhole cover!!!

Not sure how many have ever met Sandy Cline. He is quite a character and still at it with soapstone carving.

Many of us used to relic hunt with Sandy back in the 70's hunting for War of 1812 treasures. He was probably the leading expert on finding battle site locations and camps.

He has found tons of items, he used to display etc. Also an avid prospector hunting for silver in Cobalt, Ontario. He used to take us up there..........

Sandy is still very active with his carving.

Due to Covid Emergency Declaration here in Ontario Canada. I work, and we are now at least a month behind shipping schedule. I am usually a week ahead and rarely fall behind in my section. This virus is causing many headaches for many people and companies and suppliers  from many countries. At least Nokta was not forced to close shop during this crisis. Turkey is a foreign country with laws and customs different than what the US has.....................................just a waiting game now.
