    Paul;

Life tends to get in the way of the Best of Intentions...

Mitchel has stuck to it and found gold...

And he has a few more days to go...

    fred

    Lol Fred....

i was hoping you were gonna suit up and fly in to give him some “re-education” classes....and a set of horse hobbled to slow him down ?

One thing about Mitch..... you can’t say he didn’t see that area of Sustralia pretty dam well

    I know Fred.

I have some pointy finger spots left.  That is how I found the gold I have now.  The object here is like the object there of getting your coil over a piece of gold that has not been found of course.

Research here is like going to My Land Matters or a similar map that shows past workings (Doug Stone's Maps) and throwing a dart at it and going.  And going and going or working and working ... I've done a little of both.  I need gold within a foot of the surface if I'm going to find it.

Now there is a light rain.  I get a map and go (since I don't have a local or guide) or I use the pointy finger.  Life is a choice.  I'm ok with the results now.  I've got a couple of pieces.  I know what it is all about again.

Thanks for sticking with me.  We've had this 'where do I go' discussion about many places.  I can think of Yuma, Gold Basin, Rye Patch ... did I leave any out?  haha

I'll report at the end of the day.

I was sure hoping would have some new friends show you around a bit. That what I understood was going to happen when you rocked up. I could never have found the gold nor developed the friendships I have without actually camping, fossicking ,and fishing together.

But I could have been reading my experiences in to the beginning of  your thread and just assumed you had people lined up to take you for a swing....

Sounds like you are having a good time and that’s good!

  5. I Hopped on my quad bike yesterday afternoon just to take a run up to top of the Hill to check out phone service. After that I saw some quartz That got my attention so I drove over there and   Then  over there,  and then over there , next thing you know I looked around and went uh-oh.

so I decided which way I should go to get back to camp drove that way just for a little bit and then I checked my phone with the map app I have on it and Of course I was going about 90° the wrong way. It’s easy to mess up out here.

And I won’t be depending on my phone alone again.... it almost died before I got to camp .........digging out my gps today

like  Norvic told me , it’s the little stuff you forget that will get you killed here,,,,and getting lost is one of the most common

Well, I'm back from Wedderburn.  I saw a great sunrise on the way there.

I had been given a pointy finger up there because it was supposed to be dryer than the other places.  There were puddles all over the place and you could see running water streamletts from a few days ago.  I don't know what that did for my detecting but I came away without any gold this day.  I've got a pocket full of trash (I left my pouch at Reg's).

The beginning of the day I was on the mullock piles just trying to get started.  In the second half of the day I got a Doug Stone's map for the area and was trying some of the reefs rather than the workings which looked like they were very deep.  At the end I went to Pickles and swung a little before I left.

I left to go look at Inglewood and Kingower.  I didn't get out of the car but that looks like where I'll go back to tomorrow.  My impression is that the workings were not as deep and there is more of a slope to the Long Gully that I could grid if I get something.  I was very much hoping I'd have some color at the end of the day.  I got in 7 hours of swinging and the remainder was looking and driving.

I've put a couple of racing stripes on the rental car under the dirt and mud.  I think someone dinged it with their door at the beach.  When I turn it in it will be dirty and maybe they won't notice!

    More later.

My Baja detecting partner Dennis and I went out this AM for a little practice before we hit the Aussie Shores next week.  I found one little rice grain sized nugget, Dennis went hog wild on me.  I hope he doesn't use up all his luck before we get to OZ.

    Wow great job Dennis!!!!

There is no gold that big in WA for sure....may have to change your plans to The Triangle or send you to  Norvic.

I got more than the weights out of the trip.  Before I could get down to the beach a guy a bit older than me came over when I was on the grass turning it on and said he was thinking about getting an 800.  I showed him some basics while his wife walked the dog and then he asked if I found any gold with it.  I said yes.  I said I was also going to Wedderburn after the beach and he said: "I live there!"  So he said I needed to look there for at least a week because it is not like it was 15 years ago.  His wife was calling him (I think she didn't want him to buy another detector) but he told me that someone got a 7 ouncer last week but it is very few and far between.

I rented this room for 2 nights so I'm just south of Bendigo and have an hour drive but I was told that Wedderburn doesn't really have any accommodations.  Have car will travel.

    Bendigo is kinda nice.

That’s the real gold of Australia,,,,the people!!!

i only got two more small pieces today and I’m in jeopardy of termination.......

  9. First day in country and a rough one it had already turned out to be...

First of all i didn't lose anything on the way over so that left me with a whole day to kill in Perth, instead of calling baggage handlers as per the normal first days here...

So i started up with a classic Aussie brekkie... 1000 carbs... but delicious!

I do have orders from the Taskmaster to pick up an alternator for my fourby.... at first i couldn't figure out how he knew it was bad since he doesn't drive her..???

Then the answer was there,  clear as a bell.... he'd worn the alternator past it's useful life of service keeping my 2 fridges full of cold beer down to proper temp....?

I have an inverter that is always charging my detecting equipment whenever the engine is on.  The phone is charged on a separate plug but the USB would be good.

A word of caution for Mitchel--- be sure to rotate the USA 12v cigarette ligher plug 180 degrees opposite of how you plug it in here in the USA or it wont work.... things are upside down there and it may overheat or something if you get it reversed.... Just a note--you sure dont want to blow a fuse down there because there fuses are left or right only....

    Have fun mate?

  11. 10 hours until wheels up for ..... Queensland goldfields...(lol) yeah thats it Queensland or Victoria--not sure which, but i do know thats where the gold is---- laying on the ground in heaps after that last tectonic plate shift !!!!

I heard rumors of gold squirting up out of the ground and landing like pillow lava.... be sure and get a good ute or you wont be able to carry the nuggets back...

Too bad they also said that tectonic shift causedd a major dip in WA and all the gold there is now 300 met4ers deeper than it was before--

Guess i can get some beach hunting in and then go seemy new fillapina wife if I get bored....

May have to hook up with Norvic and DaveW  to get any real gold this year......

See ya all around -----?----Cheers you lucky dogs!

This is one of the longer, if not longest set of postings I’ve read.

The great thing is that Minelab reads the post, and can see that interest by those that use their detectors.... They “get it”, and they’re, as Phrunt says, Minelab is responding faster with newer models - and they appear to be building upon the newer chips they’ve developed for models like the NOX.

My guess is that they’ll have another winner that is more affordable for the niche they’re aiming at, and that it’ll sport most of what you all are speculating upon.  Patience is almost as hard to find as gold is.⛏⛏⛏⛏

the longest post is the one that asked the question....what is the best detector.......?
