  1. John, I didnt get to hunt this ground long due to the mossies voracious appetite for my lifeblood... I had been on the river most of the evening and thought i would check this spot as I was driving out---It is back away from the river under the trees and seemed to be the site of a mossy convention... I did find a piece of pipe about a foot deep, and an auto door shim at 8 inches --- The "7005" did pretty darn good at GB ing the ground on manual or auto---- good enough that i found those two targets while i was running for my life back to the truck... I ran sensitivity at 18 and had to use coin instead of prospecting due to the amount of trash targets.... i was cherry picking for stuff .... 46 is a common number i get that usually has ended up being trash--- tin cans or such.. I haven't figure out how to notch numbers yet properly---- i can get them to reject on the screen but when i go over them a lot of the heavy trash still sounds off in 46, -2,-4, -6, -8, 2, 4 Seems like Zincolns like 33 gold is hitting around 30-40....depending on what type it is and how big it is---- This is where sound means a lot to me---i am already starting to learn the "7005's" love language..... i run on 4 tones ---- it has distinctly different sounds for coins, vs trash and gold vs iron or trash..... pull tabs have been notched out somehow--thank God! Still learning.....
  2. This will give you an idea of the ground I'm hunting
  3. anyone remember Hasbro----- they made pretty good plastic toys---
  4. Well, Took a trip to an old gold mine today on one of my friends claim--- He hadn't been there in 4 years or so so we didnt know what to expect---except another good hike --- This area had a huge fire about 3 or 4 yrs ago and because of that the dirt can wash when it rains--- That is exactly what happened at the adit---rain from the hillside above washed dirt down dumping it right in front of the mine adit--- Essentially damming the water that used to run out---so i have to go back and spend a little time digging a trench in the dirt and rocks to drain the front of the mine-- for about 40 feet on the way into the mine the water is ~4 feet deep-- I will try to siphon it out first--- not because I dont like using a pick and shovel,,,but just to see if it will work,,,lol _____________________________________________________ Oh YEAH, I broke the ears on my 3khz concentric this time---it is just too hard on them when i am climbing in and out of these canyons--i guess I will have to make a jig for sure now---then production for the masses will be ready----hahahaha--- https://picasaweb.google.com/104592762424805629687/3KhzBrokenCoilMounts?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCJDf6f7Qza3bvwE&feat=directlink Minelab 7005 Mule Ear Coil reinforcers---- Produces "up to 40%" more happiness~~~!
  5. 10.00 is ridiculous----they should give them to owners because they are so flimsy to start with....
  6. Oh yes.. Up to 40% better... Grinning..
  7. 3khz -9" I don't have any 6" coils---- if I did I would probably put the "super ear mod"-- on them too---- kinda like them for strength!!!--- I think I will call them, "Mule ears"------ I will probably have to go in business now turning out these modded coils and won't have any time to detect.....They are just THAT good-------hahahaha-------- ahhh what a world.....
  8. Yes but I think the Opal is fake.... I have never seen many
  9. Oooooooooooooooooopsy........... Now try it...... I had it blocked in Picasa settings..sorry Zippers, opal gems, and 41 cents----yeeeehaaaw....
  10. Today's find in 2 hrs------ Starting to understand her language a little https://picasaweb.google.com/104592762424805629687/2015061902?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCLjf5YGX1NfTsAE&feat=directlink Look at that BIG Fire opal i found.....
  11. I find it absolutely amazing that minelab can be so far ahead of the game in electronics, yet miss so many things o on the case/coil/headphone plug... on their equipment... It is almost like their QA department is non existent.... Very simple things that should not be...
  12. Definitely No paint.... I want to remember, every time I am looking at my coil, not to use it for a walking stick!!!
  13. Tom-- First you have to find out from your buddies which carrier works in your area-- Verizon works here in NorCal, but I used to use T-Mobile down in AZ ---so figure that out first--- then get a plain Jane Android cell smart phone ---- you can start out using Straight Talk from WalMart for 45.00 a month---if you dont like it or cant understand how the sim cards work-----ask the kids at the Wal Mart counter---or your grandkids!!!! lolo http://www.walmart.c...ice:$150 - $200 http://www.walmart.c...tphone/44465722 Easier to go to Wal Mart and see what they have---get the absolute biggest screen you can afford---!!!! ANd if T-Moblie works in your area..... I have a Chinese Doogee phone you can have--it is a good phone, but i cant use T-Mobile here in NorCal....then all you would have to buy would be a 45.00 prepaid Straight Talk sim card ----and start playing around---- if you dont like it you can send it back---- Either way--the Straight Talk phones are the way to go if you dont have a big family plan already where you can just add a line. Hope this helps a little---remember---when in doubt hang around the electronics counter at Wal Mart or Best Buy----- DONT DO A CONTRACT https://goo.gl/photo...UN9rGqj5io8mbeA
  14. Hey y'all-------this is the link to a bunch of pictures and one video of the coil repair---- It isnt the prettiest job but it will hold up now! We used a piece of a PVC gutter downspout my buddy found while we were prowling thru the hardware store trying to find something that would work and hold glue--(Thanks for the tip on nylon--) Anyway, once we finally found that piece it was pretty simple,,,if you lived in a bigger town you may be able to find standard PVC L-brackets and that would save a few steps! Total cost was about 12.00 usd..... plus the fun we had making it...lolol---- (Grumpy Old Men) Thanks again for all your alls help in this 705 adventure!!!! Paul https://picasaweb.google.com/104592762424805629687/705CoilEarRepair?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCKS_4ZfMhpqnSA&feat=directlink
  15. I think I remember that you can simply get a piece of 1/2 pvc pipe with a coupler and slide it right down over the wire and squeeze it onto the short wand......
  16. UH oh..... He was reading this post.... OK, I hereby retract all disparaging remarks i made identifying Merton Brown as the, "Research Police"----- I misspoke when i 'unintentionally' implied that..... I apologize to Merton for my insensitivity...... And I will be glad when he is here in NorCal so he can teach me more about this detector hands on---(so i dont have to research so much ,,,lol) Paul
  17. Thx for that tip... Nylon is what I had!!! Looking online for plastic now.
  18. Thanks Steve, I guess because the SDC wasnt having that many problems there, (except for trash) i assumed the ground was quiet----mistake!--- but the Garrett AT Gold seemed to do ok----( maybe---probably-!-- settings on my part????) But i need to really get back out there and fiddle some more--no way to tell if the detector can handle it or not the way I am going at it.... I will try some more and let you all know--- I'm kicking myself for not trying the 18.75 elliptical while i was already out there----!!!!grrrrr--that was a real faux-pauly.... Yeah, breaking the coil hurt my feelings.... Usually while using my 4000 and the 18" round down in Greaterville i would snap the plastic bolts because i would lean on it..... always had to have spares on hand--- this was different in the 705 because the coil ears were weaker than the 1/4 in nylon bolt....!!! I almost have all the parts to fix it but i needed a 2 inch x 1/4 inch nylon bolt and couldnt find on in Truckee-- (the old Minelab 3500 ones i had would probably had worked but i gave them all to the guy who bought it-- i found some dandy nylon washers that I am going to epoxy on the outside of the coil ears (hence the extra length needed for the bolts) and that should do it----next time i will be looking to replace a broken shaft because the ears will be too strong ---hahahaha
