  1. I liked the one with the switch...it was good on a hot lake bed.....
  2. amen...gb Dont worry.... You all are DNR to me.... This tech is so simple..... Be calm, push the button, sit down and relax.... Thats it.... A three year old monkey can use it....i know this..... because they tested it with goldbrick first....lolol
  3. Carry an epirb or a spot if you that far away from a vehicle...otherwise...keep your cool and start working your way out.
  4. First aid of snakebite The aim of first aid is to retard the systemic absorption of venom and prevent life-threatening complications by prompt transport to a medical facility. First aid can be performed by victim himself/herself or by any person who happens to be nearby. Traditionally, first aid included making local incisions or "tattooing" at the site of the bite, attempts at suctioning venom out of the wound, use of tight bands (tourniquets) around the limb, and/or local application of ice packs. None of the traditional remedies have any proven medical benefit. They should be discouraged as they do more harm than good and delay transport to a medical facility. Incision, suction, electric shocks, cryotherapy, or washing the wound are contraindicated as any interference with the wound introduces infection, increases bleeding from the site, and hastens absorption of the venom. The current guidelines for first aid include the following: Reassure the victim (70% of all snakebites are by nonvenomous snakes and 50% of bites by venomous species are dry bites[19] ) Immobilize the affected limb (by bandage or clothes to hold splint, but tight arterial compression is not recommended) Promptly transfer of victim to hospital I have first hand knowledge as i was bitten when i was a freshman in high school---i was walking down a country road and nearly stepped on the copperhead that bit me.... I got to the hospital with in 45 minutes, but sad news for me was that after i got the antivenom shots i became very sick because i was allergic to it.... It probably hurt me worse than the snake did!!! I hear there are newer anti-venoms on the scene now... so dont screw around,, immobilize and transport--that's it... ----- dont be super medic and make things worse..best thing you can do with a snakebite kit is to throw it at the snake!...lol paul PS---The bite scares you worse than anything---you'll probably live thru it...... if you dont have a heart attack first!!!
  5. That is nice looking country to me--- i grew up in east Tennessee ----looks a little familiar with the trees and mtns in the background.. Thx for sharing... paul
  6. You know me Lucky... Klean em up Kirkeminde...lol... But be careful...I have even found nuggets following Rudy around...hahaha.. Keep on killing it with the Wolf Pack!!!!
  7. It is a term all electric bicycle riders and RC trucks etc are familiar with... I will give you an example.... I had a bike with a 1000 watt Golden motor back hub type..... Instead of running it with a controller and battery pack giving it a 1000 watt drive-- I hooked up a bigger controller (40amps) so i could send 62 volts to the motor with 2480 watts driving the electirc motor---THATS overvolting---you have to have a motor that can take it or it wil fry going up hills... PS Good call on the meds---I am on a little robaxin ,,, hurt my back picking up a pt the other night...but i dont think it affects me any,,,,lol
  8. The ALL PLASTIC mode was a great technique i learned from a local digger here in Truckee...It goes like this: First you have to take out two batteries or your detector is too over-volted for plastic- ( i think this is the most important step) Then you make darn sure you are in a parking area where you can see the gravel or pine bark very easily--- Next, you HAVE to get that coil on the ground and sweep it left and right across the lot---(No need to ground balance) When you have a fluid motin going you are doing it right...not too much trash can get built up on the side of the coil or you will miss targets--- Just keep her "low and slow" until you hit something with the coil that looks like plastic----- could be a kids toy car or something!!! WHen you do that you know you are doing it right... You really never know what you may find in a parking area...it may even be something you have been looking for for a long time... something you may have even forgotten about , like that dirty baby diaper you stepped on when getting out of the truck in a hurry one day!!!!-- If you follow these settings you may very well find another one of these--I have found many! The other good points are that with those two batteries out she will run SUPER SMOOTH....no need to GB or fool around with all those pesky sensitvity buttons...Just turn her on and get to sweeping,,,, Let me know how you do...I think this set up will work as a universal setting on ALL detectors--from the 10 dollar ones to the 10 thousand dollar ones.... So have fun and get the plastic!!!! plastic paul
  9. Maiden voyage on a borrowed Etrac... I can see where it would be deadly on coins.... Plastic rings too!! :-)
  10. It is a snowflake ring and I know it had to be in a box of Cracker Jack's... Enjoy....lolol
  11. Jewelry find! Got 46 cents and my first ever RING!!!! Pictures to follow...
  12. Looks like he is doing pretty good to me.... and comfortable doing it.... Different strokes for different folks..... paul
  13. Sounds like a good idea for me----- I have a few cardiac issues and more than too much weight on my bones,,,so crawling in and out of canyons may get the better of me one day----- But i look at it two ways--- 1- Maybe i would get the treatment needed to keep me prospecting for years to come---or 2- Maybe i would never be able to prospect again if i did come out alive---- soooooooooo...should i push the talk button or not,,,lol I always said i would rather check out falling face first into a dig hole with a 4 ouncer in my hand and a big grin on my face--- than in a nursing home with a bib on........ I realize it is probably a good thing for most to have---me included-- but being a nurse i see the other side of the "quality of life" issue that makes me never want to be long term care patient... After all that is said i think the iridium sounds the best.--I also think HAM radio is good. paul
  14. The pictures i took of the topo quads this week with my Samsung Note4 at UNR came out 'WAY' better than expected. I can actually zoom in on them and am able to read them quite well. This will work for reference and I am going to try the overlay to google earth when I get a chance like the Library Meister showed me... Enjoying the process!! Snowing here now, so we will concentrate on ring hunting for awhile..... why the lakes are down around the ski areas.... paul [sure would be nice flying in to those areas that are so close to me as the crow flies , but many hours to drive to them]
  15. I chatted with the library meister at UNV today and he took time to show me google earth and mixing it up with BCN,,, Overlaying is the neat thing...i didnt know topos (and all kinds of other things) can be overlayed on GE.... we did one example of a topo overlayment onto GE ...and i was hooked.... ARCGIS is way out of my league..2500.00 yr for 5 person subscrition! ... i think using BCN in the field as my moving map....and when i get home, adding all my data for the day back to GE i should be OK---- as long as they are not giving the data to everyone!!! thx again all ! This is fun stuff... paul
  16. That's a help to me to see the day by day usage in the field and at home. All these comments help make mms usage a practical application for me. I look forward to getting started.! :-) Paul
  17. That makes sense.... Thanks to all for your input---- Seems like when i get out of data coverage i lose my maps in BCN --- i must not have them downloaded properly to my phone.... maybe only on my computer at home... I like to know where i am at all times and the tracking program for android is good----i do enjoy the versatility of a full sized map when i am making notes----I can look at the map and then scan the area around me and get a better feel for where i am..... (old school army stuff) actually i learned orienteering in the Boy Scouts--and it helped me later in the Army... Holy samoly...there are a zillion GIS programs,,,, could you narrow it down for me GH? Thx again!
  18. Jasong i have and BCN and it does work fine for marking POI etc... i thought maybe i was missing something--- I have a problem when in the field getting orientated with a 5.5 inch phone screen ... so i am going to go to Mackay School of Mines tomorrow to the map dept downstairs, and make me some good laminated waterproof topos!!! i would like to be able to use a claims map layer on the BCN and use it while moving ,,along with a geology and a wet area overlayer----- i guess i want Footprints on android...lol
  19. Im a ghost already Michel...lol im probably safer in the air than on a dirt bike!!!! Oh and I am the medic....i will have my aid bag with me! And an eperb!!!! lolol
