  1. Welcome to the forum, please share future finds. You live in an area rich with history, hats off to you. Welcome aboard, Paul
  2. Welcome to the forum, and congrats with ordering the Manticore. Don't personally have one, but a couple of friends of mine use them and both give positive reviews. Looking forward to viewing future finds of yours, enjoy and please share future finds and adventures. Paul
  3. I still have at least one Coin Magnum George, George Payne model. Was not fortunate to have one at the beginning and actually picked one up many years later, a mint one like yours. If memory serves me right, this was the first actual Ground Balance metal detector. If I'm wrong, please someone correct me. George Payne, Brilliant pioneer. Paul
  4. Nice George, Barons are a rare find. Glad to see you still have yours. Mine are boxed up somewhere, hopefully get them unpacked someday see what survived the move. Honestly don't remember what's left, coils, modules etc? Stay active old friend, Paul
  5. Nice,. I was fortunate to have an Outlaw for a short period. Very good grab and go model, I feel you'll enjoy the Outlaw it's one of the better models. Congrats! Paul
  6. Very nice, And congratulations completing the set with this recent 1946 dime. Canadian coins are neat, here in California I've only dug a few but each one was a special find. Congrats again! Paul
  7. Thanks Carl, Appreciate you pointing out C59 and C60, it's use. And indeed, C50 was to short the capacitor, an era on my part not grounded as I had suggested. Thanks again, Paul
  8. Thanks Pi-Man, If I come across more information, will share. Definitely, I wish you and others had the opportunity having a phone conversations or two over the phone with Reg. Truly, A remarkable individual. I enjoyed the many conversations with Reg, not only metal detecting related but also involvement with helping his employers succeed with Regs equipment modifications. Good luck, enjoy and have an adventurous journey scraping coil the soil. Paul
  9. That's terrific Snake Jim sending off your modded TDI to Carl, he's probably the most qualified we have around for future TDI advancements. Based from reviewing notes, reading TDI Mods related threads and opening up my TDI this morning for a look. Unfortunately, Forgot a lot from my conversations with Reg on the TDI Mods. What I will share, is what I remember and it's not much. First, Rick Kempf sold me his modded TDI. Over the years have purchased several great deals from Rick. Great individual, very fortunate he passed the TDI to me. Soon afterwards, On a phone conversations with Reg, he mentioned the changes on the TDI and that he was having a friend do the mods for him. Later, Noticing two mods where missing, I called Reg back and unknown to him these mods had not been completed. Apparently, his friend had not added these additional mods. However, it may be due to location as some areas these two additional mods are not needed. That was both Reg and myself feeling on the matter, no harm done Regs friend made that decision as he probably felt certain areas didn't need these additional mods. Later, Reg sent me the two needed capacitors to replace the original two and instructed me how to perform the third mod. Capacitors C59 & C60 need to be replaced with 104J/RS. I believe this was to bring regular TDI filtering up to speed with Pro model. Please don't quote me on this, but I think that was the reasoning for replacing these two capacitors. And capacitor C50 needs to be grounded, However, I'll need to double check this as I believe it was capacitor C50. Please no one ground this capacitor until I double check it. Grounding this capacitor eliminates a filter in which increases Gain. With this, user can reduce gain 15-20 percent bringing gain back to normal when needed. What I did, was add a switch in which turns off the modded gain with a flip of a switch. Regs mod is a work of art, and afterwards calibrated to ensure mod is working peek performance. The PCB trace mod is labor intense, $125.00 was a steal. Regs friend was very professional, very skilled. We were very fortunate Reg had a friend do his mods for him towards the end, we all know Reg towards the end couldn't solder with a steady hand and I believe his vision had given in as well. Will enclose a few pictures of my opened TDI, I did add in an inline PI probe with a switch between both coil connectors. The added switch on top with the added Gain switch for the Gain mod, no need to add a switch just grounding the capacitor is enough. My apologies for rambling on so long, hope the pics show Paul (CA)
  10. You bet Jim! I'll definitely take good care of the TDI, very fortunate to have one with the mods. Definitely share more when time allows, with information from my notes and email conversations with Reg. Have a good day sir! Paul
  11. Absolutely, I'll dig up what I have and share on this thread. May take a while, things are boxed up and I'll need to go through email with Reg. Recently, Moved to a town next door and currently selling my house. Luckily found a buyer and should close excrow tomorrow, guess the house sold at the right time, higher interest rates have slowed down sale of homes. Had to reduce house 10% since listing two months ago, I was extremely Lucky to get a buyer especially with what's to come. Give me some time to adjust with the moving, everything is still boxed up notes and such. I do look forward to metal detecting again someday, especially with the TDi for old park hunting. Take care, Paul
  12. I was very fortunate to have many TDI phone conversations with Reg, Reg helped me (with information) add two mods to my TDI. Originally, Purchased the modded TDI from Rick AZ. I've owned a TDI before, but never with Regs mods. Reg shared with me, due to his health his hands could no longer do the finer component soldering. He had a friend, do several of the mods for customers. Unknown to Reg, sometimes not all the mods where completed. I believe three components had to be changed, can't remember what they are I would need to locate my notes and go through email from Reg. My TDI only had one mod, after opening the housing noticed this. The one mod it did have, was the added mini board. Again, I will need to locate my notes and go through email from Reg to fully understand the other missing mods. None the less, with Regs help over the phone he explained to me what I needed to do with adding the additional mods. Later, I had mentioned to Reg was trying to add an online probe to the TDI. After many attempts, Gave up. Continuous falsing was occurring when flipping from coil over to online probe, was a nightmare. Then, Reg laughed and said I can help. He explained I needed to add a certain range ohm resistor across certain coil connector pins. That fixed my inline probe issue, when flipping over from coil to inline probe the inline probe operated fantastic no more falsing. Okay, Now to park silver hunting. Using various Minor John coils, small elliptical to larger coils the TDI operated fantastic as a deep silver detector. I did find a method to help reduce digging false signals. I shared this with Reg, Explained it was combination of reducing GB, lifting coil an inch or two while swinging and there was a third step can't quite remember exactly what it was. I'll need to test a buried high conductive target (silver dime) to figure out what that third step was. Just know this method greatly reduced false digging. Plus, I use a Periscope that also helped reduced false digging. I realize this is getting long toothed, just wanted to share how fortunate I was having Regs help and his phone call fellowship conversations. My days of metal detecting are on hold, for now that is. Caring for an elderly parent, retired this year and my mother suffered a stroke. Fortunately, in the position to care for mom. I'm now her full-time care provider, enjoying every moment. Happy hunting, Paul
  13. Nice Steve, Agree with Valens, Couldn't have happened to a better guy. This silver was the icing on the cake, made the trip even better. Solf/low high tone was a sneaky surprise 👍
  14. I feel gold will continue to drop up into early 2023, how much impossible to say. Maybe another 10-15% maybe even 20%, Flatten out for a period then take off. Just retired this past April, will make it a point to visit more often this is an interesting thread. Lots of good information, appreciate everyone's input. Paul
  15. Hello Jim Welcome to the Tarsacci forum, and Congratulations with the nice finds you’ve made throughout your detecting career. Good informative information left here for you to go over, I’ll add a couple more from my experience with using the Tarsacci. Little over two years now with using the Tarsacci, it’s my main land detector for relic hunting. Especially now, with the 12” coil it’s added more depth. Plus, The 12” coil is great in areas laced with iron. I’ll never go back with the stock coil, 12” coil is that good. Has a tough language learning curve, have patience eventually it’ll all piece together. Some prefer Disc mode, others Mix mode and some All-Metal mode, I prefer Mix mode, more audio information and little more depth. It’s no Deus for tough iron laced sites, but the Tarsacci will hold its own in areas thick with iron. Actually, under some conditions the Tarsacci will punch extremely deep in an iron patch getting a deep target beyond the reach of a Deus or Equniox. I still use the Deus as it has its place, had no more use for the Equniox and gave it to a friend. This week, did a comparison between my GPX 5000 with 11DD coil and Tarsacci with 12” coil, soil is slightly mineralized and away from iron. Tarsacci fared extremely well, GPX has about 1” inch more depth on high conductive coin size targets. On buried nickel’s, GPX slightly deeper about 2” inches deeper. From my experience, no other detector I’ve owned including the Equniox comes close. Good luck, whatever you decide plenty of Tarsacci users out there to lend you a helping hand if you decide to purchase the Tarsacci. Paul
  16. If only those buttons could share a tale or two, I would sit and listen with open ears. You definitely earned these terrific finds. Congratulations! Paul
  17. Good review Dave, I know the MDT was a loner, you probably need more time with the Tarsacci to get more familiar with its settings. In regards to the Tarsacci with 12” coil not responding to the gold chain as well as the Equniox, if possible try not to use Black sand mode. Tarsacci should have hit that gold bracelet, if the Equniox can get it so should the Tarsacci. Plus, shift over to 18khz if wet sand allows. Hope you eventually get an MDT, with 12” coil it’s a great unit with terrific stability. Recently, I gave my Equniox to a friend. Tarsacci in my area and type of inland hunting, Equniox never could fare as well as the Tarsacci. Good luck! Paul
  18. Good informative ground tracking video Aaron, I never used tracking and in fact wasn’t aware of the 40 +/- spread. Going to try tracking on my next Tarsacci relic hunt outing, looking forward to trying it out. Good job! Paul
  19. Good informative video Aaron, a reminder for those not familiar with older silver coins or buttons having lower conductively. Here on West Coast, some of the reales I’ve dug over the years conductively vary especially the tiny 1/4 reales. Deep old worn thin sliver will is hard to get especially masked by iron, shifting to higher kHz helps enhance the signal on these small worn coins or small buttons with lower conductivity. With the Tarsacci, I’m after these smaller worn out coins and buttons. Always hunt with 18k setting, coupled with the 12” coil it’s extremely deep. I can’t get the myself to use Disc mode, the audio mostly steers me away. Mix mode is terrific for my type of hunting, maybe on my next hunt will try Disc mode and give it a fair amount of time. Good informative video Aaron, Paul
  20. Nice find, Tarsacci is great on thin silver coins or worn out buttons. I use 18k mode when relic hunting, tends to enhance signal on worn thin silver coins, 1/2 dimes and worn silver reales. Conductively is lower on older small silver coins or brass buttons, Especially the tiny ones. 18k will enhance these signals, give it a try. Congratulations! Paul
  21. I probably have what you’re looking for Steve, I’ll dig out a box of material stored away. Will get back with you this week, has all the Compass models of that GoldScanner era in a colorful catalog booklet 🙂
  22. Congratulations Chuck! Take your time learning the MDT, has a tough learning curve mostly with the audio language. Don’t let this learning curve discourage you, patience is key eventually it’ll all fall in place. I see you ordered the lager coil, that’s good you don’t need the stock coil. If you get in trouble with the settings, Aaron will help you. Don’t hesitate to call him for help or support, Same with other Tarsacci users out there, we’ll do our best to help. I’m just now getting back to swinging the Tarsacci, took time off for two knee replacements. It’ll be a little while longer to detect for long periods, until then just take the the Tarsacci out maybe 20-40 minutes if that. Usually, I sit and rest and enjoy the sites. Have patience, enjoy the learning process especially the audio. For inland, highly recommend Mix mod. Don’t give up, it’s a long learning process might as well turn it onto a positive experience. Congrats Chuck! Paul
  23. I’m seeing the same with using the 12” coil, better stability. Can run full sensitivity with 12” in open inland areas, Before with stock couldn’t operate at max. Mix mod is deeper than all-metal mode, have a shield nickel buried at 14.5” inches at a test bed in an actual 1850 relic site. Tarsacci with 12” coil gets it both directions using mix mode and I’m not talking iron audio only it’s both conducive and iron audio, switch to all-metal it’s very faint to almost not there. I don’t care for discrimination mode, it’ll detect the 12.5 buried shield nickel but really don’t care for the short target response. My opinion, using disc mode one can easily miss a deep target, audio response is to narrow kind of like a chirp. Mix mode is definitely my favorite, 12” coil is a winner. Will never slap on the stock coil again, 12” definitely deeper and operates with higher sensitivity. Separation, fantastic! Paul
  24. I’ve been waiting for a lighter Minelab GPX model with discrimination, mainly for relic hunting. When I first read about Minelabs new 6000 model, assumed it had discrimination. As more information rolled out, It was disappointing to see that was not the case. I hope Boykin is right, Maybe we’ll see a discrimination model in the future. Would like to see a future GPX model similar to the GPX 6000, same performance only with a discrimination feature and same type handle/battery setup. Most relic hunters using the GPX 5000 for relic hunting will make the switch I know I will, Guess my GPX 5000 will still be my main relic detector. Good work on the Forum Steve! Paul
  25. Just read the email, definitely exciting news! America made will continue, All the best to Ken and Mary, and the staff. I hope many of its employees carry over, they will need them. Terrific news! Paul
