    Amen Lacky,

A little late on this post, but just joined in October!

I have a special needs teenage son and agree with your statements about cost! The Nox 800 was a high dollar item for me! Unless i strike it rich with the lottery, or on the Treasure Coast detecting; ( highly unlikely on both) which is 100 miles away, and not a regular drive for me! Than i will probably never spend that much again! Not only am i retired, but have a daughter in an arts college $$$! And i will have a life long dependent ( my son) living with me and my wife for life! 💑 👩‍🎓🤷‍♂️

Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't change a thing if i could! (Except the lottery winning, and treasure finding part) I'm just happy i have some time to detect, and would love my son to join in at some point if he's willing and interested! (Very little so far; Patience is not his virtue)LOL🤯

Joe, it was strange but one of the hardest things to wrap my mind around was the fact that the whole "getting all the kids raised and moved out and retiring" had just gone away. It's fine now, but at the time I really struggled to wrap my mind around it and adjust. It basically morphed into I don't have any big retirement goals now. I take my adventures where and when I can and don't have big delayed plans waiting on retirement. I still have some dreams (altered somewhat to match current reality) but mostly I assume I'll pretty much be doing what I do now. That's fine, I'm happy.

  2. By the way Erik, definition of terms in gold mining, because they aren't obvious.

Fine gold=small gold peices, large gold peices would be "coarse gold".

Free gold=gold in its elemental form, not combined with other minerals in a sulfide. You can get free gold out just by crushing the rock and panning. Sulfides require a chemical process to separate the gold.

  3. Erik, with the mention of the fine free gold in the ore you might want to pan in the creek some. If you find pin head size specks of gold fairly easily panning and no gold with multiple tries detecting it is possible the gold formed in tiny little flakes in the ore and there are no large pieces. Some places are like that. There are more areas around me with only small gold than there are areas with detectable gold. I can get gold in nearly every pan, it's just really tiny.

  4. I looked it over. It goes in a direction I wasnt expecting. He/she is thinking along the lines of an automated nugget searching machine, think hunting dog that finds and points the bird for you. Honestly the questionnaire isn't great.  You dont know enough yet to ask the right questions.  The concept is interesting though, and you have some of the most experienced folks in the world on this forum. I think you should forget the survey for now and start a new thread laying out the basic idea and asking for input, why it would or wouldn't work, the challenges involved,  the most Iikely approach,  etc. If you make the topic interesting enough and the thread takes off you will get more and better info than you are imagining. It would likely need to dig and verify gold to be of much benefit,  as we spend most of our time digging trash targets. I'll start you off with that tidbit.

We get lots of folks that stop in and ask one question and sometimes never even return to read the answers. Show people your really interested and are sticking around and it will help.

Yes, Dilek has offered to ship one to me direct from the factory for the RRP + Shipping, and Phase Technical has offered to do the same from OZ.  It's cheapest to get it off Phase Tech due to the shipping cost from Turkey to NZ.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a new legit dealer in NZ by next year now that you've brought the situation to her attention. Well done all around.

Well Minelab once again won the battle in my noggin, I ordered a Vanquish 540 Pro Pack.  I couldn't let that 8x5" coil go as it's the only one I wanted and I am betting as an accessory coil it'll cost a lot more than getting it this way.  It even comes with a free Vanquish T-shirt, short or long Sleeve.

I'll still need to get a Simplex to compare them as I don't want to die wondering.  😀  addicted.

I'm going to have to kick the Go-Find off my little sidebar to the left to fit the Vanquish, worst item gets the boot.

    <----- bye bye Go-Find.

Any progress on the simplex situation? I want you to get one too. I get to benefit from your addiction without spending or doing anything. It's a nice situation for me.

  7. I'm a kind of person that is pretty immune to that. I have multiples of some things because I am bad at getting around to selling stuff, not from chasing the shiny new thing. I have one good fly rod, one good big game rifle, one good bow, etc. I have a 20 yo bow the 6 yo bow replaced, but that's just laziness.  Eventually I'll come across some kid needing one and give it away.

With the equinox I dont have any real urge to buy anything else. I probably won't for a long time. All my cars are 15 yo+ too though. I just dont get the same thrill buying things that most people get. Not sure if that makes me lucky or unlucky. Once I have one good tool to pursue whatever hobby I'm pretty much done.
