  1. Interesting, I hadn't considered un-ground balancing it. I assumed that would make hitting the ground worse. I'll definitely play around with that idea. Thanks!
  2. Yep, auto ground balanced and tracking on in gold mode, auto ground balanced in park mode. Sensitivity has little effect. I've lowered it to under 10 and the knocking didn't go away. I assumed dealing with the knocking was the better choice.
  3. Question for you Steve (or anyone else). I don't have a 6" coil yet so have been using the 11" for everything, including nugget hunting. I have had very noticeable coil knock on all the gold field areas I have gone to. I don't even need to tap the ground, tapping a twig is enough for a signal. The detector is still working well as I still recover small bullet fragments. I've gotten pretty good at sensing when I have touched anything and just brain filtering those signals. My questions are: 1. Is have this much knock sensitivity hurting me in some way, as in is the detector so far out of tune that it isn't working as well as it could. 2. If that is the case what should I try to eliminate it. I already picked up to adjust recovery speed, but I am already using stock gold 1, so not lots of room to increase there. It really isn't hard to ignore the knock signals so if just ignoring them is best I have no problem with that.
  4. Fwiw it's mostly rock garden type yard in Vegas with a small to tiny grass area in part of the back yard from what I've seen.
  5. My God, why in the world are you getting rid of all that, then buying a bigger home, that needs even more filling up? It might be time to go on a consumerism diet! Make deals. "If we get a smaller house and buy less stuff we could go on foriegn holidays every year with the money we save."
  6. Yeah, my wife keeps the economy ticking along just fine too.
  7. I'd look to get the same size house (or smaller if you had kids get grown) at half the price, but that's just me. Everyone can't be like me though or the economy would grind to a halt.
  8. Yeah, Garrett pays for a youtube/tv presence, but they seem to be the only ones that do. (Assumption on my part, but I think a pretty safe one)
  9. I dont see how it can go wrong. All it has to do is say yes there is gold. How could you possibly prove there ISN'T gold in a 10km by 75 meter down radius. If you complain they can just say "trust us, it's there you just have to find it!" Perfect product, assuming it finds some fish, and it probably will. I'm dying to know what the included anti fraud check is.
  10. I'm basically on the other side of the fence on this one. All my earbuds and quality over ear headphones are 3.5mm, as I imagine most none detector ones are. Computers, phones, music players, etc have all been 3.5mm for, well, basically forever. I'd have to go back to stereo systems 20+ years ago for any piece of gear I had that used a 1/4 plug other than the other detector I have. I like being able to plug earbuds and standard 3.5mm headphones directly into the 800 or the WM-08 and have them just work. It vastly increases my affordable options as I dont have to buy "detecting headphones" which are much more expensive, as any specialized, small market item is. I do understand the frustration of people that have already spent $100+ on detecting specialty headphones, but the rest of us can get comparable quality for half the price or less with the 3.5mm.
  11. I haven't lived in Vegas but spent a month or so each year there for about 7 years. It's kinda nice in that if you avoid the strip it's like any other city, and the now and then you want to hit a show or something the casinos are right there. It is definitely hot in the summer but its dry heat. You could probably be outside comfortably from dawn to 11 or noon even on the hot days. I'd be willing to live there if I needed to relocate. I'd certainly prefer it to the bay area. I grew up in Woodland so know Calif too.
  12. Only thing I would suggest is balance the speaking and music volume. The speaking was faint at times so I turned the volume up to make it out then the music would blast the ears a bit.
  13. Nope, never heard about that, but it doesn't surprise me. We used to travel from Idaho to California once or twice a year to visit family. Winnemucca was the logical rest stop for gas and food. Like I said, it just felt a bit off.
  14. And yes, Winnemucca is a bit odd, not so much now but 40 years ago it had a weird vibe to it. Jordan Valley kind of fits that mold too.
  15. Valen, isn't it amazing how some hours on the detector fixes most of the problems? My first hour on the 800 I was a mess. Couldn't figure out or understand anything. After about 10 hours I pretty much had the basics down and was starting (barely) to feel like I understood what it was trying to tell me and was starting to learn how to adjust settings for certain conditions. Every hour since has just been growing more comfortable, but those first 10 hours or so were a big adjustment. It would probably be better if they came locked in a beginner mode for the first 10 hours of use with sensitivity set at 10 in park 1, then every 5 hours of use unlocks a new feature. Just commenting because you seem to have followed the same path and gotten over the hump too.
  16. I rarely get around to taking pictures, but this gives me a reason to do better. I'll have some next time I drive to a cool place (lots of them in Idaho)
  17. I went out a few days ago with the plan to detect creek that had a 1800's mine in the drainage. Saw this when I got there I admit that probably wouldn't have stopped me but I couldn't even crawl in the creek bed much less swing a coil. So I decided to drive around to the top of the drainage and try and find the mine. Found it after hiking about half a mile and dropping down 800 feet. I felt good about that because I fail to find mines at least as often as I do find. The advent of Google earth has helped a ton. I really didn't know what to do with it after I found it though. I detected around where the tunnel used to be and dug bullet prices and junk, then dropped down to the dry creek and did the same before the long climb back out. We shoot way to much in Idaho. I find bullets everywhere I go. That's my typical wandering around outing. Its not surprising I don't find gold. I mostly went there because there were no current claims anywhere close. Hard to end up on anyone's claim if there are none!
  18. Earbuds usually work well for those situations, at least for me. You can pick up wireless aptx low latency ones for $30-$40. The regular wired ones work fine with the equinox too.
  19. If you haven't found it already this page has TONS of good info You've come to the right place, this forum is full of nice helpful people.
  20. Main reason I could see it being a useful feature is if you are detecting strips pushed or dug with machinery. I guess if detecting with a young child. Other than that I'd rather be by myself.
  21. I used it two weeks ago when I took my daughter out so she could hear it with me. I agree I wont use it often, but it would bug me if it wasn't there.
  22. I like it. I know I for one find far more scenery than I do gold!
