I don't think I've ever seen so much lead in one hunt! No wonder you had to keep emptying your pouch! Congrats on the coin and jewelry count. Glad you got some gold for all the work!

New Hunting Setup Brings Some More Pieces
okara gold replied to Skull diver's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Here were a couple of methods I used to get into 2 small beaches once the gate was locked at the end of season. The year was 2011.- 12 replies

56 Rings In 4 Days!! Amazing New Washout
okara gold replied to TTT2866's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Wow! That's incredible! Big congratulations on all those excellent finds! -
This is on page 61 of the Manticore instruction manual. Tracking Ground Balance is the default and recommended Ground Balance method for Beach Surf & Seawater mode and Goldfield General mode. It effectively manages the constantly changing conditions in saltwater and mineralised goldfield soils. I have been playing around with the setting and when in the salt water it seems to smooth out the constant changing conditions of the sandy bottom. Sweep speed is very important. As the manual states... it is the default and recommended GB method for Beach Surf & Seawater.

Your photos are really distinct. What are you using for a camera to get those close ups? Thanks

Wow! You really killed it out there with all that great jewelry. And the junk to jewelry ratio doesn't get much better than that!

For sure... I would never throw that one into the melt pile. There must be a Nancy out there somewhere that just has to have that ring. lol

That's perfect! I hereby declare that we are now the founding fathers of the 333 Club. Any other members out there? LOL Nice looking ring!

Relative Newby Finds Personal Best 19.6 Gram Nugget
okara gold replied to Dutchman4's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Nice chunky piece! Congratulations! Now to break that record!! -
Thanks Joe. I was wondering if you ever found a low karat. I have found only one 9k ring in all my years of doing this.
-
Thanks! I got a 9k this year with the Manticore. Its ID was a 61. I was sure it was another penny.

It's always fun to find them. Here's one I found with a metal detector a couple years ago. I had to really laugh when I saw that in the scoop! Couldn't believe it!

Thanks 350! I never heard of 8k gold until I looked it up and sure enough it's the real deal. Going out again in the morning in a different direction. Water hunting has been poor to say the least so I'm staying dry for awhile.

I'm still hunting the eroded areas from our last hurricane Idalia but the sand is filling things in. Found this little medal weighing 1.2 grams about 8 inches deep. It depicts the Gemini Twins and is marked on the upper backside tab 333 FB. After doing some research, I read it is 8 karat gold that is used primarily / solely in Germany. I guess the US and other countries do not use such a low karat gold in jewelry making. I have never found 8k before and was wondering if anyone else has ever found such a low gold content item? Almost all the coins I found were greenies so I'm not surprised the medal is tarnished and pitted with green as well. Such a great hobby, this treasure hunting. Ya never know what's out there!

Congratulations on your first gold of the season! That beach looks really inviting and sure to hold some goodies. I'd be hunting it until I forced it to give up some gold! ๐

I run the same settings as TampaBayBrad and have found the prospecting audio to be the best for my ears. It is a sharp sound whenever it hits on non-ferrous metal and being in the soft Florida sand makes recovery easy to do and I don't have to give too much thought / decision to dig a target. This stainless-steel chain with a sterling medal gave a mixed sort of sounds and came out about 8 inches deep in the wet salt sand. The earring is 925 and the ring copper. I have found around 5 gold chains, nothing big, using these settings and lots of steel chains. Will post some pics when I get them together. If anything sounds close to being good and occasionally the iron grunts...I dig it

Wet Sand, Salt Beach Jewelry Hunting
okara gold replied to fishersari's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
I think you are doing everything right to find the chain. I crank up sensitivity as best as I can and hunt very slow around the area the pendant was found. Those chains are elusive!! Good Luck! -
That big gold ring is a real beauty and 18K...WOW

Hurricane Idalia Gold... Part 2
okara gold replied to okara gold's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Thanks for figuring out the CD ring. I've got a feeling it's plated, just doesn't have the look of solid gold. On to the next!
