  1. 100% agree with that statement as I have worked on tons of electronics in my lifetime.
  2. The last time I used those I had problems with them and decided to make my own. I know mine are not the best looking, but they work for me and my situation when I am running a sluice. There have been a lot of nice things posted here on this thread.
  3. Maybe a group of fake jelly fish that float on top of the water would be better. Great hunt and some very nice gold for you. Good luck on your next hunt and happy hunting.
  4. Very nice find, hope you preserve it with great care. Good luck on your next hunt.
  5. I worked on a laptop last year that had a problem with a chip that out of the blue would cause all types of problems. You could never know if or when it would act up until I used some cooling freeze on the part, then it finally showed the bad component. With today's electronics you never know what is going to happen in the factory on how each part is made. That is why there are so many break downs now. Cheap, poor quality parts, and the people who makes them gets rich.
  6. Time for me to sell some of my coins, I paid a lot less than that 25 years ago. Glad to see the price going up right now and I will have to get rid of about 50 coins. Thanks for the information Steve!
  7. I believe that the one you found is about 4 inches wide in the middle section, if so that is where they would place a wood or metal bar so 2 people can lift the box when fully loaded. When they mounted your type the hinge was put on with the handle because most of them were a different size. The type of box that handle is intended for is a heavy load box, they also used them for some types of ammo at the time. That is why it has the double hand grip on it so they could use it different ways. Some of those also had a brass covering on them that would say US or almost anything else. Should you have the complete piece with the overlay I know someone who would love to have it for his collection.
  8. Glad to hear it, and I am out of likes but will came back when I get more.
  9. Out here in the middle of nowhere there are very few places to go swimming, however we do have several areas that the people would set up a moving bar when it was illegal to have alcohol. When I am able to detect again a friend is going to take me to those sites. There were people who drove 50 miles to visit them when they knew where they would be at. There has also been wrecks that involved money from some old brinks trucks. They spilled a whole bunch of coins (dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollar coins) from the early 1900's. Most of the ponds that were used for swimming are long gone and nobody knows exactly where they were. I am in central Illinois south of Springfield and there is only old schools and churches. Some of the old parks are gone and new ones built. I got lucky when I bought my place as it was once the oldest church in the county. There is so much trash in my yard it would take several years to clear it all out. This place has been 4 different churches and a Masonic Lodge since 1853. Good luck and keep up the great hunting.
  10. Sad to hear about his passing and wish him luck on detecting in heaven. Prayers to his family and friends for I know he will be missed by many.
  11. Great job Jim glad to see someone else besides OBN getting the good stuff. Happy hunting and good luck on your next hunt.
  12. Great hunt and nice job on your skills to locate those items. Wish there was a place around here for someone like me to find things like that. Happy hunting and good luck. PS. Should a place like that exist around here please stay away.
  13. Fantastic find and I hope you find several more and some gold ones also. Good luck and happy hunting.
  14. That is a portion of a adjuster for a strap that is for either a rifle or powder box. The larger item is from an old style payroll box, here is a fancy box with a similar handle. The item that you have is probably from a stage coach style box used in transferring money.
  15. I have a set almost like that also that I made, try to place a slot almost to the top with a screen so that you can set it in the running water and I think you will like it. I stack 2 or 3 inside the main bucket hold the handle and dunk it into the moving water so that I can shake it back and forth. The smaller gold settles into the bottom of the bucket which I made sure there is 2 inches of depth to hold the gold securely. Just a thought for you to try. I will try to dig it out and show some pictures.
  16. What criminals won't do to peoples property, this is a time for private security to clean up the problem.
  17. I will be updating mine as soon as I hear some feedback from those who have tried it. If it is good I will do the update, if it makes no difference Why should I.
  18. Great idea as I am tired of using some double layer hardware cloth to do that. The wire always gets bent out of shape and I have on occasion lost a piece of gold because of it. Thanks again.
  19. Fantastic hunt, wish I could have been there. Thanks for sharing the photos! Good luck on your next hunt.

  23. To all the people on the forum who has lost a friend this is for you to help with the pain of losing them. This poem helped me after losing my best friend a few years ago. The Rainbow Bridge Poem “Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….” — Author unknown
