  1. Great finds and glad to see you back again. Recheck around the tree again as I have found some nice items in those same places. They were deep, and some were in the roots of the tree. Good hunting your next time out.
  2. Fantastic hunt with some really nice coins and finds, great job! Hope your next hunt is as good as this one was.
  3. Glad to get this information, thanks for sharing as I am planning to get back out there next week. My neck injury has taken a toll on me, and I am glad to be feeling better now. So I am reading more information on here and taking notes because it has been to long. Thanks
  4. How big of a sluice are you wanting to make? I would start with that first and then the mat would fill the inside except for the funnel top section. For the top I would look at the standard Keene sluice and make it like that with the rubber mat at the funnel. Place your insert inside the remainder of the sluice. Something about 1 1/2 meters long should work for the creeks where you are at. Make the sluice out of aluminum including the funnel for ease of carrying to your location. Most small sluices are about .15 meters wide with others about .254 meters and they do a great job. I have made standard sluices from wood and metal and have had good luck with them. I would like to hear how yours works when you make it. I do like the design of what you have so I will watch this thread for your reply.
  5. Very nice piece that you are holding and a very nice find. I would be willing to bet that the person who is actually looking in the field known for gold will be the one who finds it. Some people will research an area, but that does not tell you just how many others have already been there and done that on that piece of ground. Should you have an idea of where it is at like the old prospectors did then you will find more. Good luck and happy hunting. Make sure you carry plenty of detectors and keep them cool in the heat. If not just say the word and I will help you as much as I can. You won't have to worry about the gold you find as I will keep it safe and sound. I promise it will be safe, just keep repeating that to yourself when making a decision on who you pick to help carry your finds.
  6. Congrats on the hunt, very nice old coins in that bunch you found. Good luck on your next hunt!
  7. I do the same thing and it works just fine. There is some black sand on the shores up there, but all I have ever found was flour gold there. Make sure you adjust your iron bias to your choosing and then ground balance.
  8. Does that include the coins. On second thought you better keep them and build them up for another time.
  9. Great finds, and a nice pencil topper with only one piece missing. On the back you have a rounded hole for the pencil to fit in it is what gave it away. Early 1930-1940 vintage piece. Good luck on your next hunt!
  10. Nice finds, but if you think that is junk just send it to me. Good luck on your next hunt!
  11. I purchased mine at Rural King, and it works well without adding any Deet. Just make sure you stay in the percentages I mentioned and you will be O.K.
  12. That is really good news, I wish they would reorganize and stay in business.
  13. I can now see the coin better, but in the first one it looked different from the other ones for sure. Sorry for getting your hopes up for a let down.
  14. My brother and I did when he lived in Hermistan, OR. and had no problems when the game warden came by. He told us that people do it all the time, but we needed to clean up the area like it was before we got there.
  15. Good find and good research on the lock. You could be correct on the buckle also, that would have been my first guess on it.
  16. Did I see a mercury dime in that picture? Nice hunt and good luck on your next one. Stay cool.

Welcome aboard and please feel free to ask questions, and maybe answer a few if you know the answer. Please post some of those finds no matter how odd they may look.
  18. Sorry for that, as I use between .5% to .75% solution. When I used the .5% it seemed that some chiggers did get past it, and then when using the .75% it completely stop all insects from getting through. I find the higher concentration stays on the clothes a little longer and I have had no problems with it. I buy the 10% concentrate bottle.
  19. Great story with a happy ending, I hope he bought you dinner.
  20. Very nice coins, what is the last one shown as I cant make out the date.
  21. Congrats Gerry on those finds and wish you better luck on your next hunt!
  22. I am not sure what roads you would take to get there, we had a bush plane take us there and back to Fairbanks. That saved us a lot of time doing that.
  23. If you have time try your luck at Muldrow Glacier, it is in the Denali National Park. Many years ago I was able to find a few ounces there over about 5 days before I had to go somewhere else. Once again good luck.
  24. I am just 45 minutes from Alton, and believe me there are plenty of mosquito's here. I am out in the country only a mile from a lake with creeks all around me. You are in an area on the gulf next to Biloxi I believe, and you have a few down there. The last time I was in Alaska there was nothing to keep them critters off a person, and all you could do is use netting. Half of the time they would just cut through it and laugh in your face. Good luck and keep an anchor on you in case they try to carry you off.
