  1. Thanks for the rest of the story from a few days ago. Glad to see what he lost has had a happy ending.
  2. A few years ago I started to do the following: Mix as mop bucket about 3/4 full of water Add the correct amount of Permethrin plus another 1/4 of the amount to the water. Then roll up a pair of pants and shirts and place into the water for a couple of hours. Remove and wring out into the bucket then add your hats to do the same. Allow the clothes to drip dry and your done. This procedure will remain on your clothes for about 2 weeks at at time, or through 2 wash cycles, that was all I tried when I was in the woods. Worked great keeping the ticks, chiggers, and other bugs off me. I would wear the same clothes for a couple of days to keep from retreating all the time, but the only person around me at the time was myself. You can always reuse the same water mix if you add a small amount of Permethrin to the added water when it gets a little low.
  3. Yes Simon we do, because mosquito spray just won't work on bears it only makes them mad if you get it in their eyes. Bear spray and air horns for me to use on them and if that isn't enough then the guns.
  4. The half moon is 14 kt. the first letters and numbers are the style number. They were quite common a few years ago, but today still worth some money. I have seen them on Ebay around $150 in the past few months. Great finds and good luck on your next trip out.
  5. I stand corrected, and I also looked at my past notes on what I had stated and I believe you are correct. It does match your item to a T. I am sorry for rushing to a conclusion so fast, as I should have asked questions first. Glad that someone was able to correct me an you found out what it is. Still a nice item!
  6. I forgot to ask, how bad is the rust? Does it still move in a open and close position? Is there any movement on the spike? I think I got it covered now.
  7. That looks like an early 1700's horse shoe puller. You place it around the shoe and drive off the shoe with a hammer. I have not seen them but once before and it sure looks like the same item that I had looked at. Should that be it, it is very hard to find and has some value to it. Great find
  8. What part of the country are you in? Be careful on getting the nox wet, a couple of people on here have had some bad times with water. Good luck on your next outing!
  9. Put it in the tub tonight and do not go real deep in the water. I hope this one doesn't leak because you got me nervous about taking mine to the lake now.
  10. To break the surface tension of water I have always used a drop of Dawn dish soap, and the minor suds will help remove some of the dirt also. Did you use a sluice before panning?
  11. I am going to call every rental place near you and tell them not to rent any mules to you. That is a great place to be hunting with the age and the people who have been around it working. A lot of times I will go to the older churches and football fields nearby to hunt. Good luck!
  12. Nice finds and nice looking. Happy hunting on your next trip.
  13. Most women lose their rings in the water, while it seems the men lose their rings on the land, when doing fresh water areas such as creeks and lakes. Dive into the water and get it for her.
  14. I really can't say any more than what Steve and Willy has already stated except thanks for the videos. Happy hunting.
  15. Congrats on your finds, and good luck on your next hunt. Now all you have to do is to find a nice diamond for your wife.
  16. Good read on your findings and I will keep it mind the next time i get to go hunting. Thanks for the information and the time it took to do it. Happy hunting!
  17. Any time you can get some gold, it has to be a good hunt no matter how little you get. Good luck on your next hunt and charge those batteries.
  18. Great hunt overall and hope you better luck next time.
  19. You have some very lucky customers and thanks for sharing the pics with us as I can only dream about finding something like that around this part of the country.
  20. Glad to hear that you have the instructions for reference on how to operate the unit, as I could not find any material on the internet for it. On the headphone side of things I use earbuds and a adapter on the plug. That way if I only want one of them in my ear to hear for something else I can. Good luck and happy hunting.
  21. The volume might go up with the sensitivity control. Lower tones should indicate gold, iron, and such materials like that, while the higher tones will be silver and such. Try a gold ring on the ground, and then try a silver ring to check the tone difference. Then try the difference between coins, and make sure there is plenty of space between them so you don't overlap. That headphone jack will take an adapter that you can get at Walmart or just about anywhere to use standard headphones. You will get a better sound when you use them.
  22. Check and see if there is a headphone jack on it, if it does you also need a set of headphones to be able to hear the tones. The sensitivity is also the volume control I believe. Almost any headphone wit a 1/4 inch jack will work. Let me know if you see the jack on it, and if you have a set of headphones that will work.
