  1. My patriots have arrived. So far seem sturdy, fit snug next week will break them in while in Mexico and have more feedback then
  2. I just pulled the trigger on the Patriot WP headphones. heading to Cabo in a couple weeks and will try them out and provide some feedback. stay tuned (no pun intended)
  3. Nice gold! ive been to RP 3 times and nothing but lead 😫 I must be doing something wrong
  4. Anyone have input on which of these is better? Plan to do some detecting snorkeling in maybe 6ft of water in Mexico in a couple weeks. Using a Nox 800
  5. No. I didn’t bring a scoop so figured it be too hard. headphones and scoop will be coming along on next trip. Did bring a carrot 🥕 very useful and made finding the targets fast and efficient
  6. Day #2 finds after about 1.5 hrs on the sand. Possibly a silver earring.
  7. Got a good deal on vacation package to Mexico this week so brought my new Nox 800 to use on beach and ocean. This would be my 1st time using the Nox on either beach or in water. Day 1 - initially tried to use the Nox fully submerged in 5ft of water in fairly calm to slightly wavy water. I only lasted 30 minutes before giving up. Lesson learned: * Definitely need to invest in water proof headphones. I thought with mask/snorkel and my head under water I would be able to hear (had volume set to max at 25). I could hear no sounds. * poor visibility also made it challenging - changed to hunting the beach (beach mode 1) and spent maybe 2 hours max on dry fine coral sand. I’ve only used the Nox before a few times on a lake beach with lots of black sand. * great detector! Stable. Was a pleasure to use. * Was able to find the tiniest pieces of foil or random metal size of match head several inches down with sensitive dumbed down to 18-19 * I played around with settings and for me on this beach (1-4” fine white sugar sand on top then hard compact almost concrete like sand/dirt underneath) I liked the lower sensitivity because I wanted to limit picking up targets that were deeper down in the hard layer that I wasn’t going to dig. Sensitive I kept between 18-22 , recovery speed at 5. found a potential gold earring ( have to get home and test it) and some other kind of jewelry think that looks like silver with diamonds (probably aluminum with zirconium). Pics attached of finds (minus the abundance of foil type things I found). Beach is eerily empty for some reason 👀🤔 Will go out again and post any worthy pictures of Day 2 finds tomorrow
  8. Figured skipping those I could avoid wasting time on pull tabs and bottle caps maybe? plan to cover more ground initially then figure I could go back over and then dig the 12, 13, 14 and maybe the -1’s
  9. Heading to Mexico (Riviera Maya) in a couple days (if Coronavirus doesn’t get my Flight cancelled). Plan to use my Nox 800 mainly in the ocean in probably 4-6ft of water. Anyone have any tips or advice on settings and any good experience/finds in this area? I imagine I’ll run it in beach mode 2 and do an auto tune and manual GB once chest deep in the water. Sensitivity I imagine I’ll set to around 19 +/- as needed to stabilize. I’ll ignore everything in the -9 to 0 range and 12, 13 & 14. Threshold 0, recovery speed 5. don’t have a set of waterproof headphones yet so will be running volume on 25. Hope I can hear this. I’ll be snorkeling with head under water. Any good suggestions on waterproof headphones for Nox 800 ?
  10. In a perfect world the claims would all be marked so one would not to avoid them. Ive been to area a couple times, some claims have signs posted for no detecting and "video surveillance" so I avoided those spots, I am sure many claims aren't marked though. Just endless desert as far as eye can see in all directions. Unless there is a easy way to overlay up to date claim lot borders onto a Garmin handheld GPS unit?
  11. Have you tried 8” coil on ATX for beach/water hunting or you prefer the 10x12 DD could?
  12. Thanks Steve. I’ve been leaning towards a ATX with new 11x13DD coils for beach use and maybe in 2-4ft of water. Go to Mexico a lot, will be interesting to see what I find on the beaches
  13. Yeah, I’ve only been out there once but someone told me to be careful because lots of claims out there. Saw some sites were marked off or had a warning sign. Seems many aren’t marked though. Hard to tell which spot is claimed or not.
  14. New here but wondering if anyone here can rate the SDC-2300 with 8” coil as good or better or not as good as the ATX for beach hunting (from fluffy white sugar sands to black sand etc)? I know they are both waterproof and PI’s but is that where similarities end?
  15. I’ll have to get some camouflage then to blend in and keep a low profile. Maybe help me sneak up on a nugget better
  16. Haha, yes sooner then later is good. I think we did meet, you pulled up on the ATV. I'm 6'6", stick out like a sore thumb in the dessert
  17. New to group here and just got a GPX-5000 and spent a few hours yesterday playing with different settings and breaking it in at the Rye Patch. Any suggestions on best settings for Rye Patch ( I used Sen Extra w/ 11" mono, slow and quiet with gain of 12, know of any other areas closer to Reno to nugget hunt then Rye Patch? I tried Gold Canyon in Dayton NV today but that place was filled with trash (I was mainly in the lower section).
