The Funeral Of The Sampson T-handle
Joe D. replied to phrunt's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Well Simon, After reading everyone's comments, I too must admit that mine has bent before! I used a sewer grate on the street near my house, to bend it back! I now am just a little more careful with it! I too, will be replacing mine next year, and relegate that one to garden duty only! On the "glass half full" side of things! Maybe Santa Claus will swing by your house, and drop one down the chimney!๐ Or a manufacturer or two may send you one to demo and keep! You never know!! Especially with all the responses this is getting, they could get some good honest reviews from you! And possibly a new market to sell in NZ! In any case, I wish you an indestructible shovel with the next one!! And if all else fails, i will mail you a gift card for KFC, so you can drown your sorrows in some delicious extra crisp fried chicken, and biscuits with honey... mashed potatoes and gravy...๐(now I'm hungry, damn!)๐คฃ๐๐๐ -
Nice detective work fellas!!๐๐

Weather it's lack of funds, or lack of interest! It's does not boad well, of any manufacturer of any product these days, not to keep up on a "current" website design, and function! It literally should take one person, with the right background and moderate pay, to design and maintain it! They can even be contract labor, and not a permanent employee! (Quite common) And, possibly one or two others, crosstrained, to maintain, and cover the main person/contractor responsible, due to a temporary problem, if unable to contact and fix remotely!! Imo ๐๐

If the truth be told, Spain shouldn't have been awarded the treasure either, as it was all stolen by conquering Spanish, melted down, and turned into coinage and other items, to be brought to the King of Spain! But because it was on a Spanish "War" ship, their "interpretation" of Maritime Law awarded it to Spain, with the help of our courts!! If nothing else, no matter what country it belongs too, the salvagers should get at least half of the value, for finding and recovering any treasure wreck, and leave the other half to be hashed out between whatever countries think they have a claim!! Unless, there was a deal, or collaboration beforehand, on a known location, so that the salvagers were, at least, compensated for their time, and expenses!! There has to be an "Open Market" aspect involved, or else, who would bother to metal detect, if everything found had to be handed over to the government, with zero compensation! Same with Mining, and Fossil hunting! (Other than illegal/black market operations!) And on the archeological side, Museums would be nearly empty, if not for "Treasure" hunters finding most of "their" (publicly & privately funded!!) artifacts in the first place!! Which would also further their purchase from the Black Market, which none will admit to doing (but it happens!!), but all admonish! Including private collectors!! JMO!! I obviously have strong feelings, and support, for both sides! As not only do I want items to be sufficiently profitable (and legal) to discover, but that it is done in a manner to preserve, protect, and learn from those discoveries that are still in context!! As neither side gets anything, when NO discoveries are being made!! ๐๐๐

Cool video MN, That's an amazingly untouched place! I'm sure many of us would be like "kids in a candy store", just like Jeff, with all the old tools and equipment! The fabrication and maintenance building alone, would make one hell of a shop!! And keep me busy for years! Although, all the lead dust may be a problem! Thanks for posting!๐๐

My New Garrett 24k Initial Impressions And Quick Tests
Joe D. replied to phrunt's topic in Garrett Metal Detectors
Glad to hear your are healing well Jeff, But don't go "Full Goat" on us yet, and reinjure yourself!!๐คฃ๐๐ -
That's awesome! Great resource!!๐๐

Geotech, Thanks for the brief rundown and history lesson! I'm guessing you could write a book or two, on the subjects you touched on! I'm also guessing that security product development is not as much fun as the hobby sector, but as with Garrett, it helps pay the bills, and keep them in the game on the hobby side! Thanks again for being here, to give us what information you can! And hopefully, everyone is kind, and doesn't shoot the messanger!!๐๐๐

Couple "aq" Gold's
Joe D. replied to Joe Beechnut OBN's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
The AQ "Bay Fantom" strikes again!๐ฆธโโ๏ธ๐ฅ Joe, it's really getting tough on us, to be creative in saying "Great Job" all the time!!๐คฃ๐๐ -
That's funny that they tilled the same day you mowed! Is there a reason they don't till the circle up too, and make it part of the field? Too hard packed?? I'm sure that you will pick up some more goodies there!!๐๐

Wow!!๐คฏ, that's "fine" gold?? Put those flakes in a bowl, and I'll grab the milk and spoon!!๐๐๐

This case is still a thorn in my backside!!๐ต And obviously, more so to Odyssey Marine, to this day!! I had bought a large; (to me) amount of shares of Odyssey Marine for my kids, long before they found this huge amount of treasure! Than the carpet was pulled out from under them, and us investors, by our own courts!! Unbelievable!! That would have been a huge help for my daughters college fund! Thanks!! ๐คฌUS Courts!!! This, and other more recent discoveries; being awarded to the "country of origin", are the reason why many salvagers have stopped looking for ships in US waters!! Other than Mel Fishers hard won case, and his "secured" leases, the vast amount of other's are out of luck! And those potential discoveries will be left to rot away on the ocean floor, where no one will ever see them!! Including ironically, the archeologists that fight salvage operations, but don't have the funding, resources, or knowledge, to find them in the first place!!๐๐

Sounds like the "Meteor Chasers" guys will be hot on the trail soon enough!! ๐๐
-
Great hunt Joe, Glad to see you're out again! Still kills me to see how crusty the silver gets; just eats them up!! But the class ring looks awesome! Keep up the good work!! And stay safe!!๐๐๐

Yeah, sounds a little hairy! I can't blame you for not stiring the pot!! They may end up "shooting" the messenger! ๐๐๐

I'm out of likes for the moment, but very different items! The three black cats say you will find something good their yet!!๐โโฌ๐โโฌ๐โโฌ๐ I would actually like to know more info on the three that detected there for so long!!? Were they looking for something specific? Is that private property, and if so, the owner should have more information!? Were they local, or from out of town? Someone should have noticed them, and asked questions!? Very curious that they would hit it so hard for that amount of time?? Let us know if you can "dig up" some more info!๐ป๐๐๐

Debt reorganization is probably a more succinct idea! Especially if a company wants to trim excess products that are sinking! And maybe taking the few competing, or upcoming products forward with a new "slim and trim" business model! I hope it works out, whatever their plans are!! I'm no business expert by education, or any other means, but waiting as long as White's did is a "no go"!! Though, I very much wish they had made it through somehow!! But we all know the reality of "wishing in one hand, and spitting in the other"....๐๐๐

Something else that may warrant consideration! Bankruptcy is a business plan! Albeit generally not a good one, but it does have some financial advantages, if done before unrecoverable debt!! Especially after the last two years of Covid changing the marketplace!! I'm not saying that's what is happening here, but it could be a factor going forward, when weighing a product overhaul, against potential returns!!๐๐

Breaking News: Update On 40 Year Search For Gold Ring!
Joe D. replied to Hibernia1776's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Great recovery!๐ฅณ Many would have given up! ๐๐ฅ๐ I'm wondering if maybe it got "planted" deeper when your mom planted the Monkey Grass in that spot! Or possibly there was a lot of earthworm activity and/or mulching of that spot over the years!! Not to mention how a broken ring can give a poor signal!! You can also submit the story to ML, as you also used the Vanqish to help locate it!!๐๐
