Beach Season Has Begun
Joe D. replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
This was yesterday's beach hunt with the 11", and a mushy beach! Those "gold" Stella caps are maddening, and look like gold in the hole!! And the "tiny" targets that fall through the holes are fun too!!π€£ππ- 206 replies

GB, Good points!! I also wonder if ML's bolt/nut combo has too wide a "head" and is the main cause of the failures! I think I will find alternatives to their's that are smaller, and create less pressure on the tabs!!ππ

Plantar Fasciitis, Orπ€¬!! My Heel Really Hurts!!
Joe D. replied to Joe D.'s topic in Detector Prospector Forum
F350, No big deal, but I was more concerned that maybe some people here, may not be aware of this ever becoming an issue! And few will ever have this problem, so it's more of a "heads up" to be aware of!! Sorta like after someone sprains an ankle, it is more prone to happen again, due to weakened tendons and ligaments!ππ -
Plantar Fasciitis, Orπ€¬!! My Heel Really Hurts!!
Joe D. replied to Joe D.'s topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I did the custom orthotics years ago, when I first had this crop up; and was working! But they were hard as a rock, and could not get wet! Technology has much improved since than, so I may revisit that at some point with the ortho doc! ππ -
Plantar Fasciitis, Orπ€¬!! My Heel Really Hurts!!
Joe D. replied to Joe D.'s topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Caleb, Good advice from a very smart, and "gone to soon" man, that I had a "too short" time to know!!ππ Paul, Good advice, and believe it or not, been doing all that you said, for years! Mag, Multi, and all!! It's when I forget for too long, that I'm not 20-40 years old anymore, and (try to) power through an injury, or chronic problem, that i get a dose of 57 year old reality!π¬π Thanks KOB, I'm going to be looking for the correct shoes/boots to work! May take a bit of trial and error though!π Thanks Geof, Land use, i do pretty good with the right footwear! It's that water/sand thing that is hard to cover! But I know that there are probably many here, that already have this dialed in! And i would like to see me, or any others, get the right combination, to prevent further problems!π Thanks Jim, I actually found those same ones yesterdayπ, and ordered a few!! Much easier than an ace wrap! And fit under regular socks!!ππ -
Hello All, Just a warning for anyone wearing unsupported footwear! The "malady" referenced above can hopefully be preventable, or at least reduced, for us "older" folks here!! I have occasional flare-ups, if I don't pay attention to my footwear support! My sandybeach footwear, hit me with a vengeance today! As I (stupidity) thought, I was healed enough from a less severe bout, from about 2 weeks ago! I had switched from "water shoes" to above the ankle neoprene "dive boots" with a non-skid bottom, to keep all the sand from grinding my toes to hamburger, on beach/surf hunts last year! They are flat bottomed with little support! And that was with inserts! My initial half mile walk was fine, with only minor discomfort! But upon my first "deep" scoop with that foot, I felt a pop, and it felt like someone had just "shot" me in the heal! But I continued to hunt with the after-effects anyway! Not smart, but I was just starting! You know how it is! Let's just say, the rest of the hunt, and return trip, along with the rest of the day, has not been fun! I'll probably need a few cortisone shots, crutches, and a new pair of "water boots"! If anyone has some "tried and true" suggestions to keep the support, and the sand out, on and off shore, I'm all ears! Thanks!!ππ

Green-lighted by the Head Honcho here, than good enough for me!! Welcome "back" Jen!! I will forgo the "give us some introductory info request" this time, as you know the drill!!π€£πππ

Coil Cable Repair. Snake Skinz.
Joe D. replied to karelian's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
It's also available on Amazon as generic rolls in different diameters, ie. 1/2, 3/4, 1", etc., lenghts, and colors! It's mainly an abrasion, and appearance cover for automotive wiring, in the form of an interwoven mesh! But I found that the size that Snake Skinz comes in won't go over all coupling sizes! Hence, how i found alternative sources!!ππ -
ColonelDan, Where the He*l you been???, long time no see!!! I had done mine almost exactly the same, so I can remove the coil cover to clean out the beach sand, and dirt!! The only difference is that I cut little slots in the coil cover for the zip ties to not interfere with the coil cover going on! I guess that was just a perceived problem on my part, as you seem to have made it work just fine, without that modification on yours!! Good show! And don't be a stranger!!ππ Just had it off for a rinse, from today's beach run!! And wanted to add an experience with ML that is applicable! I think I showed my last broken coil tab, (one side) somewhere here on the forum! And my subsequent repair with JB Weld, and some fiber washers! It broke just before a trip out of state, so I had no choice but to repair for the trip! When I returned, I explained the situation to ML, and they had me send it back for replacement at no cost, except for initial shipping; under warranty! I was very happy with their response and service, as I've had three under warranty coil replacements, and two Pod replacements from them!!π (Thanks ML!) I would love to see them solve the few apparent flaws in the Nox, but in the meantime, they are standing by their warranty very well, for me so far!!ππ

Beach Season Has Begun
Joe D. replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Great job, Can't wait for our beach season to begin! Need some serious Noreasters to get the party started! Sooo much renursment, and deposited sand, that i literally need 8-10 feet in some spots to get to any old stuff!! But hopefully, the ride down will concentrate some newer stuff!! Nothing like you find, but we work with what we have available! Good luck, with your detector arsenal! And I hope you have a banner season!!πππ- 206 replies

All About Detectival 2021 Here
Joe D. replied to β Cipher's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Cool! Wish I could be there hunting those fields!! And yeah, I think ML should have put up more advertising!! Hope it's not printed on the TP too!! Butt then again, if it has a three year warranty.....πππ -

I think that all points here are valid! And the experience brought to bear here is formidable! Thanks!!π My humble takeaway; and correct me if I'm wrong, is this is a great teaching, and diagnostic tool, if one is lucky enough to have someone take the time to show them! And it can be used to show someone the advantages, or shortcomings of a particular detector/coil, in a somewhat "controlled" situation! I will further add, that it's obviously not for everybody, or the types of hunting we all use detectors for! But has it's place in the tool belt for those interested!π ππ

That's the first thing I noticed F350π, another "π" piece of jewelry; I think it's the third, or more, I've seen now! Weird!!! MN, I think I would definitely have that 3030 in a regular rotation, at least! It's a keeper!! Good job on the finds!ππ

I could have sworn that somewhere in the manual, ML said that the detector can be used as a crutch, cane, or club, in emergency situations! Never thought that any parts would break......πππ

Gotta love competition! It's fun to watch the virtual "chess" match between companies trying to come out with their products first! Especially with the Holidays approaching! But as we have seen, that can be a double edged proposition, if it's a rush job!! Tough business!! But Good for us!! I'll be even more excited, to possibly see more than one, hit the dirt!! π₯³ππ

Welcome to the forum Jeff, Always happy to see new people make it here! Lots of information in both your "hobbies" here! So search, and enjoy the vast amount of information! And of course, share your travels, and finds!ππ

Welcome to the forum Andy, Glad you found us here, and F350's response says it all, for the most part! You can collect some practice targets to mess around with, to give your ears some "muscle memory" and that will also help! Good luck!π And if you haven't done so yet, go to the Meet And Greet section and give us an informal intro as to where you are, how long detecting, and the types of items and conditions you may have!ππ

I'll have what he's having!! (Chuck)!!π€£ Sorry Chuck, I just got some "likes" in my holder again, and can't use them all up on the first goaround today!! So here are some substitutes!πππππ

Gotta love the anticipation of a new detectors imminent announcement!! And all that goes with it!! I'm gonna savor the flavor for a bit! πππ
