Sorry to hear about the Fibro, but you obviously did not let that stop you!!๐ You all could have stayed at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway, on Van Ness!! Was pretty good, when we went! Too bad I wasn't back to detecting then, but it was definitely eating at me, at the time, as I was playing tourist with the family! And yes, I'm sure there were no bed bugs doing the eating; I checked!! Now, where you guys stayed....... ??๐คฃ๐๐

First Ever Silver Thimble At 1850's Site
Joe D. replied to Goldpick's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Wow GP, Great intact find! Along with the others! Yet to get one myself, but one day! Along with many other bucket listers! Thanks for posting!!๐๐ -
Mike, With a magazine name like that, I'm sure that is all you can show us!!๐คฃ๐๐๐

Tom, IMO, Certain points you made are correct! But others are a little exaggerated, and can cause anyone not aware, a lot of grief! I will not try and convince you out of what you believe to be true! Out of respect for your opinions, and Steve's Rules! To me, it all comes down to the laws and ordinances as they stand; hated by us or not!! That's what we have to work with! And Risk vs. Reward, by trying (or not) to get those laws and ordinances changed, or ignoring them outright! In my area, I am not willing to fight the system for a bunch of clad, and trash in my County Parks! They can keep it!! I have plenty of City, and other County areas (mostly beaches, waterways, and a few permissions) that will produce the same, and oftentimes, better results, than 10-40 year old County Parks! And are out of their jurisdiction!! And if ever challenged in those areas, I ultimately have the law on my side, and my lawyers card in my pocket! I will stop there, for the rest of my thoughts could be considered political, and will never be solved, or tolerated here in our "Happy Place"!!๐๐๐

Peg & Pupโs Beautiful Late Summer Day
Joe D. replied to IdahoPeg's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Happy it went well for her Glenn, and thanks for the procedure breakdown and additional info! You never know who this my help down the road!! (besides Peg!)๐ Prayers for your wife's speedy recovery!!๐๐๐ -
We were just trying to answer a question for Cap!! Not contest the "secret sauce" ML is actually using!! Don't really care what the mix is, as we can't control it anyway! As long as it works! But feel free to add to his question!!๐๐๐

My mistake Tex, You are correct!! And I will fix!!๐๐

That was an "everybody" post, not focused on you Chuck!!๐๐ I'm sure I'm guilty of a few "stepped on toes" in my time here! Not intentional!! I try and not take this stuff too seriously! And laughter, while learning, has always proven to be the best way to deny boredom, and complacency!! And live a longer life!! So I've learned, through many highly technical, and physically demanding courses, unrelated to detecting, that this still holds true, even here!! No hurt feelings here buddy; you got to be you! Don't stop!! Your one of my favorites!! Anyone who can dish it out, as well as take it, is OK in my book! And I mean that in the best "all in fun" way, and not in an "abusive" way, of course!!๐คฃ๐๐

Cap, 5khz to 40khz in multi on both 600-800! 4khz being the new single frequency added in the last update!! Single frequency is limited on the 600 to max 15khz; as F350 said!!๐๐

Hey Chuck, We all are definitely not going to agree 100% on the myriad amount of subjects on this forum; or any other for that matter! The majority of us get that! We have some strong personalities on the forum, and some with "thin skin", that may not be familiar with "crew" dynamics, and what comes with that!! That's fine too! Those idiosyncrasies take some time to get to know! Especially when the majority of us only know each other, by what we post! But to me, and alot of other's here, it's the latitude that Steve let's us have on his forum, that makes it different than many out there! Notice i didn't say better, because this is just one man's opinion! Although, I think so! I only begrudgingly started to hit other forums, when this one was down for weeks, and i wasn't sure if it was coming back!!๐ I guess it all depends what one is looking to get out of a particular forum! There are other good ones out there, no doubt!! After working in a tight crew format for 30 years, retirement can be a mental and social desert! I miss the commerodery, and interaction of a bunch of "like minded" people! Steve's forum is as close as I've come to that since retirement! And much of that comes from Steve letting us be ourselves; with certain "needed" guidelines in place! Some of the other forums, I noticed, don't want to let anyone joke around, or have an inside "laugh" here or there! That's fine for them, but many of us don't want to act like robots, spitting out information and experiences, without a little self expression!! Steve has no problem giving anybody a slap, or more, if they get out of line! But I think there is just the right amount of tolerance here, to make this an attractive forum to hang out, and participate! I know it is for me!! Ok, enough with all this "mushy" stuff!!๐ Let's get back to work finding the goodies!! And helping others do the same!!๐๐๐

Mh, That brings up another good question/dilemma we all face, depending on how strict the "Authorities" are in different locales! How much depth/time/potential damage, are you willing to go to, to remove a target?? We have two Counties that ban "digging" anything in "County" owned parks!! That's how they manage to "dance" around an all out detecting ban! I've often wanted to challenge this, but look at the risk/reward factor, and have left it alone for now!!๐๐
-
Great post Raphis, And follow-ups by all! You definitely have the Nox, and your skills, dialed in to your intended targets! Keep them poppin' out of that trashy ground!!๐ I do have some sorta unrelated questions, since you have so many hours on the Nox/11" combo! Any issues with coil tabs breaking?, and in line with that, do you keep your coil loose, and able to swing, or reasonably tight, in a fixed position? And what kind of life are you getting out of the coil washers? Also, wireless ML, or aftermarket, or wired aftermarket headphones? Thanks!!๐๐

Glad to see your back Cap! Like I said, this post was new to me, and I liked (most all) of the content very much! It's not that often that someone new gets as much information as you did in your request! And sometimes, that can be intimidating to a new poster! Especially when someone takes a hard line in the discussion! I wanted to lighten the mood a bit, and find out what was the outcome of your decision, since I somehow missed your original post for a few months! No big deal, about not buying anything yet! Has happened to all of us! Stuff happens, and money needs to be reallocated for more important things! That does not have to stop you from continuing to research, as new detectors are being released almost every year! โโโAnd don't forget the used market!! People here, and elsewhere, are constantly selling great used equipment! Which can be a much cheaper entry into what you may want! For example, look at our classifieds right now!๐ I almost exclusively, buy used now!! I wish you much luck๐, and hope that you won't be a stranger here on the forum!!๐๐ And we still don't know what part of Florida your in, if you care to share!! I'm here too, so nice to hear from another, in the Sunburn State!!๐ฅต๐

First of all, welcome to the forum Cap!! You found a great place to seek detector advice, as clearly shows in all the previous posts!! Did you ever post in the Meet and Greet section?? What part of Florida are you in?? I don't know how I missed this post, but boy, it was highly educational, an entertaining!!๐๐๐ If parts of this post could be put into music, I would say it was the "dueling banjos" theme from "Delerverence"!!๐คฃ๐ I'm done here!๐ Cap!!, what detector did you end up buying??? Now I'm really done here!!๐๐๐คฃ

Bounty Hunter 840! Not because it was necessarily anything technically special at the time, but because it was simple to use, and the anodized electric blue color was way cool!๐คฃ (the Red Barron was cool looking too!) And it found me a bunch of silver in the late 70's! Along with the lack of restrictions that we have today, to be able to have fun, and hunt practically anywhere without being hassled! ๐๐ And yes, I still have it!!๐

Howdy Tim, First off, Thank You for your service!๐ฎ Plenty to explore here, and even more to learn, from some great teachers! Hope you decide to stick around for awhile, and share some finds, and stories with us!! Happy hunting!!๐๐

Anyone Using The Coiltek 15" Nox Coil?
Joe D. replied to Bill (S. CA)'s topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Thanks Chase, I totally agree with you! An elliptical is probably the ideal choice! I'm just a little leary of the same coil tabs, as on the 11"! As I said; probably just paranoia on my part, having had three break! I was, of course, hoping to get that little extra, that many of us buy aftermarket coils for too! Realistic or not, we do prop up the market in so doing! I'm happy, and the seller is happy! So it's all good! And the original seller was Gerry, of Gerrys Detectors! So it came to me from two good guys! ๐๐ -
Ok Chuck, here is my serious response!! Hard to compare apples to apples on this! As MineLab is so much larger, with very deep pockets! But we saw what happened with demands for more coils that were unanswered for what I think, was too long! They were probably unaffected, but we have long memories about consumer requests, and complaints! And they eventually aquesed, a little!! Again, being sort of a "boutique" detector maker has it's financial limations! But I think Tarsacci is very aware of their market, and ability, or lack of it, to bring customers what they want! No company can build requested items on charity, and prosper, so I'm guessing certain financial milestones needed to be accomplished, to be able to create more variety for the end user! How fast that happens is anyone's guess!! In the meantime, wait till at least to your 90's, to stop asking for a new coil!!๐๐๐๐

Chuck, You are a "pit bull" with a one track mind! Keep shaking that tree, and maybe you can be the beta tester for the first one to fall out of the branches!! Also, did you get your rabies and distemper shots this year?? Just checking!!๐คฃ๐๐

Peg & Pupโs Beautiful Late Summer Day
Joe D. replied to IdahoPeg's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Thanks Peg, I have no idea how you can stand coming back to Florida, with all that In your "backyard"!! But then again, I've never had to go through a whole winter anywhere but here! But I'd like to try it sometime! Can't be worse than summers here!! At least I could go skiing, instead of trying to chill in the A/C all summer! The costs would be about the same, and I would at least, be in better shape, by the end of the season!! Or at home with a broken limb, catching up on my reading, and detector mods! โท๐ค ๐คฃ๐๐ -
Keep them coming Chuck, Hope you wear your lead overalls when you take these for us!!๐๐

Anyone Using The Coiltek 15" Nox Coil?
Joe D. replied to Bill (S. CA)'s topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Ok, I went to one of my usual beaches to try the 15"! No test targets or depth comparison's; i just winged it! Weight was noticeable, but bringing it in closer to my feet helped, along with my counterweight! Not a coil for all day swinging, but I like the coverage, and it forced me to slow my swing down a bit! First time out in quite a while, so my arm was not properly ready for detecting season! So I won't say that the coil is too heavy yet! And I still need to do some comparisons, but I mainly got it for more ground coverage, and also not having any other coils for my Nox, except stock 11", I waited (forever๐) for an aftermarket (used) version, that I knew would eventually turn up! Even though this beach is extremely sanded in, and targets sparse, it had no trouble hitting large, small, or thin targets, shallow, and at decent depth! And was stable in All metal, Beach 1, and 2, sen. 20-22, F2-0! I also do factory reset when changing coils, and ground balanced several times as I went from dry to wet, and back, along with mode changes! I lasted about an hour and a half, before the sun ran me off the beach!๐ฅต No great finds: a nickel, zincs, leaderwire and swivels, small lead weight, zipper pull, screw, an assortment of pull tabs, aluminum scraps, beer can, and of course bottlecaps, which were easily decernable, as was the can., but dug them anyway! That's it for now!!๐๐ I'm the blue spec in the middle, with "Big Brother" watching me!!๐คฃ
