  1. Thanks Carl, That's good enough for me! πŸ‘I'm very happy to hear that those were good years for you! I appreciate the response! I had a big gap in my detecting years; 83-2014, and wish I had continued through them!πŸ˜” So probably why I've gone backwards on a "few"πŸ™„ detectors from a couple companies to fill in some gaps, etc! I really enjoy them!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  2. Always glad to see you chime in Geotech!πŸ‘ This being an oldish post that was resurrected, it's always nice to get a refresher on some info, from one of the original employees! I still own three White's detectors! My modded TDI SL's being my favorite beach detectors now! (One's a backup)! The other i have is a Mxt All Pro, but not for the beach! Maybe you can review a bit more history of your experiences while you were there, and what you think Garrett is doing with the remaining tech and ideas! If I missed this previously, or am overstepping on bad memories, NDA's, etc, than no need to expound!! Just curious, and may be more suitable for a separate post!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  3. And there is the predicted response from Mr. Steve!πŸ‘ŒI must be psychic!!πŸ‘³β€β™‚οΈπŸ€“ Now if only I could apply that psychic ability to my detecting, I would be posting a lot more!!πŸ€”πŸ˜‚ Life is way to short to sweat the small stuff KD8! On to bigger and better finds, with whatever you choose to swing!!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  4. That's OK Jeff, you can visit mine, or better yet, Simon's!! I was just saying to someone that I like old, dusty detectors, with no warranty!!πŸ€£πŸ‘πŸ‘
  5. Oh forget it then, unless you throw in a free scope too!!πŸ˜ πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ‘
  6. I don't know if Steve, or anyone else here, threw Whites under any busses! And you have some valid points! But besides the fact that he knows the business inside and out; he's a big boy, and if he feels the need to justify anything here on his forum, I'm sure he will! All I can say is keep it a clean fight!!πŸ€£πŸ€œπŸ€› And thanks for some interesting conversation, I haven't posted this much in a while!!πŸ˜‚πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  7. I understand what Simon was trying to convey! Good or bad, people wanted lighter machines with a broader range of usable conditions, that kept pace with the technology! And the demographic has changed too! Many younger people grew up in a "disposable electronics" world, and don't mind chucking something after a few years of use! Take a look at any charity shop, flee market, etc... and you'll find many "gadgets" that still have life left, but look klunky or dated! Trust me, while I appreciate my TDI SL at the beach (it's well balanced, considering its weight), it's not waterproof, or really saltproof for that application, like some of the newer machines, and has zero warranty now!😡 Same with my Tesoro's! With the exception of my Sand Shark; but no lightweight, and no warranty! Like I said before, obviously White's made some bad decisions, as did Tesoro, etc.., build quality wasn't the final straw! But I do appreciate an ultra lightweight machine that i can swing all day, if the conditions warrant, and not feel like my elbow and shoulder are going to explode! Aging sucks, and so does the fact that finds are not what they used to be; at least in the US anyway! So for the companies still left, their catering to what "most" detectorist say they want; young or old, newbe, or seasoned, prospector, or one or two time users! Or else they will fold too! Also, the surviving companies have learned to diversify! Some long ago, like Garrett, who "could" survive just fine without the hobby division, but have invested much recently to keep it alive! And I'm happy they did, as the last, real US competitor in the game! One final note, just to keep me on track with the post title, is while those older machines still do the job, they are just not relevant in many forums, as far as people talking about them much! Good or bad, everyone can make there own judgment, but most like the leading edge, and excitement of new machines, and if that's what keeps the forums alive, than "it is what it is"; my favorite saying BTW! Even on forums that tend to "cater" to the older machines, the posts tend to be few, and far between! Monte'sπŸ˜” (RIP) Forum, AHRPS.org, Is a good example! Even there, they have had to relegate all the defunct companies into one heading now, for lack of posts! And he was a diehard "old detector user"! It is what it is!!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  8. White's had multiple problems! There was not just one thing that did them in! But there "new" old stock is sparse these days, and there is a healthy used market! I have three of some of their best i bought used! Unlike many others here, I had a large gap in my detecting years, so the analog and digital "play by ear" models appeal to me, and always will; among other modern one's i have! Steve and others "in the know" have gone over all the issues previously, with those companies that are now defunct, and I won't second guess their near half century of wisdom on the subject! I'm in it for the fun, and I like the people I've met along the way, while doing it! Just sorry I missed the really productive years, and great innovations, when they were new! All good things have there time, and end! Nothing new there!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  9. That is awsome! What a great little device! When are they gonna be for sale!! "Ken's Coil Frequently Tester" another great tool from KenCo! Made in USA!πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡² Now, if you quit throwing them like a Frisbee, they won't keep breaking!πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘
  10. Great eye for finding the spot, and finds! And very impressive flight aerobatics by that eagle!!πŸ‘πŸ‘
  11. Much depends on how and where you carry/place you scoop! I have a wood handle on my TRex, so I low carry with the scoop to the rear! Some like to shoulder carry, but my arm goes numb like that! The bigger coils, and PI's can be more prone to interference, as they have a bigger field of view! As far as when pinpointing, I'm not fond of using big coils to pinpoint, not that it can't be done! I prefer a small coil, or my actual pinpointer! I've found i am much more efficient with a pinpointer, In rapidly finding a target, and moving on! just keep the coil away, as it can cause the same issues!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  12. Keep us updated!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  13. I have a few name brand units (no cheap knockoffs), and they all work well! I like mine waterproof and quiet! But if your unsure after researching what your best match is, you can always buy used and lessen the wallet hit! Same with their full size cousins! It's rare i buy any detecting equipment new now! That way I can buy more!!πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  14. Awsome Chuck, I'd be all over those dry and shallow riverbed areas! Unlike the beaches here, the goodies aren't washed away easily, or covered every year or so in 10 ft of fake beach sand! Think I live in the wrong place! Also beach finds used to renew, but between the lack of quality drops from newer generations, and the sand coverage, it's getting sparse! I also miss the coin meters, as at least you could bank on some clad most days! Progress? Says who?? Hope you find some treasures; And NO bodies!!☠ πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  15. Hello and welcome again Dave!!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  16. Well, detecting wise, "your" a legend!!πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ‘
  17. Welcome Dave,πŸ‘‹ Yeah, Steve, the administrator/owner, just put that in place, as we were getting alot of spammers hitting the site! Keep posting and you will be editing like the rest of us soon enough!πŸ˜‚ Great finds, and welcome to the forum!!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘ BTW, I've noticed that before with rings, corrosion will get in between the stone and setting, and when disturbed, the stone or stones can drop out! Also when digging!πŸ‘ You have a very familiar detecting name!!πŸ€”πŸ˜
  18. As a Florida boy, I'd say my favorites are Siesta Key and North, up thru the panhandle, on the West Coast! Do ask about the "Red Tide" conditions before booking West Coast though, as it is a respiratory irritant, especially in older folks, and individuals with a history of breathing problems! South of there are still recovering from the hurricanes, if I'm not mistaken! East Coast (I'm in Melbourne) I'd say Vero North to past St. Augustine, but before Jacksonville! This time of year, ask about the seaweed conditions, as it can get messy if not removed! Disney Vero is a pretty safe bet for clean rooms, manicured beachs, and large pool area! And it is right in the center of the 1715 Treasure Fleet Wrecks! You might get lucky! Then there's always the Savanna Ga area, and Hilton Head SC area; both very nice also! πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  19. Come on Simon🀣, if that were the case, she would have buried you under the house by now!!πŸ‘πŸ‘
  20. Why does detecting forum management have to be so difficult!!?πŸ˜‰ Your a good sport Steve, and a patient soul! (Mostly)!πŸ€£πŸ‘πŸ‘
  21. Steve, I'm very happy to hear you, and others, reiterate that sentiment! When you're a new member here, it can be intimidating to post anything, when using what "some" may consider an "inferior or subpar" detector! Frankly, to me, there is no such thing, as they will all find stuff! And it is definitely the user and their mastery of that detector, being the primary factor in their success! I know several people that can detect circles around some others, using an "old", or "cheap" detector, simply by knowing all the subtle nuances that these "inferior" machines tell them! Digital, and most definitely, analog machines still have a firm place in my arsenal, as they still preform! At some point, like many here, when I'm ready to whittle down my machines to a handful, I will still have at least one "old inferior" machine to pull out the stuff that gets passed over by the "latest and greatest" out there!πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘
  22. πŸ˜” There is a condolences post on Ahrps.org forum! He will be greatly missed!!πŸ™πŸ™
  23. Thanks Simon, Good and interesting info! I will probably never have the need for one, but the info is good even just for the knowledge base! One of many examples of how ML is NOT keeping tabs on their quality control! Really, how much more time and cost would be involved in doing a good job on their products!πŸ‘πŸ‘
