The Clock Is Ticking Fast For The AQ
Joe D. replied to PPP's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
Hey Jim, Can you do me a favor, and post the source of that silicone cover for the Nox! I think i bought the same one last year, and people here were asking me about it! ( it's in another post here somewhere) But i couldn't find it on Ebay anymore, or the paperwork for the guy who made them! It was a piece of quality work that i think more would like to have! And the price was right! Thanks Much!!ππ -
Underwater Amplified Headphones Project...
Joe D. replied to Skullgolddiver's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
You all are blowing me away with your mods lately! I'm going to have to sit down with my Dr. Frankenstein hat on, and do some mad scientist mods too!! (I did a counterweight for my Nox that i thought was pretty snappy!!)ππ -

Hello all, Everything seemed to be in alignment yesterday morning, when i woke up about 4 A.M., and couldn't go back to sleep after looking at the tides and weather! Had some issues that prevented me from getting out the last few weeks, so i was itching to go! The wind was ripping pretty good, and i had a spot in mind that had been renurished and ruined for quite a while, that should be showing signs of huntability again! Also, it's a spot that you can "dual hunt", meaning ocean beach and water, than a short walk away, intercoastal beach and shallow water!! I got there before sunrise to beat the heat, and low tide hit at around 7:15; perfect! Did a quick peek, and liked what i saw! Geared up; and within a few minutes, i found a decent coin line running North from the rocks, to open beach, about midway between the cliff and water! All the coins and other objects were on the harder shell layer, under about 6-8 inches of soft eroded sand! I followed it till it petered out, than backtracked a different line back to the rocks! I was hitting a few targets in the rocks, and got to finally put my new PulseDive to the test! It worked great! A few times, i had to put my detector and scoop above the surf, and hand dig, and test over and over for a few tough targets that were locked in crevices and rock holes! Cool, but a little time intensive! I was hoping for a sliver, or long lost gold item, but ended up with some 70's and 80's coins instead! All good though! After about 2 hours, the incoming tide was beating me back from the good area, so i took a break, than switched over to the calm intercoastal side for about another 2 hours of relaxed hunting; mostly in the water! Overall, i was happy with what i recovered, even though no gold or silver today! Now i know that i can return, as the erosion progresses hopefully! If not, i know the other side has some jewlery waiting for me! ππ

Ongoing Equinox Coil Ear Breakage Issue
Joe D. replied to Bill (S. CA)'s topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
This to me, is a product defect! I to have used shims and detect-ed gaskets to help prevent this problem again! But i think it needs to be acknowledged, and fixed by Minelab themselves! I *Hate It* when manufacturers know of problems, and keep pumping out the same defective product! Neither I, nor anyone else, should have to put out extra money to fix this problem, and the water leak problem! And yes, time lost on warranty repairs, is money! I paid for a Three year warranty!! Not a two and a half, or two and three quarter one! Warranty repairs have been good, but as I've said here before! Don't keep sending me the same defective product back again, so down the line, it becomes a repeat!! You all know the saying: "Don't piss on my head, And tell me it's raining"π§ I will just spend my money elsewhere on someone else's superior product next time around!! And that's a promise!!ππ -
Thanks all, for the input so far!! The EQ 800 has been great, but having to ship off parts twice now, leaves me with just the AT Pro, which is unusable in some of my usual situations! I didn't really want to duplicate the Nox, when there are other great options to be had! But i have time to see what comes down the pike within the next year!!ππ

Hello Stu, Welcome! I love to see finds other than just metal! Steve has a category for most everything we hunt! I hunt flint and arrowheads too! Amoung other things! At least you are using one of our "good" pennies for scale! And not a zincon!! That one would probably disintegrate before your eyes!! Embarrassing coin!! Good Luck, and post often!!ππ

17.69 Gram AQ Gold 1942 Class Ring
Joe D. replied to Joe Beechnut OBN's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Joe, Thanks for the video!π I have a few questions unrelated to finds! I don't see a flag or warning device! Do you "worry" about a boat or jet ski, running you down?? It's an issue here, with unskilled, young, or intoxicated operators!! And i may have mentioned this one before, but any shark/dolphin/rays/other scares?? We have Manatees, and other things! But you never know what may creep, step on, run into, or charge up!!π¬π¬ ππ -
Ok all, I'm a little late to this thread, so a little background first! I haven't really looked at the Deus, since it first came out! So i consider myself pretty neutral for the two! I went through this thread, and watched part 1 and 2, and think it was fair to both so far! And i like them both! I have the EQ 800, and am relatively functional with it! I'm starting to investigate a machine to complement, but not necessarily overlap everything the 800 does, for a backup/goto machine! **So now, with what's been said, are these two going to combine into one machine?? And is this just a matter of software to make them one unit?? **Is the gap between the Orx and Deus, comparable to the 600 and 800?? And does ML face the same problem/ issue of having two basically identical machines with just different software?? I'm also obviously looking at other brands in these price ranges that can basically "do it all well"; but i will stick to the subject by just getting the XP input from you all that know these machines, for now!! Thank's in advance!ππ

Detector To Sweep For Needles
Joe D. replied to Groblin's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
May be a wiser investment to just purchase some puncture proof gardening gloves, if a magnet sweep does not produce reliable results!ππ -
Detector To Sweep For Needles
Joe D. replied to Groblin's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
It would also make a big difference if you were trying to recover sharps through top soil, or established sod! Sod would be very difficult for a magnet to pull through objects, unless right on surface!ππ -
Detector To Sweep For Needles
Joe D. replied to Groblin's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
The Home improvement stores sell a wide stick magnet that is used on construction sites to sweep for screws and nails! I'm sure you can find them online also!! This would be much more efficient for shallow sharps, than a detector!! Good Luck!ππ -

Ace Apex Production Announcement
Joe D. replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Garrett Metal Detectors
Simon, You know you can buy covers for most any detector if the color is "dog nuts"π objectionable! Also, a can of spray paint can fix any color! Maybe chrome color! That way it will look to everyone looking at it, almost invisible!πππ -

Submerged Salt, Nearing 30 Hours
Joe D. replied to jimpugh's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
So does the higher power of the AQ magnify the effect? And is the only way to resolve this, by hardwiring the coil? I guess that would toss out coil changes!? Also, is this a problem in fresh water too? Again, anyone can respond! Thanks for the education!ππ -
Submerged Salt, Nearing 30 Hours
Joe D. replied to jimpugh's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
The connector, and the coil size both seem like they are easily fixed at this stage in development! Hopefully they are on the punch list! I think i saw where Rick mentioned a possible 8-9in. coil addition! Also Steve, you said this connector issue is common to other detectors! Does that include submersible VLF's??ππ ( Not putting you on the spot Steve, anyone can answer!!)π -
Hello Domenico, Been awhile!! You should visit more often! Love the WW1 finds!ππ

Long live competition among the detector companies! I sure hope the Apex gives the others, a run for their money! And Garrett should be hotly working on the next iteration!!ππ
