  1. Yeah, sounds like a large pebble beach could be tougher to discern tiny "pebble" sized aluminum! Not an issue in Florida!  I can pick them out with my pinpointer fairly easy! And ocassionly get a golden or silver reward!  Inland, i have the same issues with lawnwower induced shredded aluminum piece's! You all must be Big into bonfire induced, melted cans over there!🤣

I wish i could be of more help! But Steve and Chase blow me out of the water, with their collective experience!

Keep us up-to -date though!! I am very curious how you get to the solution! And post some scale pic examples of what,  and where, you are experiencing the most trouble! And some cool finds!👍👍

  2. Welcome, Welcome!  Argyris,

I've found generally, that at the beach, you can discern the micro targets by the sound profile! I personally like them, so i dig them!

You might try some air tests at home with the objects you are trying to bypass! While not ideal, it's a controlled environment where you can train your ears, without distraction! It works pretty well!

I recently did this with 39 of my wife's rings, and some chains! I was able to classify the rings into nine groups! They were anywhere from 33 to 8,  in Park 1! While this is far from conclusive in actual soil conditions! It did open my eyes to  some commonalities; and marked differences, in signals, and metal composition!

I'm right there with you man; the parks are my Achilles Heal with the 800, at the moment!

    It's a process!  Good luck!👍👍

  3.   Yeah, you already know i have been eyeing the Vanqish!  But waiting to see what the Apex can do!

Just as well, my A/C tapped out a few weeks ago, and i had to spend $6500 to replace! So, looks like I'll have to keep using other machines through you guys! In the mean time, i have plenty to learn on the Knox!👍👍

  4. GB,

I was running stock coil, sensitivity between 15-23 based on ground feedback, and powerline proximity! I also think I'm getting a fair amount of wifi interference from many nearby houses! Ground balanced numerous times! And intentionally ran in multi Park 1, for most of the time! I didn't want to switch to single frequency this go around! I want to rehunt when i have both detectors next time, to compare! And will experiment when i have more time!

I just really need to put more hours on it to acclimate! This park is large, and i was concentrating on just a relatively small area in the shaded areas, under some large shade trees! It has had a few regrading's over the years, so I'm wading through the last 20-30 years of trash, and clad! Hopefully i will be able to get to some good stuff (40's- 60's) here!

Got a few pics now! One junk find was actually the oldest item found that day! A little army guy in a turret,  in a sort of armored vehicle! At one time, he could rotate around!   But interestingly,  made in England! Not China, Japan, or Taiwan! Which is rare here!

  5. In my opinion, and (somewhat  limited) experience!  The dispersion, or density of targets is definitely more of a factor on the Equinox, than my previous detectors!

I feel pretty confident with it at the beachs; few issues!  But in many of my local parks, it still tries to "kick my a**"! ( or i'm a dumba**)🤯 ?!

Today was a perfect example! (Heat not withstanding)!  My 2nd time out this week, since the lockdown eased up! 1st was a beach hunt; easy peasy! Today a local trashy park (with several power lines nearby) in what is now a "reclaimed" neighborhood! I had to work hard  (adjustments to detector; mostly hunted Park 1) to pull the clad and pennies out of it!

No silver (Not a surprise!), a few dog tags, some keys, copper pipe, electrical parts, rusty metal, a ton of aluminum; and those damn twistoff aluminum caps, and others, everywhere! Which i absolutely hate!🤬   It gave me a headache after 2 hours, and i called it quits! Ended up with a few dollars in change!

This is when i sometimes switch to my AT Pro!  A less advanced detector? Yes! But using it in this type of park? Sooo much easier!  But i always feel like i will miss any deep targets (old coins, etc..) using it!  So i try to alternate!

So it's "nice" (Not)! To see that there are others in the same boat as myself!

I guess we will all keep plugging away,  till we  "Flatten the learning Curve"😁 in unraveling the intricacies of the Knox!!👍👍

Was just getting ready to order the equinox and noticed that apparently minelab only makes double d coils for it.

Will a double d coil work ok in non-mineralized soil??

Yes, fine and dandy! Highly mineralized soils are where the problems occur!

But for now, (and probably ever🤬) Equinox is limited to those three coils!😞

    That's the short version!

Steve, Chase, Phrunt(Simon), and others will give you the tech verson! And alternative detectors, based on a little more input from you! Like hunting locations, type of targets expected, etc... Keep that itchy trigger finger in "check" for a little longer, if you can!👍👍

  7.  Yes Steve, we are staying on "subject"!!!  We were just discussing what a great place this would be to detect! And the equipment needed to get there; for the canew 🛶 guy!! 🤣👍👍

  8.  Simon,

Your shovel is listed under "Nursery  Landscaping  Tools" on their site!   How the heck did you end up there, to get a "detecting" shovel??? 🤯

My  "Ball Handle" is right next to it! But i got mine from a detecting site!!

    "Inquiring minds want to know"😁👍

  9. Welcome Mike,

I know the feeling! I was out this weekend in the rain with the 800! First use since the lockdown began to lift here! It felt like a new detector!

I don't think your sister will need too much "luck"! That's a great detector to start with! Watch out!, she may skunk you!!🤣  Wish you all the best of luck, and skill!👍👍

  10. Hello all,

I was reading Steve's post on "Best detector values under $500 dollars"! And noticed something!

I noticed that MineLab is the only manufacturer that listed the operation temperature, and storage temperature of their equipment!

Being a Native of South Florida with its oppressive heat, humidity, and salt air, most of the year! I have experienced first hand what happens to electronics,  plastics, adhesives, etc... that many of you in certain States, and Country's, have also experienced!

Suffice it to say to the uninitiated, that it is a bad idea to leave these items in an enclosed vehicle for an extended period of time!♨️

The last couple of weeks, i have been trying to figure out if coil or detector color, can adversely affect function and longevity, in these types of conditions! (not just inside vehicles)!  Proof has been hard to find, without the advantages that the designers,  and bench testers, have at their disposal!

I know "most" electronics have overload protection built in; from energy spikes , as well as heat! That would be an obvious "failure"! But short of this "failure", will detection depth, or circuit function be appreciably reduced based solely on the surface, and internal temps of the parts themselves?  Especially the copper windings of the coil!  Are PI detectors more likely to suffer, due to the added power output? And is this a cumulative,  or situational effect that goes unnoticed? ( loss of depth with hot coil, or circuit function)!

Just wanted to get that out there for any input you all have!! Based on the huge knowledge base on this forum!👍👍
