Wow, last thing you need is talk radio subtly converting you into some sort of fanatic while trying to relax and dig.

Wonder if you could make an emi shield of some sorts and cover the control box? I thought about something like that for my Tejon.

It’s ok I got used to it.

No I wouldn’t want to make a emi shield on a $1500 detector.  I’ll just switch on blacksand.

Lower frequencies work better on deep silver but lower it is the harder it is to split out the iron. I do hunt in 5 khz on my Kruzer in Gen Mode (all metal) with a good deal of success but need to work slowly. Very gratifying when you pick out a dime below a big chunk of iron and watching VDI to see any # that is above the iron as an indicator of a masked object. Mid range 14khz works easier and little depth loss.

Is there a lot of transformers causing the EMI? One spot I had been hitting has a generator running for a school on one side, nursing home across the street with it's generator, transformers on the 2 roads as it's on a corner and if that wasn't enough there is a nearby cell tower. My poor Tejon just flutters and is nearly unusable.

There are  buildings with offices  so heavy  WiFi usage is an issue along with a few radio stations that broadcast from the tops of buildings.   I could hear music from one of the radio stations in my headphones and it is not the headphones picking up the music it’s the MDT. I could still hunt as the music is very low.     I didn’t have any issues with my CTX at this park. That machine cleaned up pretty good.

Did you try just changing frequencies or frequency shift to eliminate emi?

I do that on my Multi Kruzer when near transformers.

I tried changing frequency didn’t work.
I could lower my sensitivity but that’s not what I want to do. I‘m after the deep silver.

Blacksand mode is what worked to keep MDT stable.   No loss in depth.  Some users hunt with some erratic behavior with blacksand off.

  4. Hunted my favorite park this afternoon for about an hour.  After about 15 minutes I got a good hit swinging the MDT slower than usual. If I swing faster I don’t hear the target. Vdi was a 12-14 sometimes a 7, as I swept the coil towards the bottom of the hole swinging side to side the Vdi got higher 22-24.  Down at 7 inches I pulled up a dateless buffalo nickel. That was the only coin found. Dug 11 holes,  8 were iron, 1 cut up aluninum from a can, 1 piece of aluminum from a small screw in bulb.     Also dug up half of a key fob from Golden Nugget not deep  and a fleur-de-lis pin it was an eyeball find from the iron infested site.   Infested site ground balanced at 845 due to decayed iron in  ground.

park settings: sens 9, threshold-2, disc 0, blacksand ON,

infested site: sens 6, threshold-2, disc 0, blacksand ON.

  5. Hunted Paul’s neck of the woods for 5 hours in search of that gold or bust coin. No luck only dug up the usual targets you find at old settlements. The last time I dug up old coins here was back in 2005 when I dug up a 1816 2 reale which is rare to find here in this part of California (Central Valley) and a 1850 French coin with the explorer Xs.  Both coins now at the county museum with Paul’s finds.

The ground here is  fertilized dirt 700-800gb and the MDT handled it well. The iron isn’t as bad as the dry river dump site where I get overload message on the MDT over large iron.   It was great to get out to do some hunting,  beautiful weather and weeds were not a problem.   Better luck next time.

Hi Denny, Yes I do at times use BLKS.  Unfortunately there doesnt sèm to be a +- frequency shift like the XP Deus, plus this unit is not a vlf. so I cant help you with the music. Do you hear it on each frequency or only 1.?There are some mediums  ( certain rocks/gravel) where you can run the Tarsacci too hot so bearing in mind full on doesnt mean more depth, as the depth is there even with lower settings....it is more a case of having  first off your GB and SALT balanced for a quiet unit, then play with the TH & SENS, possibly even turn TRACK on. I had a patch of gravel, sand and who knows what minerals play havoc and had me pushing buttons until I could run it quiet.

    Hello Teresa

Im getting music on all frequencies. I just have to deal with it.   I’ve mentioned the problem to nasa-Tom but didn’t get an answer to correct the issue.  Ive asked my local hunting partner Paul who also uses the MDT  to go out to this city park to see if his machine does the same.  Could it be I have a defective machine?  I don’t know.

At the dry river I haven’t tried salt mode as this is a freshwater river I will try it next time I’m there.  There is lots of  metal junk tossed into this river like a dumping ground over the years and the MDT  handles it well. I cannot use my  T2 as it just overloads in areas I hunt because of high mineralization in the ground. Pulling pulltabs and bottle caps at depths of over 10 inches so it doing its job on deep targets. (I hate those aluminum foil covered  Modelo beer caps)   I’ve read 2 beach hunters using the Tarsacci were comparing their machines on a saltwater beach same settings and one was able to run full sensitivity 9, threshold 0 with no issues and the other had erratic behavior had to lower sensitivity a bit.  Depth was the same.   Could there be a difference in how coils are made?   Maybe.  I think the MDT does a fantastic job in bad ground and see targets in between a few old square nails better than my T2.

  7. Hi Teresa,

Do you use blacksand mode while hunting?  Most users Don’t use it when hunting inland.

I use it while I’m park hunting in the city with a few radio stations in the area the blacksand sand mode  quiets the EMI but doesn’t quiet the music I get in my headphones. Nothing seems to get rid of the music reception I’m getting it’s not very loud I’ve never experienced anything like this with my other detectors. At the dry river when running full power I get erratic behavior but as soon as I turn on blacksand mode it goes away.  I’d rather have blacksand mode on than have to lower my sensitivity/threshold. Seems like I’m the only one who always uses it.

Great finds -- I'd be happy with any one of them!  Sounds like you're giving the Tarsacci a good workout in situations it might excel.  Most of the time a mintmarked coin (particularly -S) is going to be scarcer than the same year's plain (no mintmark = Philadelphia).  The 1862 half dollar is an exception.  You didn't mention a mintmark on that one.  Hope it doesn't have one....

Mintmark on both halves are S.

    Congrats Paul,

Funny no large cents, Indian head cents or shield nickels were dug up.   I’m wondering if the river crossing was a toll bridge like at Kingston.

The MDT  did a good job picking up the coin under a 3 inch hot rock we tested. When  blacksand mode is on hot rock was undetectable not a sound and made the MDT more stable.    Enjoyed hunting with you yesterday it was sure fun to get out to do some detecting.

Well, I have to admit I am disappointed Dimitar has never shown up on the forum to answer questions about the Tarsacci. When we talked he mentioned he might but so far no show. I hope it’s because he is too busy working on a gold prospecting version of his technology!

I too would like to hear  from Ditimar.  He could answer and share  a lot of questions we may have. I haven’t read any postings of his on other forums either.
