Id be curious to know if its the headphones and not the machine for that music. Ive hunted some very popular beaches in some major cities here and dont get it with Tonys phones. ... or the others i use.
Hi dew,
No it’s not the headphones it’s the MDT. No other machine I have does this. Just the MDT.
The use of AM is a pain in the butt when park hunting too many targets. Even at the dry river bed AM is not a good choice too many junk targets. People over the years have dumped TV’s, radios, car parts, household items, etc from the bridge.

Maybe it would be best to take a look at the cost of each detector first before doing a comparison.
You said the Tar. got 13” on the quarter and the Nox hit it at 10”
Let’s look at it this way the cost of the Nox is 899.00 divided by 10”= 89.90
It cost you 89.90 per inch on the Nox to detect that quarter
What’s the cost of the Tar. about 1500.00
1500 divided by 13”=115.38
cost you 115,38 per inch on the Tar.
The thing is the Tar cost lots more and for your money you should be getting more depth,
This based on what was said the original cost of the Tar.
Chuck
Nox price was to suck in buyers. They could have sold them for way more. I don’t think it is new technology just refined. That’s why price is so low.
A 3 inch difference to the Nox is a big jump in depth. What if that quarter was a rare one.
Your comparison to price per inch cracks me up reminds me of buying a house.😁HH

When I had my Tarsacci I used to hunt with black sand on, relic hunting. I have fairly mineralized soil and it got me better depth and ran more stable with it on. Sometimes I even used salt balance as I have quite a few areas that have heavy alkaline soils.
I agree, The places I hunt with the MDT I have unstable numbers as soon as I turn it on. I like to have the sensitivity and threshold as high as I can go if still jumpy I will switch on blacksand mode. The only settings I haven’t used yet are salt and tracking mode. Haven’t yet made it to one of the SoCal beaches.
The park I hunt I hear music in my stock plug-in headphones coming from one of the radio stations in the area. It’s not loud but takes some getting used to. Nothing corrects this issue on the MDT. Some may experience this.

Yesterday hunted a old 1850’s settlement here in California and used 9khz, sens 9, threshold 0, blacksand On, mixed mode. If I turned blacksand off machine becomes a bit erratic so I left blacksand On.
When I got home I did a air test with a nickel 9khz, sens 9, threshold-1, blacksand Off. I found that using threshold-1, blacksand Off you will get less depth a little more than 1/2 inch compared to threshold 0, blacksand On. Also helps with EMI if hunting around buildings. Anybody else use blacksand mode while hunting?
Here’s a pic of my finds from the old settlement.
pistol balls, rivets, rusty nails (still getting fooled on some) and some modern trash. -

Hey Denny,
I was out before sunrise New Year's Day on Juno Beach in S. Florida! Man, it was beautiful, and nice and cool out that morning! The beach was a little mushy, and the finds were few! But what a great way to kick off the New Year!!🎉🎉
Beautiful sunrise wish I was there.
Nice ring!

Nice results! Multiple silver finds make any day a good day.
I see you had Black Sand ON at both sites. Was that just a random choice, or did you find that it gave you either better depth or less chatter, or what? I assume you didn't have any actual black sand at these sites. Or did you?
Hi TallTom
I used blacksand mode at the dry river because of ground noise.(blacksand/mineralization)
For the park I was hunting it was for EMI.
Blacksand mode was a must for both sites.

Been hitting the dried up river and haven’t found anymore gold other than the one I found in November. So I decided to go for the silver. Dug up 2 silver coins in a littered gravel area. Not bad for a New Year’s Day hunt.
The MDT is good for park hunting also. Dug a deep 1888 V nickel close to 10 inches. My CTX couldn’t do that.
Settings: At the dry river. Sens 9 max, threshold 0, mixed mode, blacksand on, 9khz or 18khz.
park: sens 8, threshold -1, mixed mode, blacksand on, 18khz.

My bet it’s gold.
I haven’t found a stainless steel ring that has been repaired.

Way to go!
Congrats on your first 3 cent nickel and nugget.

Tot-lots are the easiest places to find gold and coins for someone getting into the hobby.? I noticed you found only one nickel which tells me another hunter may have been there. Some only chase low conductors and pass on high conductors. I was one of them who would pass on high conductors and chase only the lows and would hit about 10 tot-lots every Saturday. Paid off a few of my detectors.
As for demo lots I just dig everything.

The Tarsacci is what people commonly call a VLF.
VLF just means Very Low Frequency and was once meant to apply to a certain class of induction balance detectors. There are only two basic types of detectors. Pulse Induction, and Induction Balance. Or another way of looking at it, Pulse Induction or “Not Pulse Induction”. People through common usage now call Induction Balance detectors VLF detectors.
Pulse Induction is easily identified by the current to the coil completely shutting off and back on in an alternating pattern. If that is not happening, it is not Pulse Induction. Induction Balance has a continuous current flow to the coil. Minelab recognizes that Induction Balance as a term has fallen by the wayside and now refers to “Not Pulse Induction” detectors as Continuous Wave detectors, a nod to the continuous current.
...snip
Thanks Steve for the info.
I hope they do well. I really enjoy using the tarsacci and it’s not that complicated.

3030 and Equinox are just 2 completely different beasts so this statement kind of throws me. They perhaps compliment each other but there are a few things each does way better than the other. The Equinox, with its superior recovery speed would probably also do extremely well in the environment you just described vs. the 3030 and would probably be able to easily hold its own with the Tarsacci in this situation from what I know about the Tarsacci based on discussions here.
But admittedly, I have no first hand experience with it so I could be wrong. Tarsacci looks to be a great machine with an innovative niche focus, but perhaps hampered in value because the limited production requires a pretty steep price point in order to recoup the R&D investment.
That being said, I am all about using diverse vlf detector designs because even though the fundamental induction balance principle is used across the board, the different ways manufacturers choose to process signals and the variation in processing capabilities (e.g., recovery speed) and how the target information is filtered and conveyed audibly and visually to the detectorist. So despite the Equinox and CTX multi frequency implementation being different, they are both ML so I can see the attraction to trying out a different manufacturer’s machine.
Regardless of all that, great finds! Congrats. Sounds like you worked hard for them.
I bought the tarsacci to replace my Garrett ATX for beach and water finds. It is detects deeper than the equinox in salt water and heavy blacksand according to users I know who use the tarsacci. I only use the ctx 3030 for deep Silver coins at parks. I wasn’t trying to compare the equinox to the ctx.
The marketing of the tarsacci is not the way I would have gone. It seems to be word of mouth I don’t see any kind of advertisement I understand it is a company with limited funds and to keep costs down they decided to not advertise. This will probably work for some companies that have a good reputation for good detectors but for a company starting up I think it is important to have a good marketing/advertising plan on all the metal detecting forums. The release of the AQ I feel will slow sales even slower. Not a VLF or pulse I hope we can hear the truth of what it is from the designer/ engineer.
I really am enjoying the tarsacci it’s very similar to the T2 which I still use for demos and tot-lot gold.

Does they facets refract any light (rainbow) or just flat reflections? Take a loupe to it. Diamonds don't refract light.
Isn't a hybrid VLf with phase shift? What exactly is that?
It is not a genuine diamond.
I don’t know if it’s a VLF or pulse? Maybe the designer engineer will chime one day and tell us.

That ring sure looks good. You sure that stone is not real???
I tested it with my diamond tester 3 times and each time it was negative.

Isn't it about a $2000 unit? I wonder if the Equinox isn't a cheaper and more tested unit!
$1539 is what I paid. Equinox is very good detector but I already have a ctx 3030.

Hi Denny,
I would have like to seen the trash pile so I could judge the trash to treasure ratio. What do you think it was?
HH
MikeI found the gold ring pretty quick after cherry picking through the rusty cans, rusty bottle caps and digging up only 4-5 pulltabs in the first 10 minutes. Probably dug up around 100 newer bottle caps, pulltabs, aluminum foil.

Thanks for the post, the Tarsacci sort of disappeared from the radar quickly so it's good to hear a report on how it's going. To say it worked in trash better than a T2 is pretty impressive.
They need to do a better job of marketing only 2 sellers selling the tarsacci. Nasa-Tom of Dankowskidetectors.com and Greg of Trans Bay Metal Detectors. Also someone needs to answer questions on their website. I guess they are expecting users of the tarsacci to spread the word by posting finds but I don’t see many.

Detected a stretch of a river that had some erosion on the banks and sand removed down to the gravels. I dug up many coins including a buffalo nickel and a silver dime that someone was going to make into a ring. The best find was a 14k ladies ring 3.1g (not a genuine stone). Also dug up what looked like a white gold ring turned out to be stainless steel.
The tarsacci has good recovery speed like the T2 worked great in the trashy area with broken pieces of rusted old steel cans, bottles caps, bits and pieces of iron along with all the newer junk tossed into the river. The tarsacci worked better than my T2 it found targets in a area I couldn’t use the T2.
The 2 wheat pennies were dug up at a old park 6-7 inches deep. The tarsacci goes deeper it’s just that my ctx did a good job sniffing out most of the oldies at this old park.

That was my post. I contacted Garrett with the coil problem and they sent me a new replacement coil. Been 6 months and no problems. I haven’t heard of any problems from anybody else so they must have corrected the problem. When all the issues started Garrett sent out another new coil but problems were still there. Disappointed at Garrett many sold their ATX machines probably not saying anything about the coil cable problem.
There’s one guy on the ATX forum who believes the issue will still happen again and insists garrett admit that there was a problem.

What Is Your MDT 8000 Serial Number?
in Tarsacci Metal Detectors

I use mine for freshwater hunting in bad ground, relic and park hunting. I purchased my MDT in mid-October and is #000058. How many did they plan on selling in their first year?
