  1. I'm running V1.13 and am still hearing "Disconnecting" often. I did a factory reset after the update. I'll try the frequency shift to eliminate the falsing. Thanks!
  2. Does anybody know whether we're supposed to GB by touching the tip to the ground while powering on like other units? Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the clarification, C.G.! I'm definitely not the most techy guy in the world. I know just enough to be dangerous! šŸ˜
  4. He's not the only one! I had similar issues on a recent test hunt.
  5. I experienced some of the same issues.
  6. What a great Review! Thanks, 1FF18B! I wasnā€™t looking for more depth as much as I wanted a BT Pinpointer for my Legend. If I use my Z-Lynk system, itā€™s not as weatherproof. I took mine out for a short 1.5-hour test run yesterday. I updated to V1.13 and paired them at home, according to Dilekā€™s instructions. They worked fine. Neither unit automatically paired in the field. I find that pressing the Mode button on the Headphones often helps. Other problems I encountered besides connectivity, were constant squealing even while holding it in the air. Pressing the button briefly stopped that. Several times, it wouldnā€™t locate a target in the plug but would find my watch. Every time I turn the Pinpointer off, a few seconds later, she says ā€œDisconnectingā€. Thatā€™s kind of annoying. I hadnā€™t noticed any deterioration of sound with the Headphones. Iā€™m also unsure whether Iā€™m supposed to touch the tip to the ground when powering on to GB the unit. From what I understand, Bluetooth is not designed to have multiple devices operating at the same time. Thatā€™s probably why most of the companies used WIFI. I would hazard a guess that even Garrett's Z-Lynk is based on that technology. Going to BT gives customers more Headphone options but I havenā€™t had any issues with manufacturers' brands other than the unavailability of Earbuds.
  7. The best gifts are the ones you buy for yourself. You get EXACTLY what you want!
  8. I've seen Nokta exclude the box on other FREE PinPointers but the Legends I've sold so far all had boxes.
  9. It looked like it a some sort of protective strip on it. I went ahead and put a piece of transparent tape over the screen just to be safe.
  10. I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days in Stanton, Arizona Training with Rusty Curry and Miguel Ardito from Garrett. Rusty brought up the subject of ā€œGarrett Directā€ and I informed him that his Dealers werenā€™t happy with the competition. His explanation was that itā€™s not a full-blown website with ALL of their products. Itā€™s simply a platform for Garrett to move their refurbished units and slow-moving items that dealers are not ā€œpushingā€ or even ordering. Also, if you walk into their headquarters, you CAN purchase a Metal Detector AT FULL MSRP, the same as Garrett Direct. Iā€™m feeling better about it now that I have the facts. Garrett is still a first-rate Family Owned, U.S. Company and I will continue to offer their products.
  11. Steve, when I used the term "Dual Frequency", I wasn't referring to SMF. I know the Compasses were "selectable", one or the other. Didn't they (Compass) have one that had a lower frequency for coins and a high one for gold nuggets? Something like 7 and 50, making it a dual-purpose machine. Thanks!
  12. Thanks, Steve! One hears a lot of information and claims in this industry. It's sometimes hard to determine what' true and what's not. I've recently read Charles Garrett's book regarding hunting in "Sand & Sea" and the Sea Hunter PI was available at its publishing in 1990. I figured Garrett's PI progression was as you stated in your reply but maybe starting with this model, then the infinium, etc. I recently read somewhere that White's invented Multi-Frequency but was told by Jimmy Sierra that they had to pay royalties to Minelab for the DFX. If I'm not mistaken, Compass had a Dual Frequency machine before that. They are definately borrowing from each other now!
  13. I recently had a conversation with a well-known Electronic Prospector about companies, technology, etc. He stated that D/D coils go deeper than Concentric. If that's the case, why have all the PI Gold Hunters resorted to Mono coils? Bruce Candy and not Eric Foster invented Pulse Induction. The story I heard was Eric Foster first approached Whites with the PI Technology and was turned down. He then went to Minelab and the rest is History. Minelab sold Garrett the Technology to make the Axiom. I'd like to give Garrett a little more credit than that! Does anybody want to chime in?
  14. I was referring to the reintroduced 19 kHz Gold Bug with a screen. Thanks!
  15. I know of a few where the buttons have failed. Is it still under Warranty?
  16. Greetings! I have a thought that I believe, would produce the biggest-selling Gold Detector the market has seen since the introduction of the Gold Bug 2. A 71 kHz Gold Bug. It would be the lightest VLF Gold Detector out there. Minelab Gold Monster 1000 = 3+ lbs., with Battery Garrett Goldmaster 24K = 3.4 lbs. Nokta Gold Finder 2000 = 3.7 lbs. Nokta Gold Kruzer = 3 lbs. Gold Bug = 2.5 lbs. They could keep the Gold Bug @ 19 kHz and reintroduce the Pro model @ 71 kHz OR keep those two the same and make a Pro Model called the Gold Bug 71. I'd buy one as soon as they were available and as a dealer would push them like crazy.
  17. I miss the good old days when Gold Prospecting machines like the Goldmaster V-SAT. the Gold Bug 2, and Lobo Super-Traq didn't have screens. Models today are very top-heavy. On a recent trip to Northern California, I was plagued by my detector falling over while trying to isolate the target over its 5" coil. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket stand? The Arm Cuff base just isn't cutting it. TIA!
  18. Way ahead of it's time. Plus, the screen is color. I can't believe we're still looking at black-and-white readouts on Metal Detectors. Unfortunately, this tech is too complicated for Garrett to do anything with it. They like to keep things simple!
  19. This just arrived at my doorstep yesterday from the original purchaser. I can't wait to take it out. I haven't swung this model in years. When they first came out I thought they were very complicated. I felt the same way about the XLT and DFX. For some reason being a decade older makes a difference. The coolest thing is all the coils will also work on my DFX!
  20. I like Garrett for the most part, their machines are simple to operate. They're a family-owned US company. However, they tend to hold on to tech for a bit. Examples are Sea Hunter Mark 2, introduced in 1999, GTI 2500, also 1999, AT Series, Pro (2010), Gold (2011), and MAX (2018) which I only mention because to me it's just a hybrid between the Pro and Gold but with Z-Lynk Wireless. They have a reputation for quality and service not only in the US but Worldwide. They're in the box stores. They have other divisions like Security and Military (Minesweeping). They may be feeling the effects of lost sales to Minelab and Nokta. Who knows, maybe they got too many complaints from customers that Dealers aren't stocking enough. Those folks could still order online from the many Garrett Dealers out there. I don't think they're going away anytime soon but their "Sport" Sales may be lacking which may have prompted this decision. Has the Independent Dealer idea run its course?
  21. Whites sold to the Public. Always at MSRP. If someone from your area purchased at the factory, they'd give you the dealer, part of the sale. It would be nice if Garrett did something like that.
