  1. What's interesting is both of the US Distributors ditched Fisher for selling on Amazon which is almost the same thing. I'm going to have to reexamine my continuation as a Dealer or even staying in the business altogether. Maybe it's time to retire.
  2. I just received an email from my Distributor. It appears as though Garrett will be competing with their dealers.
  3. My bad! I should have looked at your location and not presumed you were in the U.S.
  4. Does anyone know if a Sunray Probe for a Prizm Series (also Coinmaster & Pro) will work on an XLT? TIA!
  5. I believe the GB Pro is the only one light enough! I've loved this machine ever since it was released. I found my first Gold Nugget with it. I bought one off a forum member for a great price, with extras. Thanks for your response, Simon! I think I'll order one.
  6. Thanks for this! The GB Pro is such a light machine. Any problems with the extra weight, Simon?
  7. I thought it automatically did that. I try to search first so I'm not repeating a topic, especially if it was a long thread. Thanks, Steve!
  8. Thanks, Simon!!!! I typed in "Detech Arrow" and just "Arrow" and nothing came up.
  9. Greetings! I did a search but can't find anything here regarding these. Has anybody used one? Are they a copy of the Bigfoot with the Circle Eight windings or just a long narrow D/D? Thanks!
  10. That seems a bit much. The bottom has fallen out of the preowned White's market. Most are going for $200 to $300 (maybe $400 in mint condition) with possibly the exception of the Spectra V3i (saw one for $750), GMX Sport (bought mine for $800. It still had the stock batteries in it), or GM24K. However, with Garrett bringing the 24K back, the Whites model isn't worth as much as it could have. You NEED a metal box White's!
  11. Looks like I have to send my beloved Apex Demo unit to the factory. In the past couple of weeks, I've noticed really faint tones in the background but nothing shows on the screen. I thought maybe it was designed that way because the signal wasn't strong enough to show a reading so the tone was softer. The problem is, I don't remember it doing that before. Mary @ Customer Service spoke with one of the Techs who said it wasn't normal and to try a Factory Reset which I did when it first started doing it.
  12. Over the years I've sold a number of used XLTs. Two programs come to mind that were not factory, "Deep Silver" and "High Trash". It didn't occur to me until I recently looked at the one I have and they are not there. Does anyone have some of these old custom programs they could share or know what books I might find them in? I did a search first and couldn't find any. The only one I have (I will look for it) is what Jimmy Sierra called the "Sierra Madre" which coupled with a 15" coil turned it into a Cache Hunter. I'll post it when I find it. It's on an external Hard Drive from when I had my shop in California. Thanks!
  13. I have acquired both an XLT and a DFX in the past year or so. I was thinking about giving one to a friend. It's been a while since I've swung either. I went back and watched the Instructional Videos and was surprised to find adjustments that have been incorporated into more modern machines. Things like Sweep Speed, Recovery Speed, Iron Bias, Tone ID, Notch Discrimination, Custom Programs and let's not forget, VDI. I'm actually leaning toward keeping the DFX and giving him the XLT. Everyone needs at least one classic Whites, right?
  14. The only thing I didn't like about that screen was it was Polarized. When looking through Polarized Sunglasses in the bright sun, the screen was BLACK due to the double Polarization. I always had to Pinpoint with my back to the sun. That tracking Software was designed by Dave Johnson who was freelancing after he left Fisher. He also sold it to Tesoro for their Lobo Super-Traq. When he went back to Fisher, he decided a GRAB button was better.
  15. Whites was my favorite company until they went under. I lived an hour and a half from the factory when they closed their doors. Before I moved back to Oregon; I went through Jimmy Sierra. The only real difference that I noticed on the MX Sport was when I air-tested a Brass button and a Minie ball, they both came up "Bullet". On the MXT, they read what they were. I mentioned that to Whites right after it came out. I doubt if they ever fixed it. Thank God the GMX Sport works the same as the 24K! I have an XLT and a DFX (Dual Frequency XLT). I don't use them much. I rent the XLT with a 15" coil out once in a while to someone looking for iron spikes in logs before they send them to the mill. I have the old "Sierra Madre" program on my External Hard drive. That was for Cache Hunting with the big coil. I need to dig that out and share it.
  16. I know the GM1000 has an "Auto" Sensitivity setting and the GF2000 doesn't. Maybe that's a significant difference. As I said, I had to run it two notches down to keep it quiet. Walt
  17. I have a buddy that has both. It would be interesting to run them on the same ground. One would think that with the higher frequency, the GF2K would excel. Walt
  18. We had at least twice the time at the first location. That's why there were more targets found. I wish I could have tested both at the same spot. My Mining Buddy was supposed to take me out, but the water pump went out on his Jeep. He has a Gold Finder 2000. We really need to make it out to our claim in Northern Nevada. Walt
  19. I see where they have finally added both the 6" Concentric and 10" Elliptical D/D to their website. They both come with a skid plate. My cost on the 10" was $17.97! Whites sold them retail for $8. While the 6" is my favorite, I'd like to see them make the 4"X6" D/D as well.
  20. I finally made it to Southern California. We came down for a family wedding, but I brought two Gold Detectors with me: the Nokta Gold Finder 2000 and the Garrett Goldmaster 24K. My brother-in-law lives in the Mojave Desert not far from the many Dry Placer areas. I called up an old Prospecting friend, and he was excited to get out and swing his Gold Bug 2. Our first stop was a Club Claim just outside Randsburg, where I had found my first nugget with a Fisher Gold Bug Pro. The weather was perfect, not too hot, and not much wind. The first machine to be tested was the Gold Finder 2000. I had set it up with the 5” D/D coil but after a few minutes realized that ground coverage wasn’t going to be great. I went back to the truck and swapped it out for the larger Concentric Coil. Rather than use the External Speaker with Headphones, I paired it with the Green 2.4 gHz Wireless. Unfortunately, it did not turn off the External Speaker, and I heard it out of both. Other times, it would switch between the two. I finally decided to just run without them as I was in Snake Country. The Mojave Green Rattlesnake is the most tenacious of the SoCal Vipers. They have been known to chase vehicles. I had to set the Sensitivity two notches from the top to avoid Ground Noise. Even with the Ferro Check, this is pretty much a “dig-everything” proposition, which is the nature of Gold Prospecting with a Metal Detector. The indicators were all there, Quartz, Epidote (Greenstone), and Magnetite (Hot Rocks), which to my amazement, it did not see. While I didn’t find any gold, it did the job on Airgun pellets which read on both sides of the Ferro Check, plus bullet, and copper jacket shards. I found a few iron items such as boot tacks but because they were rusty, they didn’t always peg to the left. All in all, I would recommend this detector to anyone looking for a simple-to-operate Gold machine. It’s 16 kHz higher than a Gold Monster 1000 and only 10 kHz lower than the GB2. According to Dilek at Nokta, the speaker on the detector does not turn off when paired with external sources like the Wireless Module and Green Headphones. Our second stop was the Coolgardie area north of Barstow. The goal was to hunt Dry Washer Tailing Piles. I was immediately reminded that where people work, there’s more TRASH! I started with the GF2000 but changed over to the 24K with the 6” Concentric coil. The ground coverage was good, but I was after depth on “Tailings”, so the Mono was a good choice. My buddy brought a rake. I should have borrowed one from my Brother-in-law. I like the simplicity of the GF2K, but I’ve been swinging and selling detectors for over 20 years. It’s a little “too easy” for my taste. I love the features and adjustments on the 24K! I set it up with the Garrett Z-Lynk Wireless Headphone System. We had gotten a little disoriented so didn’t have as much time as we had at the other location. However, my first target was a small piece of Birdshot. I had it set up with Sensitivity at 2 and Volume at Boost 2. This most likely will be my “go-to” VLF machine. Here's the link to my Facebook album from the trip: (2) Facebook Because we were pressed for time in Coolgardie, I didn’t take any photos of those Tailings. The first blue pan is my finds from the Randsburg area with the GF2K. The Terra Cotta pan is from Coolgardie with the GM24K. The second blue pan is my trash which mostly came from north of Barstow.
  21. The place I'm thinking of is a lake beach swimming area that had a Diving Platform. I'd like to dredge where the platform was. I remember it from when I was a teenager. There might be too much "Treasure" to just detect it. I suppose I'll have to "test" it first. Walt
  22. Greetings! A few decades ago, Coin and Relic Dredging was popular. Keene even made a 3" model with Special Riffles. Other than where it's been outlawed, do people still do this? Thanks! Walt
  23. Sorry for coming late to this conversation as I take the winter off from detecting. I've found that sometimes it's caused by too high Sensitivity settings. I tested two different machines in the same area and they both were knock-sensitive until I turned the Gain down. My go-to settings on the 24K are Sensitivity on 2 and Volume set at Boost 2. It runs quiet and smooth!
  24. I was not aware of this new video series, Simon. Thanks for sharing!!!! I love the simplicity of the Apex. It's pretty much a turn-on-and-go machine. The only thing it may be lacking is the ability to overcome Iron-masking coupled with adjusting the Sweep Speed, like some of the other MF detectors. I've had to do what I call the "Coil Wiggle" in order to pull a high-tone target out from low Iron Audio signals. Even with the Axiom, Garrett believes in the KISS principle!
