  1. This is the one I were hoping was going into production when I first heard about it. Instant thought was 'you beauty, can be mounted on a straight shaft in front of the handgrip .....huge deal breaker for me. Attention NENAD.... If you read this thread mate, would you know if we will end up with them here, or a purchase from hellyco the only option? Ta...
  2. There were replicas made that were some type of light metallic alloy and coated gold paint. I bought one for $270 from a detector shop around 87-88. They weren't too heavy. They were really well done with original looking pock-marks ect. For some reason they stopped being made, maybe due to an infringement somewhere. You still see them every now and then. Most are a slightly smaller version. My girlfriend stole mine off me when we split up, she probably thought it was real. Come to think of it, she thought New Zealand was joined to Australia by a land bridge so I can't blame her.
  3. The professor that invented the VFlex technology is an absolute genius. Before the first batch of XTerra's he refined a few of Minelab's units. Both the Audio and Tracking abilities of them. A real master of Digital Processors too.
  4. In Metric - 45 x 19 x 9.5 cm or thereabouts. Weight is 845 ounces (874.82) For some reason 720 odd oz's was talked about for a while. Don't know why. Junk would have been anyones first guess, but apparently when colour was first spotted he thought it'd be 50 odd oz's.
  5. Not to get off topic, it's probably more on-topic than not... But can anyone remember that entire Deepseeker Range of units? The reason I ask, and you may remember this Norvic, is at the end of the range Garrett bought the last model out with much heavier stand-out colour along The dial side of the machine. Kind of yellow/black decals. You bought them in a complete package of straight shaft with armrest that suited hipmounting of the unit and extra long coil lead and adapter, another armrest for shaft mounting it, and the full array of coils. It was a very decent package and may have even had a different battery tray and size. They behaved much more stable than the earlier models. Just can't remember if a different retune system or ground balance pot was changed.
  6. I really like the idea Goldgetter. Looking good. I wonder about length that the shaft fully extends to, would it suit a tall person? And if that black tape you have on near the bottom of the handgrip starts leaking sticky gunk off to the sides in a few months, try a length of Cohesive equine bandage, that elastic type bandage that only grips to itself and has no residue.
  7. Yeah, Garrett ADS ...I forget the exact measurement of the coil, but the midsize above 8", more than likely called a 10", but not the largest. Not that it would have mattered. No dowsing rods used to find it, no hiring of well drilling. Very close to God that week the family were, and found inspiration in prayer. Talking with God often. He got the 'feeling' he should walk to a certain spot behind an old school house, the same superstitious feeling most of us have got at least a couple of times in our life just before hitting gold, ....and the Lord rewarded him with that loud deepseeker Phaaaaarp... Phaaaaarp.
  8. All Mono's from Nuggetfinder and Detech fare much better than the TDI stock coil. It's a rather dull one. Looking forward to hearing how the Ultra Sensing coil works the ground as well as the signal response to your targets when you get them outside.
  9. To be honest Matt I reckon you made the best decision in buying and running you're Zed. You've had the GPX's and SDC sussed out well, and now a new to you unit that lets face it ...once you gell with it you aren't missing out. I think you can be pretty safe in the knowledge that you're running the best scenario. I know there are quite a few that say that such and such coil on the GPX brings it right to the edge of Zed comparability, and good on em, that's confidence for you. But it aint so. Norvic's opinion on un-dug comparisons are pretty spot on. The newer coils do give an edge, that's concrete now, although not in all ground types and not close to a few old goldfield towns. I do know that two of them give me a distinct advantage on some queer ground types, but those coils are on earlier units than the 5000. And the Zed does not like this type of ground as they are unusual heavy mineral run-off type of sloping gully's that finish in large square yardage of hardened deep ground. Another thing to consider is that while the newer range of coils are behaving and giving this advantage as per advertised, there are some earlier units in the Minelab range that get a touch finicky with them. But I guess the same could be said for quite a few coils that have been on the market for years. And even amoung the same model ie: 4500 (a few distinct varieties in that mix) you can find a unit that particular hates some coils.
  10. No worries Matt. Wasn't having a go at the title at all. Hey, how you liking the SDC?
  11. Oh and just a quick disclaimer Matt....I'm certainly no expert, that's for sure. But I'm bloody good at my own decision making, and believe everyone else should be too.
  12. I believe it's more sig response performance than mere placebo affect. They are definitely more sensitive these latest runs of coils. But they are not a Huge game changer yet. Although that placebo would turn quickly into "coil confidence" once a new user to a particular coil hits that first piece of gold with it. Just to use this size comparison alone ...Elite 11" v Evo 12" v any Minelab 11" or Advantage 12" mono for instance - for me and the majority of the ground I work the Elite has a sharper more pronounced response than the Evo though is more prone to ground noise, and the Minelab's and Advantage run quieter. But these are only Slighter in both response and ground handling. Noticeable enough to make solid decisions about the difference in performance, but not enough to make me care less which coil is on the end of the lower rod. And given the depth advantage to larger target sizes than these tiny sub gram pieces, I still believe that the Stock Minelab mono's and Advantage belongs on that lower rod more often than not, for me. Then we step into the next size of 14" Elite, 15" and 17"x13"Evo and 14" Spiral Mono and Detech Spiral 15"DD.Then you have to run through your whole best suited for ground type, mineralization, and preconceived idea of depth of gold and a few other factors. And all to determine the best coil for sub gram tiny gold. I went through all that crap back in the late 80's to early 90's. Had the obsession with tiny gold. Took a couple of years to get over it. Ever since then the goal went back to its origin .... fingernail size and up, and the best coil I could use on that ground for those responses at depth. A couple of 14" coils in DD and Mono, and an 8" DD and a 12" Advantage Mono (very underrated coil) and I'm happy in the knowledge that I'm not missing anything that'd change my year for the better. And I still hit shallow specs that I spend 10 minutes searching for!
  13. No, the 8" DD is not Spiral Wound Bamboo, but is Litz Wire. While I haven't done head to head with the coils on the same day, your experience with a smaller coils sensitivity to smaller gold holds true between these two sizes. Even though the much larger 15" Spiral is a sensitive coil on sub gram pieces, the 8"DD will hit them deeper and with a much more refined sig response, especially within the centre two inches of the coil over a target. The 8"DD is a nice light solid little coil and smooth on troublesome ground. Strongly built, no falseing, it feels how a small solid coil should.
  14. Really nice looking area, green and the cones on the ground... Nice gold and another good trip out Calgold. The country reminds me how our gold bearing Ironbark Forrest's amoung the gold workings used to look pre - 2002/3 when solar flare activity kicked off our 10 year drought and bushfires took care of the rest. Moonscape now. And what is Manzanita? Those eye-gouging twigs from the grey trees, or a poison oak type bush?
  15. This Makro 2 has my full attention now... For the reasons Nenad and Steve have pointed out, along with it's medium freq,(would have prefered a lower freq and a straight shaft with stand to protect the rear assembly, but that's only a small whinge) Good on them! My first positive post on a Nokta/Makro unit too, except the CoRe which I've always liked and have applications for. I may becoming less negative in my middle age.
  16. # Go ahead, knock the Infinium. Let the elitist expose themselves - go ahead! # I'm no elitist that's for sure. And I don't expose myself (well I've never been arrested for it) But the Infinium .....It was a sh*t of a unit. # The Infinium is, hands down, one of the best mid priced detectors out there. Don't matter where you go, wet or dry, it does a good job - unless you want to dwell on the minutia. # I wouldn't call a terrible balance and tracking system, or horrible audio, or lack of both sensitivity and depth 'minutia' Bearcat....I'd call it majorutia. # Give me any mid priced VLF and I will beat it, without a doubt, with my Infinium. # How about 6 to start with. You wouldn't think someone would want a comparison between a PI and VLF's, since you'd naturally assume the PI would handle hot ground better and would certainly track through or at least lock the balance to that ground better than a VLF and hunt deeper than it. But sadly that's not the case. # So, all you Zed waving elitist, who have forgotten what detecting is all about - take up my challenge - try to beat my Infinium with any VLF you chose. Ya, I thought so...... # Like I said, I'm no Zed waving elitist (they didn't suit me) I don't think anyone is. Those that kept em love em. I'm sure the guys running them are glad they did buy them..... good on em and half their luck. And I've never heard one guy putting down and bagging another machine just because he runs a Zed. And they are getting out and doing what detecting is all about - being outside surrounded by beautiful country, detecting gold and having a ball. Now, to your VLF challenge.... The Infinium with either the stock 14" DD or Mono coils (I won't mention the falseing little 8" mono) cannot get to the depths on both small or larger gold hits on targets in-situ in medium to hot ground, or work through that ground, than the entire Minelab vlf platform, starting with the first truly good unit of the dual freq manually ground balancing green box Ace Dual and ending with the current Eureka. One in particular was twice the unit the Infinium was, it was engineered by a Nuclear Physicist (hint, it's on my avatar and made the Garrett act like a toy in comparison) # One more thing, have you paid for that Zed yet, I mean with gold recovered? # Nah, I never bought one, just used a couple. They did not enjoy the ground types I would purchase one for. No gold found with them over that time either. # So there, the next time you want to start bashing machines just remember, people love what they hunt with and have confidence just as large as the Zed collective.......probably a better day not kicking themselves because of the sky high price. In the end it's all about the end of the day and the experience of the great outdoors. # # I have confidence in my Infinium - # Everyone has a right to give their own run-down on a machine. Along with their opinion both good and bad. And when someone like myself spends big money for a sad unit, I'll express my thoughts. It's not detector bashing! It doesn't worry me in the least if someone never liked or gelled with a 2200, F19, or a 3000 or a GT16000. Couldn't care less.
  17. No sweat... I love the F19! Got one in that first batch of Maple Camo. Lovely to look at ...such a sweet unit with that magnificent Ground Grab balance (pretty sure DaveJ was responsible for that and it functioned brilliantly in the hottest ground) I was going to match it with the Ultimate 13" coil due to amount of pure sensitive gain it could push through medium dirt but didn't get around to buying one it. They'd make a good match!
  18. That's for sure Nenad. Pity we had so much trouble re: dealerships in the past couple of years. Pleasure to have a Distributor that has both business ethics and knows his product line. I haven't run a Spiral DD on a GP series yet, hopefully Tuesday on my 3000. But I've got a feeling the match will work hotter ground far better with near equal sensitivity versus same size mono. Yep, those small solid round Detech mono's are dong proof, much like a 12" Advantage. I bet if you dropped a brick on them they wouldn't false. Thanks heaps for the Relic Striker info too Steve! I'm pretty sure the only other coil they can run with apart from the big SEF is a 13".
  19. I don't think many of us mind having to slightly mod units for differing things like stands on an SDC, Audio Enhancement, Covers and re-mounting units onto more ergonomic shafts that by rights should have been handled correctly by the manufacturer in the first place. And none of the company's are immune to that, it's par for the course and expected by us that use detectors ...we cannot expect university trained engineers to get get things right can we? But things like these breakdowns that are major pains are verging on the ridiculous.
  20. This is the discontinued EDS Winner that runs pre-set balance only.. I've never had problems with these regarding electronic issues and coils. But the plastic boxes and battery flap, along with the breakage of the two plastic box-pins the go through the shaft the same way the Garrett Ace units do, upset me no end. Plus they came on child-like s/rod shafts. This little fellow kicks the ass of many VLF's, not counting the build issues of course.
  21. Yeah YubaJ, they are based on the original Desert Gold on this link to another DP thread... http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/701-detech-gold-catcher-anyone-hear-about-this/ I've done plenty of work with one, but never again. The Gold Catcher may be discontinued soon as they aren't cutting the mustard and are limited to the quieter mullock, tailings and benign wash in gully's. They act exactly the same way as the EDS Plus, but a bit more finicky due to being double the freq. The biggest problem is the ground balance. You'll see in this pic below (as well as a pic of a cheap broken box mount), the face of an old EDS Plus in 14 kHz. I'm sure the dials and switches are exactly the same as on the Gold Catcher but my units aren't in sight at the moment. The ground balance knob has to be depressed to activate it, which causes malfunctions after a few months and the units go haywire. The European guys got the shit's with them in the end. I couldn't get longer than two months straight out of a unit. But you can use them in Pre-set Balance Disc mode with no Threshold activated, and they push out tremendous gain through quiet ground. Yeah Stinky Pete's clips carry some low audio so it's hard to judge sometimes. He is the Aus distributor. It's good to have a Distributor/Dealer that is honest and reliable. I don't know him personally but buy units and coils off him. Top bloke to deal with. The Detech PI coils in Closed and SEF are good coils, and the new Spiral wound DD's are good, as is the new Mono. The VLF SEF coils are top notch. He's a very clean handsome guy that wears cologne ....hence the nickname Stinky Pete. The Detech mob are putting out new digital Chaser VLF's, and already make good coils. I wish they'd stop mucking around and have a decent crack at producing a Pulse Induction unit. They have a unit out called a Relic Striker, running in 4.8kHz with a massive SEF coil on it. It has a BOOST to pump gain flat out. It just may be a top machine to run in hot ground and hit smallish to large gold at good depths, even in it's 4.8kHz. I'll find out soon enough. Steve might be able to pop up a high resolution pic of one ....I can't as my pics come up low res due to the Android phone. They have a Camo paint job on the metal box, straight shaft.
  22. And to think that within 2 years of release, Garrett would have known all of the problems with the Infinium - bad ground balance, horrible Audio sound and height, terrible shaft, useless coils and size range, stupid headphone set up. This could all have been fixed and a new model to replace it. But no, they chose to sit with their hands under their arse and take the money. No tears in seeing this detector disappear. Not so sure about the Nokta/Makro company listen intently. I think they know precisely what they will produce, and suck in those that think they've had an input.
  23. While the early Detech's had extremely cheaply made control boxes and shafts. These new Chaser's will be very well made and ergonomic.
  24. It was my understanding that Nokta mentioned a while ago that the NOKTA IMPACT would be a unit built for Kellyco only, as a more or less exact copy of the original Racer, only on an ergonomic shaft as opposed to the terrible Racer shafts. As far as performance on the Goldfields go, both the CoRe, Fors Gold and Racer are left wanting badly. The Gold Racer I haven't used yet but will very soon, and even with it's new 'intelligent vsat, I don't hold much hope for it due to such a high frequency, limiting it to surface and just a few inches depth on smallish gold. The most interesting units are one that a lot of guys aren't picking up on yet, that is the release of the new Detech Chaser's in a few weeks. I guess Detech didn't get involved in all the cash for comments the other brands chose to push their units with. Even judging by the now discontinued analogue Detech units as the Winner and Plus and finally Reacher ....these early models absolutely kill Nokta/Makro units on both quiet and hot ground. So the new digital Chaser's are looking pretty good. The first one will be in 14kHz, then another in 28kHz, and the third in 4.8kHz like the Detech Relic Striker that puts an enormous amount of gain out of it's very large stock SEF coil. The Chaser will have a full coil selection to boot.
  25. The Ground Grab will work excellent, that's a given with these. But I have a gut feeling the Tracking will be just as useless as that on the MXT/GMT unlike the XTerra 705.
