Keep what you have and enjoy. PI's are just deeper and can slow you down ..unless you have a clean beach.
Sorry about your experience with the AQ, seems a few have had issues.
Are you missing anything without a PI.. I would say very little. Me, am I missing any gold.. I am sure I am but the excalibur is keeping me happy for now.

Your right big difference with gel pads.thanks again! I know what you mean about not getting a feel for conditions.Still working(2 more years) limited to weekends tides and weather.Still making some old finds mostly in shallow water,I know there must be more deeper just have not been so lucky there.I know you mostly hunt in pinpoint but I have not had same success I seem to lose stability so I mainly hunt disc.Always look forward to your posts for tips and amazing finds.
Glad they worked out for you. I just another set, they seem to only last about 3 years...
Just finished one of my excaliburs, PP button went bad so I redid all again and made some adjustments to things I seen that needed to be changed. Did not do any video's on how but once I've used it a few more months I share more on a video. I can tell you the amount of noise difference is stunning, from one of my regular excaliburs to the one I just finished. Once the pods controls are totally isolated from saltwater the only other source of possible noise is the coil, and this can be controlled with better coil control. I used one of my regular excaliburs yesterday and the difference is very noticeable.

Final Modified Version of my Excalibur. Was able to silence the machine in rough waters by removing all of the knobs except one which ..and it is sealed from the saltwater by a o-ring and custom easy, fine tune knob. Stability is very good close to shore where water is smacking the control pod and the coil wire... I do need to get a shorter Allen set screw for the sealed on/off threshold knob I made...but for now the allen is coated with aquaseal and the internal shaft on the pot has a plastic cover to break contact with the SS knob shaft. Not real happy about the toggle on the handle which is used to go between PP and disc. But I had a bad batch of the IP68 yellow momentary push buttons ..... had two fail on me.... I was right in the middle of a good hunt and had one go out on me..so I pulled it out and chopped it off to finish the hunt., got home and made more changes to the excal. Hopefully in the future they can get better quality switches.
And special Thanks to Steve detector rods for rushing a few of the cam locks for the lower shaft..., so much easier adjusting the coil for the hunt, which is a very important part of coil control and Pin pointing the target.....
Picture of the hunt I was in the middle of and the yellow IP68 button went on me.. I can not stand to hunt in disc, which was the mod it was stuck in..chop-chop and all was good..

4 gold, but the harley stainless ring has a gold eagle .. 39 silvers .. 6 stainless or titanium wedding bands .. the rest copper, aluminum and iron (junkers)...all but three were dug in the dirt, mostly local parks .. in those parks I also dug 14 other gold pieces .. broaches, pendants and cufflinks .. I just started learning water hunting about a month ago and I'm guessing that because the hunters around me run a real high discrimination in the parks .. they probably do the same in the water.
39 silver is excellent. Really your numbers are not bad at all. Thanks for sharing.

Nice collection!
I'm wondering what your ratio is on ..Gold, Silver, junk.. Now days Gold is hard to come by, silver is not as bad but the new age metals are taking over.

Things have been weird lately. After a long time away from Metal Detecting I suddenly get real interested in collecting coins and have been buying some. So I think again about detecting as maybe I could find a few good ones this way. Of course I gotta go to Prospecter/Detector to see what the latest greatest is. Unfortunately I can't get on the website? I'm thinking what happened? I try for a few days in a row to get on and I'm starting to wonder if somehow I had been banned or something from the website. I did see something on Face book about Steve going to Alaska for a while but I never heard of him shutting the site down while he was away before. I was so relieved when I got a message today about the site being down and now back up. First thing I come across at the website is about the new Fisher Impulse AQ. I start reading about it and watching a couple youtube videos and think this looks great! I see there is a lot of discussion here about it over a year ago so I'm thinking this thing must be for sale by now. I check and see none at Gerrys website and none for sale on ebay so I came back here and start reading up on this thread through all 14 pages where it kinda dies on May 14 2020. But then again that's about the time Covid started hitting hard so I suppose that could explain the delay?
Lets say it is still evolving. I believe the Limited is available thru Fisher now but I would advise waiting for the final version.
When? I have no clue.

How do you like the AQ?How do you choose which machine to use?AQ to clean up after excal or vice versa. Thanks for all your advice and God Bless.
Your Welcome!....I love both the Excal and AQ. Right now my main machine is the Excalibur, Problem is, my hunts are so far a part it keeps me out of touch with the conditions. I doubt if I've been out more then 10 times since May. I use the AQ as a PI and if you want it to work it's best you have to know what your walking into..
Here is my work on my AQ I got from Rick, warranty expires fall this year so I want to make sure the main controls are out of contact with the saltwater. Come winter this will be on the AQ.. And No one has every had any issues with the AQ flooding or leaking, I'm just installing some insurance.

Sorry I just seen this return post. It looks good except the coil to endcap, I have a extra double endcap I can send for free to replace the one.. If you need. The coil to endcap cable looks dangerous, but it could be a bad picture....
Also.......for sure fill the tub, set the detector in the water.. submerged , turned on the machine, put the head phones on and listen for at least a hour. I'm guessing you will get EMI which will make it hard but listen for the machine to act crazy, like falsing or stopping. Its going to be hard in the house, so If you do take it out in the real world......... I would go slow once under. Any abnormal falsing, or it acting stupid ..get it out of the water ..pull the head phone endcap and check for water. I might recommend having some DeoxIT D5 around just incase you need to clean the board fast.
My opinion, change that coil fitting out this winter or sooner. Other then that I think you did a great job.. You will find the more you work on it the easier it comes as you learn.

Something that really helps.. Gel ear pads.. Video is 11 years old but will give a good idea. I use aquaseal to put on the one's I listed. These listed fit all head phones, not perfect but very close.
There are many other types out there but I like the ones I have picture below the best. They last about 3 to 4 years with heavy hunting. And remember all of this info is at least 10 years old.

Hi Joe
I notice a repaired coil in the picture. Do you notice any improvement in noise reduction with this coil? I have been doing some experimenting with the Equinox coil.
Thanks Dave
Dave, I'm not sure on that for I have done several different things at once to the machine. The one I am using now is pictured below. I have done several others over the years, for others, and no reports of more or less noise.
Below the repaired is .24 (4 lead) 20gauge cable....., the next round is .28 (4 lead) 18gauge shielded.

Like the idea of thinner... less resistance. I'm working on a design and now testing. Reducing the amount of noise you get in rough waters or when you hunt right at the water line. And this is with the Minelab Excalibur. The amount of noise reduction has been amazing. It allows me to hunt right in the splash and extremely rough waters with little to no noise. So far having the machine at a different position, protected by my arm, when hunting (in one swing direction)...then removal of all, except one control knob seems to reduce the noise to less then 5%. Then with a shorter sweep of the coil, or coil control, it's almost silent. I do have a few more changes to do on the next go-round, which I have started building another machine. I want to run the coil cable inside of the shaft and make it a straight shot, coil to control pod. And the next coil has a new cable which is shielded.

Got into a very old beach this past weekend. Little surprised to see someone has been hammering the place fairly good. Looked like they were working a trough, "Low area" close to shore and maybe cherry picking? For there were several deep signals left ... So I dug all.. Was using the Fisher AQ PI.. One Gold Ring, and 8 more Silvers.. couple V Nickels and a transit toke from Washington DC. The wedding band is brass, the silver came up clean for this location and uncommon to find these dates, so that area I will be watching close. These troughs in time can slowly move into un-hunted areas.

Another shot by the master.
A question for You Joe...
What are You using as a handle? I'm getting Crazy with bike terminals without to have the right inclination for a good hand drive.
99%of the bike stuff Is straight and not angled like Your.
Is that a specific shaft by some brand or not?
Clean setup as usual for the control box.
Porn to Say the right term😆
You need to find the two piece type, the top handle part is glued to the mount. There are a few other brands that have them just like, I seen on Amazon. Stay away from the real cheap ones, I tried them several years ago. Very easy to break. The brand I used was Avenir. Also you can pull the top part of the handle off and replace with a strait piece from one of the curved stock minelab excalibur blue shafts, cut it to fit.

Nice to find gold. Is that one find a cross?
I was in a freshwater lake this morning and it was windy. A lot different than an ocean I would guess. The waves were pushing and pulling me. One wave hit me in the chest and water went up my nose. I quit after 45 min. Didn't find anything either.
Strange looking and more then likely dated 40's to 50's? Most of the coins were in that period.
