I would dig any tight, small signal for a while and see what turns up.  The ground conditions there may limit you to 8" for solid sounding signals.

And I Love what Schoolofhardnoxs said on the deep stuff. Digging one ways, iffy faints and targets that null or jumping ID can be prime targets. ..

Here are a few Old nickel rings. (Not marked) Then another I am not sure, it is marked Nickel / Silver. 

Just looked up, the single ring is German Silver..

Love the red stone ring!

I've found several nickel rings but they have that clean look but nickel colored.  I have one I found that is marked Nickel / Silver. (which is German Silver)  When I found it I though gold but for some reason it looked different. Very clean but just not the right look. See if I can find the picture...

You should be able to tell the difference if you scratch it on the testing stone. 

Gold is soft, NIckel will be hard...Nickel/Silver.. I'm not sure.

Pins are no different on the old Minelab sovereign and Excalibur shafts (set low). I've broke a few of them over a 12 year period but never a Whites. I broke them because of me leaning on them when digging which will cause stress cracks then a eventual fail. Where is my Buddy Dew, that's his number one thing to break. 

Sorry to hear Skulldiver, I lost a Excalibur about 4 years ago to the saltwater. Could not get home in time to save her. You get to where you have a relationship with these machines when they continue to work there magic. Gone, but not forgotten....🏴‍☠️

Congrads on the new coil!

When they first sent me one to test last fall they sent it with out the lower rod also. I was a little puzzled at first....I notified them of the problem and they were very fast in getting one out to me.. Mistakes happen..... More then once looks like.

Having the 8 inch coil and not being able to use it right away ..... I grabbed one of my Xtra Excalibur lower shafts and took off about 1/32th of a inch on each side. Fit perfect...

Enjoy that 8 inch.. And keep us informed on how it works.

Normally I use USPS but they had stopped all deliveries to some countries during that time.... the endcaps would have cost about 35 dollars...to the land downunder.

I remember one time I shipped GG head phones over night to Shizuoka Prefecture Japan .....someone in great need ..it was FEDX 285.oo. And it ended up being 2 day shipping time. He did getting several Plat...and killer golds.

I'm not sure why but I can tell you once you start shipping over seas and specially Downunder, Australia... if something goes wrong with the detector it cost a fortune to ship. Fisher is very good at paying shipping both ways on warranty issues......I've shipped stuff to Australia before, detectors, parts and the shipping is insane. Example ... 150 USD dollars to ship two endcap...Then add in import duties. To much risk and cost.

Once they get service setup in Euro and other places I can see service being easier to the other side of the world.. All of this is me guessing also.

The machine to have would be the TDI Pro in that box...SEA GHOST has really done some nice mods over the last 2 years.

Lots of old swim spots on the rivers in Illinois from what I hear. I'm not sure if your near Tom Hiluxyota but I really enjoy his river hunt video's. 

Very nice setup and it is in your back yard...👍...You can really learn a lot about a detector doing testing and playing with the settings in a test garden ...... Good Luck!

I've had a swing arm (air) test bed for many years. Although not as nice as yours I've learned so much about my machines and target responses. My favorite testing has been head phones and how to get the most out of them, audio wise.

I've tested, No performance gain due to the small amount cut off....18 inches a VLF and if I remember correct a subject over on (Findmall) Technology forum many years ago  .......

Only gain I have found .......  less chance of the cable moving or exposure to the conditions, with I have tried several different things, one was running the coil cable thru the shaft.. .. and exact length needed. (both pictured)

I love going thru and reading the old Findmall post with Eric, Wire Chief, Mr Bill, Reg...etc..

The capacitance and the resistance of the coil cable has to be taken into consideration as a total value of the coil.

Depending on the exact particulars, chopping off a lot of cable would change the way the electronics looks at the coil. Adding length would affect it also.

Now in reality I have chopped fairly good sized amounts off of cables in order to permanently pole mount the electronics box. The need to get rid of excess cable length was there. I have not noticed a drop off in performance, although it could happen depending on the unit.

I won't be making them for sales. Just me playing around. The Excalibur battery pictured ran for 4 days straight (106 hours) but it runs Hot, (4 18650 Samsung 3500mAh 16.8) which I am afraid might not be good on some days or machines. So Another one with 26650 batteries is planned but lower voltage. Steve sent me his extra EBL 5000mAh, so a 3 cell will be next but with the big batteries, 12.6 volts.

Looks like a great time out! Mini tsunami, know them well in the Northern part of the Bay, I've heard down in the lower part of the bay the subs coming thru really throw a good one.

Audio is extremely loud on the AQ then add in my head phones (105 to 117db) So much nicer being able to edit when I swinging the scoop around or I am digging and there is some shallow targets near the coil.

Out of the 27 golds, 7 to 9 may have been found with my Excalibur. I use the AQ and Excal about 50/50 based on location. But when I go thru a spot there is nothing and I know there is gold. The AQ gets the call, and it produces. During the same time period of the 27 AQ gold the Excalibur got 15, but at different beaches...  I'm Blessed in the ability of choosing the right machine and putting myself in the right spot. The AQ has increased my chances of finding Gold ... worthy of purchasing another.

Here is the perfect example of a spot I've had guys tell me, don't bring me back here...reason, lack of targets and for that reason it was the first stop for my testing of the AQ.. Out of 4 hunts there last summer the AQ scored 2 gold rings and one gold medallion. After that I knew I was in Love..
