Im curious as well why they went with a standard style ears and lower shaft connector.   Will they change the larger coil on the production models ears?   Anyone had trouble with the larger coils ears?  Could be a cost saver to just beef up the ears on the larger standard if its going to be used in the water.

No clue why they went with the regular ears on the 8 inch............... Both are fine with me, both work as they should with no problems here. The fact you get a lower rod with the 8 is a Big plus...disconnect the coil fitting from the main housing....flip the lever...pull out the rod .... set aside,  line up the new coil and rod....slide in, close latch......connect coil fitting to the housing....DONE>>> how easy is that... 😍

The big coils ears stay the same on the New Production model, as far as I know.

  2. Just my opinion...It has all the characteristic of a small coil. Depth is above normal for it's size but still shy of the big coil. If your hunting difficult water it's a much better choice. And I only use the AQ because it is Deep...So the bigger coil is my favorite.

If I remember correct, on a buried yard stick nickel I could get it at 15 ..  faint at 16.. all metal, which is very good for it's size

And it does come with it's own rod so changing coils is very easy.

And here’s me going back to a stock battery......well not quite....it’s a 3 x 18650 setup @ 11.1v. In another thread, I mentioned the super hotspot on my TDIBH board when running the 14.4v battery which got me worried. Being sealed up, there's probably less opportunity for the heat to dissipate. Even when opened, the hotspot was severe.....couldn’t touch it for more than a second or so without burning a finger.
My depth results were a maximum increase of 2” over the stock battery. In fact, my current 11.1v Lithium setup sits in the middle (depth wise) between the stock battery and my retired 14.4v battery so I’m more than okay with just the 1” drop.

Tony did I see one of your batteries with a LED volt meter? If so I was wondering how it held up.

  4. One thing about the beach. anything is possible.

    Sadly it's stamped

    NET WT

1.00 OZ and only weights in at 24.5 grams

I wonder if a real one would bend easy...being .9999

Good Luck, got to be a real .9999 out there some where..

  5. Couple things, You Killed the Silver! Wow!

8 hours... You killed that too!! Wow!! I can bet you slept well...

Crazy you found no gold, that is a lot of silver...Is there some type of pattern to where the coin lay..is there Iron in that mix..?

Here, if I'm finding silver or brass .....gold is near..iron can be just in spots...... in that mix..like something broke up and now is within a few feet radius.

Has to be gold soon! Good Luck!

After confirming with another expert , Famous Craig , we have come to the conclusion that this is what we like to call a "Junker". I trashed one similar about 8 months ago. Bottomline is your acid is eating that thing away. Real , solid gold will not do that...Your Welcome !

Not completely true, if it is rolled gold or hand laid you can peel the gold off..which may not be much weight but there is enough gold to be saved that it can be sold as scrap. Which I have done before when sell junk gold...(Teeth, Earrings, grills, gold emblems, and gold peelings) Takes about 5 minutes. Now the base metal maybe worthless which I would call junk.

On Gold filled and Gold plated items..(1/XX) ....don't even waste your time, they flake and do not peel off in one piece.

    Greetings, gentlemens!
Will any of sound boosters/enhancers/amplifiers for metal detectors work adequately with the Minelab Sovereign?

Have anybody conducted any compatibility tests with this metal detector?
    Best regards!
    Slava

I have worked on the Brother of the Sovereign and experimented with several audio amps. They work on the Minelab Excalibur but only using All metal where you can seperate the Threshold from the volume. One of the better was DOC's Audio amp. See if I can pull up some old pictures. I did end of finding I could make a set of head phones that worked as good as the Amped up set and water proof.
