A quality set of headphones to keep outside sounds out IS A MUST at the beach. For beach use with the Sovereign GT I use the Black Widows. I also use the same Black Widows with the Equinox.
Yes, no doubt...The Black Widows are excellent.....I use the Peltor 105's / now 3m 31db with "Gel pads"...which the gel pads help a lot. If you look at the chart I posted the shullies 2463's use the same speakers as the Black Window's,... the audiosears 2463's...excellent if you hunt in discriminate . Tones.... I found the Piezo's are better for hunting in All metal.

Joe, what headphones would you recommend for an Excalibur 2? I taped up the vent holes on the stock headphones, which helped out quite a bit. But, if switching them out makes that big of a difference, I want to get that done asap!
Kevin anything is better then the stock head phones but I have to say none of the after market phones really float my boat either. Other then Tony Eisenhower's and they are still not up to my standards on volume. Here is a Sound pressure chart I did several years ago on a few sets, the skullies are the head phones I made and use. (Which I no longer sell) But you can see the crazy difference in audio levels.. Hunting in PP with the Excalibur the audio has to be blasting to hear the deep faint targets. If your using stock Yellow head phones your missing targets. And another factor is being able to block out as much (as possible) .... outside noises (ambient noise}. I have my best hunts when the water is calm.
I would recommend Tony's headphones for now, but in the distant future there could be a killer set of headphones offered to water hunters. Look at the size of the Piezo compared to what I use in my skullies, which blast. The other guy .. is a monster!

Nice video Joe! The pinpoint mode is really the way to go. It certainly punches deeper and is not as noisy as Disc especially in the salt water.
What really makes the difference with the Excalibur's ...are the head phones. You get a good set of head phones on there and "You know what to listen for In PP" .......that Excalibur can not be beat in it's depth. One reason I do encourage everyone to buy the Nox.... Fresh drops, and micro targets. trashy areas...NOX rules. Leave the old deep targets for the excalibur.

Once that stock battery drops below 15 volts the performance starts to suffer. By 14.1 volts it is flashing red. Not to brag but my battery goes strong, down to 12.8 volts. Then it starts to show signs of performance loss, till the red light starts flashing around 12.6 / 12.4

Thanks, Joe! I figured most would suggest the Nox, but the few people I've met and know who use CTX's swear by them over the Nox... we sure are in a weird time for detectors... or is it a good time for the consumer when there's even an argument for the 800$ minelab machine over the $2500 one?
Hard to be sure - but I really appreciate your input. What possible improvements would it take for you to switch from BBS to a hypothetical newer technology?
Very Happy with what I have, I use them wisely to cover the short coming.
-
I would say the Nox... Performs, and weigh is very good.
Fisher AQ is a Great machine but My opinion, not the do all machine. So it would have to be used in combo with a good VLF machine.
And remember when it comes to machines the user plays a big part. I'm using 20 year old BBS technology and do fairly good. My competition uses mostly Nox's, A few CTX's, rare to see PI's...

Cool treasures but I'm digging the ride! Nothing like a Bad Azz pirate ship!
I have a couple spots here in the bay that I need to check out, never enough time seems.

Got a friend who hunts the Jacksonville area, I think she may have 11 gold rings for the year. Very slow everywhere even for me.

I can't get a threshold.
I've found some stuff without it (4 hunts/12 hours) but I was told I needed it checked out.
Question ..Did it come from the factory like that or after being used? No doubt if there is no threshold, It will cost you deep faints and a good reason to get it fixed. Most of the gold I've dug with the AQ has been nothing more then a murmur in the threshold ..some even in one direction of the swing only. And they were insanely deep target.

As far as the tire weights go maybe fishermen used them???
I'm sure that would have to be the reason on the weights, it's those brass inter tube valve stem covers that show up a lot..... Rare for me to find the wheel (fishing) weights since most of the beach's I do hunt were for swimming only. One thing about hunting the old beach's here. You can tell where someone is hunting by the targets they are showing.. if they show all of them. Crustier the coins the lower in the bay they are hunting.. up north the coins are cleaner. And the same goes for the tire weights.. up the rivers there are higher chances of finding them where most would fish. I have one beach I did good a few years ago...rare to even find a coin or anything else besides... old jewelry.. fishing weights ..and locker tags... the reason... they had bath houses and lockers...and you had to wear there swim outfits. The fishing weights came later years once the place was sold...

There sure seem to be a lot of tire valve caps and tire weights in the bay. Every time I dig one of those I have to scratch my head as to why they are there.
Congrats on the ring!
TVR I swear I average almost one per hunt. And out of the thousands of pictures I have none that has a inter tube in them. I'm going to do a search later tonight and see if I can find one. Had to be some kind of rental thing.

That is one sweet looking piece of Gold! Kool save on the second half!
I've had a few similar with (gold targets) one ear rings and one was a chain bracelet. And just like yours they were in the same area but years later.

Out Tuesday in the chilly waters (44F) of the Chesapeake bay. Just a little over 2 hours using the Excalibur, not a lot of targets dug. Wondered into a area with several deep targets, most were iron but one turned out to be a 9 gram 10k gold class ring. It was a crazy day and wasted about two hours messing with detectors, gloves, two, one mile walks to and from the beach .. and video cam failure. The Gold ring was a surprise and turned a down day to a great day.

Those are a couple of nice rings Joe. Good to hear you were able to get out for awhile! Why did you think the stones in a lot of rings are missing? It seems this happens more with the older rings.
Can be just about anything, quality of the setting, surrounding conditions? I've found them with the stones so beat up then some looked like they were just dropped. And I these are rings that have been in the surf sine the early 1900's to now. The ones in the picture are more then likely dated ......... signet 30/40's then the other I would say the 60's?

Not much information other then he developed a method. Does not share it. And really there is no set way of predicting as far as I am concerned, I've seen patterns but I'm Amazed at how each and every spot can vary. Just my opinion, for a metal detectorist...get out and recon, hunt, experience first hand..do what every it takes... is the only way.
You find a good spot.. Don't share with anyone unless you want the world to know.
